I watched the first episode of this and haven't decided if I'm going to watch more of it yet, depends on how full my dance card is.

Speaking of Asia, I had some guests over the weekend and we watched some of the "Street Food" episodes starting with Thai street food. It's a delicious series.

Watched Tijuana a few weeks back. It's a drama about a newspaper set against the backdrop of how dangerous it is to be a journalist in Mexico these days. I thought it was very good and it showed how fragile the truth can be in such an environment.

I took your advice last night and watched the first 3 or 4 .. 30 minute episodes .. it was interesting and quite emotional at times to hear the stories and dedication of these "Street Chefs" ..

Great well done series. I liked each episode's arc. We're getting some good stuff from Mexico these days as well as South America. Much of it in 4K too!

"Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile" .. the Ted Bundy Biopic .. IMO, as good as any production of it's type I've ever watched .. the whole cast just knocks it out of the park ..

I finished "The Society" last night and thought it was very good. But, I think some would find it a little "soapy" though head and shoulders above any CW "soap" and there is a very good sociological theme throughout. A friend thought it could have been boiled down to 6 episodes and probably could have but Netflix for some reason seldom orders just 6 episodes. It's some of the series they license from other sources that were already produced for 6 episodes. I notice they are going for quality over quantity by released "Black Mirror" season 5 in episode batches at a time.

I finished Ep.6 last night and it really does take a hard turn to darkness in that episode. Going to try and finish it tonight.

I do have a bit of an issue with

Since I never watched it when it was running, I've been picking up an episode here and there on "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" and I'm really enjoying it ..

Also, ProSound News latest issue had a nice piece on Netflix Audio ..

Rim of the World (2019) - McG directs.

Late to the party, it's been streaming on Netflix since May. Sort of a mashup of The Goonies, ID4 and Jurassic Park. The movie doesn't take itself very seriously with constant references to other Hollywood films. Kids and teens are the intended audience but I found entertaining enough to watch to the end.

I watched all 6 episodes of "The Chosen One" over the last two nights. It's a Brazilian drama about three doctors who go into the jungle to give villagers the Zika virus vaccine and run into a strange cult. It was excellent and even more interesting according to IMDB was shot in 8K (available on Netflix in 4K).

This sounds similar to a movie years ago with Bill Pullman. I don't remember the title.

Netflix will count pennies for its future big-budget productions

Quote:
Netflix likes to invest heavily in exclusives as the company, much like its competition, needs to carve out the biggest audience for its platform. Going forwards, it will focus more towards a quality over quantity approach for selecting big projects as a few expensive ones in recent years haven't met expectations.

I think it's safe to say most any Studio doing regular productions is going to have a bomb, here and there .. for the most part, at least IMO, NF has done a pretty good job over the years ..

As far as "Gems and Finds" .. I enjoyed ::

"Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese"

and still don't understand how I briefly got sucked into "The Casketeers" ..

I watched the first episode of "Leila" last night. This is a six episode Indian apocalyptic sci-fi series about an oppressive authoritarian society. In some ways India's answer to "The Handmaid's Tale" but not one of their ripoffs. In fact it is very well done and the first episode is directed by "Deepa Mehta" who has made some of award winning movies ("Fire", "Earth", "Water").
