Disney Plus 4k/hdr streaming

Anyone having problem with 4k? I haven't had much luck with 4k content.

The Roku stick won't play 4k hdr, when I select a 4k show it plays at 1080p. The fire tv will, but had audio glitches.

"The Empire Strikes Back" looked good on my JVC projector, but there were momentary audio dropouts every 5 minutes or so. That was split over 2 days, so it wasn't an anomaly.

Those are the only 2 devices I have used, it is going through a Denon x6400 5.4.4 system.

The Dolby Atmos+Vision on the Apple TV 4K has been outstanding for all Disney+ titles that support it. No issues with any 4K content that I’ve watched through there.

4K HDR looks pretty bad in dark scenes on the mandalorian. They’re really compressing the episode and it shows.
Switch over to content from other services and it’s much better. Especially ATV+

Not sure which Roku stick you have (I assume the SS+ - model 3810/11) or what you have it connected to, but you might want to manually set the Display mode and/or enable/disable Auto Adjust Display Refresh Rate.

If that doesn't work, I have seen a few reports that uninstalling D+/restarting/reinstalling D+ allowed 4K on D+, and at least one report that a factory reset allowed it.

They’re using 768Kbps Dolby Digital Plus based Atmos, just like iTunes and Netflix.

Not sure you should just put this out there. What evidence is there that Disney is heavily compressing Disney + HDR?

The Mandalorian looks great on my OLED LG 65B6. Think internet connection makes the difference with the service. I am using ATT Fiber 1 Gig connection, but use WiFi with my Apple TV, so I'm getting well over 250 Gbps to the device.

To be honest, I am literally shocked at how good and stable both Disney + and AppleTV + look in 4K. SEE on ATV in particular looks very good.

My argument for 4K Blu Ray is starting to die and this makes me kind of sad. Sound is still what keeps me buying discs at this point.

One or two others and myself have posted about this in other threads. The 1.1.4 update on Sony TVs seems to have busted HDR functionality. If you go to the landing page for any show/movie that are SUPPOSED to be in DV, it no longer even shows them to be DV capable. And of course, as a result these programs don't trigger DV. It seems like something about that update is not sending the DV data specifically to Sony TVs. And it sucks. I'm waiting to watch anything, namely Mandalorian, until they fix it.

Right, it's a specific bug in the D+ app. Never said anything about any other apps...

It looks bad. My eyes are the evidence. And you can bring up the bitrate info. I’m also viewing on a LG b6. And using a atv4k and have a fiber connection and wired to the atv4k. No WiFi.

All other content looks great.
Yes, SEE looks fantastic. But you can see the compression on the mandalorian. Especially in episode 2 in the cave.

I agree with you to an extent. When I was actually able to watch stuff in HDR, I feel like I was seeing more banding than in other formats. Including DV streams from Vudu and Netflix as well as from HDR10 4K Blu-Rays. The clarity looks mostly OK, but I guess something about the color bit depth isn't right through D+.

It fixed it for my OLED TV. Now, I get all the video formats (DV/HDR). But, I still needed to go through cold reboot a couple of times.

I'm going to call LG tomorrow and let them know about the issue. I shouldn't have to reboot the TV more than once.

I'll watch Mandalorian Chapter 2 again and look for compression artifacts in the cave scenes. Will report back if I see issues. With your set up, I don't see any weak points.

Most I've had are a couple of crashes. However, Disney keeps updating the app and I trust the company wants to get this right with all of the money invested in making this app work and take a bite out of Netflix.

Watched Iron Man 1 and 2 tonight and both looked pretty good with no video issues, but sound seems to be where the compression affects the most. Both movies were low and caused me to crank the sound much higher than normal. Most people won't care, but I certainly do, as I imagine others here do as well.

I have 3 streaming devices (Roku Premiere 2018 with 4K HDR, Fire TV Stick 4K 2018, XBOX One S). I have a Vizio M-series from 2017 with 4K Dolby Vision. I have a 5.2.2 surround set-up. I have a solid WIFI using two $300+ ASUS routers in a mesh configuration.

Fire TV stick has Dolby Vision (and Disney+ has DV). The XBOX and Roku both have HDR10 (and Disney+ has HDR10 on both).

