I'm on a LG OLED smart tv. Setup is in my signature. It weird because the movies play in Dolby Vision, but I'm not getting the Atmos or 5.1 sound.

Maybe it's the app for the LG TV?

Moving this to content streaming, but leaving a redirect in Technical since it's valid either place.

For real? Ugh I regret paying for a subscription. I have an LG TV and an Nvidia shield, neither apparently has Atmos on Disney+. A very big reason I got it was star wars in dv and Atmos.

Yeah the only way right now to get DV and Atmos is with AppleTV or Xbox. Hopefully they will update the LG app.

I’ve been reading rumblings of D+ launch problems. I haven’t turned it on today, but last night was fine. Anyone experiencing these glitches? Or is this a Netflix conspired media ploy? Lol. Would be great if Netflix deployed its own special black ops covert squad to go mouse hunting. Wait. What was I talking about again? Oh yeah, launch problems. Anyone experience them?

So this is an LG issue?

I won't be paying for anything until they get this figured out. 2 channel stereo sound is ridiculous. They might as well not even have the app. Was this announced somewhere?

Hard to say whether its LG or Disney issue. The other LG apps do Atmos.

it's not an LG issue, I have 3 4K Roku TCL tv's and they are only streaming 5.1 DD+

in fact, I don't think at least for tv's and some streaming devices ATMOS has been enabled yet. as all movies are listed as 5.1 and not saying ATMOS, they do say 4K/DV so, I suspect, if they were in fact ATMOS enabled, it would say that on the movie menu. i'm trying to give Disney + the benefit of the doubt. I say give them a few days to sort things out and see what we get.

the DD+ 5.1 sounds great using the DSU.

Angry Atmos not working with Samsung Q90R

I just signed up for Disney Plus today and I can not get Atmos output through the app on my Samsung Q90R (feeding my Denon AVR X-8500H). I do get 4K HDR video but only get DD 5.1 sound output. I don't think its my TV as I do get Atmos sound when playing Netflix streaming content. I sent Disney support an email asking if they can help me but if they are unable to do that, I will cancel this service after the 7 day trial period.

I've never found anything that requires using the DSU to get surround sound to be anything close to the real deal. It just doesn't have the same oomph.

Disney+ 4K content

I was pleasantly surprised when I fired up Disney+ today and the original Star Wars trilogy was in 4K (including Dolby Vision).

Interestingly, the 4K stream of A New Hope looks like it has that "movie setting" effect turned on - i.e. not as much color as my blu-ray version.

I checked out some other 4K content that was not available in 4K before - e.g. Roger Rabbit. Seems the same for those - color seems a bit off.

Does anyone know how Disney is producing the 4K versions of it's movies, like Star Wars? I'm assuming its just some upscale of whatever they used for the blu-ray rather than producing from the original print.

As far as I have read most all of these are “new”. Star Wars even has a new addition that was added before the sale of Lucasfilm. I haven’t experienced what you are on any of the movies (ANH, TFA or RO). TFA thus far probably has the best use of HDR highlights, but everything has had an upgrade (even if slight) in PQ.

Same deal with Samsung's Disney+ app. No DD 5.1, No Atmos, just DD 2.0

I just tried on TCL roku TV R617 and nvidia Shield 2017 which can play the videos in dolby vision and HDR respectively, however am only getting 5.1 sound. The streams are supposed to get dolby atmos also but do not see a setting anywhere to adjust. Is lossy atmos only supported on certain devices?

I have an nvidia Shield and can get 5.1 but not Atmos.
As others have mentioned, you can see under a movie's "Details" tab that most of the newer movies are listed as being available in Atmos.
I think they'll have it fixed soon. The login issues seem to have died down.

I find it strange that it works on the ATV4K, but not on anything else. Didn't Disney test all the other devices? Unless Apple paid for some exclusivity for a certain period of time.

Decent selection of classics so far.

Empire Strikes Back looks like a true 4K derivation to me. Is there anything that proves otherwise?

Im at work so I cant test- but my wife is saying its showing Atmos for A New Hope with our shield hooked up to 4400H- Im not buying a pile of garbage ATV- to use Disney+

She took a pic and says 4K UltraHD-HD-HDR10-HDR-5.1-Vision-Atmos, so not sure if that is just whats available or if its like Netflix where it only allows what is supported by your device

Wouldn't be so bad if the pile of garbage ATV4K was good for Plex- But it cant bitstream. All these damn apps almost force you to get one.
