Finished watching "Line of Duty" season 4 last night. Well worth the watch. I didn't even know that Hulu had it (right after it played in the UK) until it came up in the UK list.

The first season of Manhattan is decent. 2nd season, not as decent.

Handmaid's Tale is quite good, not exactly a hidden gem, as it's been advertised a lot, but definitely worth watching.

And last night I was randomly looking for stuff to watch, and re-watched the old BBC Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I hadn't seen that since I was a kid.

Silly and some of the worst special effects imaginable, but I still enjoyed it.

I'm surprised no one mentioned "Casual" or "Difficult People". They're not super obscure, but they're worth a watch, IMHO.

I've been watching "Cardinal", a Canadian made series based on an award winning novel. It's excellent as is the PQ.

I'd have to agree it's very well done crime show. Only 6 episodes. However there are some brutally graphic scenes in some episodes that are not for everyone, my wife wouldn't watch the last 2 episodes. The final episode I found quite emotional and a satisfying ending. Looking forward to new seasons.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
On February 28, 2017, CTV renewed Cardinal for a second and third season both to have six episodes. The second season is to be based on Blunt's third John Cardinal novel, Black Fly Season, while the third is slated to be based on By the Time You Read This and Crime Machine, the fourth and fifth novels in the series.

The Code

Cardinal

Easy binge watching in a day or two, six episodes.

One of the best series I've seen this year is "Mary Kills People" on Hulu. It's a Lifetime channel offering, a Canadian made series starring Caroline Dhavernas ("Hannibal"). She plays a doctor who provides euthanasia for terminally ill patients. PQ is extremely good too.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Update: Watched one episode. Not what I was expecting. Some may like it, just not for me.

Hulu has the original 1956 "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" movie available. I was going to watch it earlier in the year on UltraFlix but it had disappeared before I got to it. UltraFlix made a deal with Paramount in exchange for encoding some of their library to 4K they were able to stream those titles on their site (pay per view). I watched the movie last night on Hulu and it stands up very well after all these year and the PQ was excellent.

Florence Foster Jenkins (2016)

Meryl Streep nominated for Academy Award and Golden Globe. A biopic mixing both comedy and tragedy.

Slow to get going but a rewarding experience by its conclusion. As far I can tell Hulu is the only streamer offering this for free ATM.

Edit: I see it's also on Amazon Prime.

Amazon also has it in 5.1 surround vs HULU's stereo. Amazon and Hulu get the same movies from EPIX (Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM) so check I always Amazon. An interesting film.

I watched the first three episodes of "Top of the Lake: China Girl" and am enjoying it so far. Not for everyone but I think it's better than the first season.

Last week I "binged" "Future Man", a hilarious series created by Seth Rogen and Even Goldberg. You can expect the usual Rogen humor in it.

"Shut Eye" season 2 is now available and the full season is available instead of weekly episodes as it was last year. I watched episode one last night. I enjoyed season 1 of this dark comedy and season 2 is off to a good start.

The Hulu tech blog has come back to life and I'm going to see if I can get them to talk about what streaming codecs they are using like Netflix does on their tech blog.

I watched the first three episodes available of "The Looming Tower" available this week. It's excellent and a good portrayal of the clash between the FBI and CIA in the days before 9/11. Jeff Daniels plays John O'Neil who clashes with a CIA analyst played by Peter Skarsgaard.

I watched the first two episodes of "Hard Sun" last night. Excellent series and had been alerted to it by friends across the pond. It's by the creator of the "Luther" BBC series.

Their Finest (2017) - Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy.

Their Finest is a 2016 British war comedy-drama film based on the 2009 novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans.

The film tells the story of a British Ministry of Information film team making a morale-boosting film about the Dunkirk evacuation during the Battle of Britain and the London Blitz.

First, what attracted me to the movie was the cast who I will watch in just about anything. Second, I have a weakness for period era movies, this takes place in 1940. This movie was released the same year as Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and the two movies dovetail nicely. It's a British dialog driven movie and starts slow so you have to stick with it. The other streaming services have the movie for rent while it's free with your Hulu subscription.

I might check it out - I was never that interested in WW2 but the brilliant Foyle's War changed my mind...
