The UK sci-fi series "Utopia" season 1 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow on Netflix. It's an outstanding series and really didn't need a remake by HBO even with David Fincher. The HBO version is now in trouble.

Just checked and found that Utopia is not available on Netflix, at least not yet.

"These Final Hours" ... pretty good Australian pre-Apocalypse story .. not a big budget film, but none the less, worth a watch, IMO ..
http://www.netflix.com/title/80022817

"An Honest Liar" .. a well done documentary on "The Amazing Randy" .. who has always held a strange fascination for me, anyway ..

It was on a lot of the lists posted online. The first I looked at was out of the UK and for UK Netflix but I also found it on US lists. Sometimes they release later in the day. This often has been the case with their "we've just added a title you might like" emails I get because the title wasn't there when I checked earlier in the day. They've got some splainin' to do if it doesn't show up and not just to me a lot of Utopia fans mentioned it was to arrive at Netflix today.

I watched "The Wrecking Crew" last night which is a documentary I've been waiting to see arrive on Netflix. Superb documentary about the group of studio musicians who played on many of the music hits out of Hollywood in the 60s and 70s. I was a studio musician myself so it was of particular interest.

Thanks for that .. I've been waiting for it as well .. it's probably been mentioned, but "Muscle Shoals", "The Last Waltz" and "History of the Eagles" are quite good as well ..

I'll have to get the BD of "The Wrecking Company" because those tracks sound so much better on good speakers even with Netflix's limited DD+ bitrate than they ever did on AM radio.

PC Magazine listing for August Netflix has Utopia for today:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2488654,00.asp

So does CNET:
http://www.cnet.com/news/netpicks-ev...or-august-2015

Vulture:
http://www.vulture.com/2015/07/whats...gust-2015.html

I have the BD. The no region BD (since two were released) is the two disc one.

As of 4:15 PM CDT the Netflix search function still didn't turn Utopia up. Instead, it listed six titles under the heading, "Titles related to Utopia." Don't know why Netflix hasn't added it but its clear they haven't done it yet.

Any UK Netflix members here who can check if they have it? Or maybe check via VPN?

I also have noticed Netflix has a way of hiding new titles as if they fear if it's listed right away everyone will jump on it and cause some problems. That might be true with Utopia.

moreflicks.com says that it's available in the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Netherlands regions.

EDIT: Changing my region reveals that it does not seem to be available in either the UK or Ireland regions, though it is available in the others (season 1 only).

Doing a search I noted that Utopia season 1 was on Netflix UK last year. Someone with a dog in this fight ought to contact Netflix support and ask what's up? I have the BD so wouldn't be watching it on Netflix. After all, every article I read online said that Utopia would be available August 1st.

Maybe the US rights holder has blocked it pending on what happens with the now in limbo Fincher/HBO project.

Just finished Bloodline and thought it was terrific. A bit of a slow start but after about the third episode it really got going. The whole cast was very good but Ben Mendelsohn in particular was outstanding, Emmy-winning performance in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Somewhat doubtful as rights would have been secured in time for Netflix to issue the press releases on August titles. The cast for the HBO version has been released from their contracts.

Agreed - I felt that Mendolsohn's performance was the highlight of the series. Here's a look at his current & upcoming performances:

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One (filming)
2016 Blackbird (filming) - Ray

2015 Guns for Hire (completed) - Kyle Sullivan

2013-2015 Axe Cop (TV Series) - Ben / Sun Thief

2015 Bloodline (TV Series) - Danny Rayburn

2015 Mississippi Grind - Gerry

2015 Slow West - Payne

I just played "Stump Netflix Support" by inquiring what happened to the Utopia release. After giving their research team a search term to find the numerous lists online they told me those were "unofficial" and the only real release lists are on their Twitter and Facebook accounts. But they well let me know if it is going to be released. I also told them that all the other titles listed for August 1st were available yesterday and he checked and confirmed it.

'Creep' starring Mark Duplass. Fairly clever found footage horror. A guy with a terminal disease hires a videographer to make a film of him as memento for his baby son. Creepy stuff ensue.

Not something I'd want to pay to see, but just perfect for Netflix. How's that for ringing endorsement

Along those lines so is "Inner Demons" which was recently added. Might take a bit to get off the ground but most of it was fairly good horror.

I just finished watching the BBC series, Luther, starring Idris Elba in the title role. It is utterly humorless so its frequently wildly over the top plots can be a little hard to take. The show's writers should have taken some lessons from the Strike Back team and leavened its frequent preposterousness with a little humor. Thanks to Elba and the rest of the show's top of the line ensemble cast, it is a lot of fun, its frequent silliness notwithstanding.

From the BBC America website: "Luther will return as a two-part event special and will film in and around London in March and will premiere later next year on BBC AMERICA." That next year is 2015.

Ruth Wilson can be seen in an entirely different role from what she played on "Luther" as a femme fatale on the Showtime series "The Affair". Maybe she's the next "Helen Mirren".

Although The Affair didn't appeal to me, I have the utmost respect for its stars, Ruth Wilson and Dominic West. West was sensational in The Wire as Detective Jimmy McNulty, and Wilson was equally good in Luther, as the charming but homicidal, Alice Morgan.

Luther did get ridiculous, but I forgave it all because Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson were just dynamite.

Watched "What Happened, Miss Simone" last night: http://www.netflix.com/search/Nina%2520Simone . It's a sobering ultimately heart breaking documentary about one of the great singers of the last century, with insightful reflections on race & culture. Highly recommended.

Not for everyone but curious about it's 4 star rating on Netflix watched "Almost Mercy" and in turn gave it a four star. Good little film and there's some great cinematography in it. Not for the violence phobic though.
