This so-called filmmaker mode would never be needed if they just used better defaults to begin with.
The soap opera effect scourge is caused by the default settings that the TV ships with. One of the articles about this said that 85% of people never change their TV settings out of the box.
And most TVs already have Cinema modes which no one ever uses so what difference would this make. I see they are talking about a dedicated remote button or even automatically changing based on metadata which I guess would help. But again this would not be needed if the TV makers just follow their own advice to begin with.