I've watched Star Wars Ep's 3, 4, 5, and 7 for comparison with the 1080p blu-rays. I've also watched Beauty and the Beast (animated) for comparison with the 1080p blu-ray.

The picture on the Fire TV stick appears clearly superior to both the XBOX and the Roku. I don't think Dolby Vision is the only reason for the better picture, there seems to be different levels of compression by the apps in each device. The XBOX looks a bit better than the Roku, but both have significant banding (the Roku's is definitely worse).

The Fire TV Stick had a better picture than the blu-rays in most respects, and on all the material. The Roku and XBOX were more of a mixed bag (some things better than blu-ray, some things worse).

I was expecting Disney+ to have Dolby Atmos for all 3 devices, but it is only available on Roku. This is a bit frustrating because it also has the worst picture of my 3 devices.

Does anyone have any info about if compression will improve with app updates soon? Will Atmos also be made available with app updates soon?

What other devices support Disney+ in Atmos? I've heard AppleTV supports it, but I'm not really an Apple guy, so I was looking for something else (Chromecast? Shield?).

I am having the same problem too on my Sony Oled Master Series. Very annoying since it was working yesterday. Tried to call or chat with support no luck after spending 90 minutes on the phone on hold.

This maybe off topic but I was able to get in on the D23 special pricing and pre-paid for three years. Verizon says it will give me a year free. I add the promotion to my Disney+ account and it says the promotion was added but I need to call customer service. I have called three times during off peak and have been on hold for over two hours with no answer... What do?

If its the LG app version that's because its not actually an update - its the same version (base+UI layer) thats its been for several days now: 1.1.4erso-1.1a+019 (aka version 1.1.4) - LG store claims its 1.1.5 (which it isnt - no change).

Perhaps its an packaging mistake/error server-side and will be corrected "soon" (like the "coming soon" announced Magic Remote supporting update..)

That's interesting thank you. Yet LG claims it's a problem on Disney's end.

Change your password on Disneyplus.com and on all sites where you used the same password. Don't use the same password on more than one site or service. Ideally, use a password generator to generate a strong password consisting of random characters. I use LastPass.

Lastly, if there is a way to log out of all devices, do so after changing your password so that anyone who wants to continue to use your account--including anyone who stole your old password--has to do so using your new password. On my account page, I don't see a way to log out of all devices. This SHOULD be an option.

ATMOS working on Roku Ultra

Watched the Mandalorian last night, plus tested out a few Marvel movies, and I can confirm that I am receiving a Dolby Atmos stream on my end. SPL was low on the Mandalorian, as is common with recent Disney Blu Rays/UHDs, but turning the Volume up on my receiver took care of that.

In many ways Disney+ is now my favorite format for watching Disney Movies. I have an older 1080P Sony Projector that doesn't support HDR. When playing Disney discs, I have to chose between the 4K/HDR versions with ATMOS or the standard 1080P Blu Ray without ATMOS. I occasionally see some grey-scale compression effects when watching 4K HDR discs remapped to SDR. On some discs it's enough to intrude on my viewing experience. With D+, I get the ATMOS goodness, without the HDR/SDR mapping artifacts (hopefully).

I only signed up last night, so I'm still evaluating audio/video quality but early impressions are encouraging.

I saw both Captain Marvel & Avengers Endgame in the theaters, so I was willing to wait for Black Friday to pick up the 4K disks on sale. Now that I've got my D+, I'm not going to bite unless they're in the $10 to $15 range.

Hackers and "fake" HDR. Trouble at the magic kingdom. The Mouse will not stand for this aggression, man.

Doesnt surprise me at all, Vincent doing the heavy lifting once again. When i first watched it I knew it wasn't bright enough, even when watching with DV. Bring on the discs next year.

Just got the update on the app for my LG OLED TV. The sound is still 2 channel stereo. Update did nothing.

The sound is the only problem I've had. Dolby Vision and 4K look great. Sound is ****ty.

I have a high speed fibre optic connection hard wired to my TV. Streaming of any kind works great. Just need Disney to fix the sound issue now.

LG OLED65B7, LG UP970, Yamaha RXA770, Polk S55's, Polk S35, Polk S15's, KEF Ci160ER's, Dual SVS PB-1000's
