Netflix autoplay is now optional

A major change to playback settings has been made. You can now turn off the automatic playing of shows while browsing the Netflix app. As we all know, there were 2 separate autoplays-one for automatic play of the next episode of a series, and the other, the automatic playing of a title when you go to a title's summary page. There are now 2 options listed to turn off the latter.

You must go to your account online (with webbrowser), and under Playback Settings, uncheck them both.

Testing on my Roku, it's worked immediately. The Netflix app on my Samsung HDTV, hasn't yet.

I knew the designers had to have been stung by the overwhelming negative online reaction this got when they introduced the UI redesign, and may have circled wagons in defensive mode, but it really should not have taken this long (years!) to make this optional. It would have done alot to alleviate online spleen venting (from me included) to have simply realized that for many, this wasn't the cool feature they thought it would be.

Post Roku issue

This new function is currently not available on my Roku 3600r and 3810r streaming sticks. Netflix engineering is aware of the issue and is looking into it.
It seems to work fine on my older 3500r.

Thanks. I have to admit that I considered cancelling Netflix because the UI was driving me round the bend.

That option has been on their website for a couple years at least.

The option to turn on/off autoplay for a series was there, but not the option to turn on/off autoplay of previews.

I just learned about this too, and I love the option. I'd also like an option to stop shrinking the end credits, but one thing at a time.

I know it isn't ideal but you can hit the back button just after they shrink the credits and the credits will come back full size. Tested on my AndroidTV and Roku Premiere+

Current system:
Sony 75X900e/Sony STR-DN-1080, CS-3/CS-8/CS5
Sony X800 4K blu-ray player/Dish Hopper3
Roku 4 Premier/Sony PS-4

Good to know. I always figured pressing that button would return to the preview screen. I know I can press Left and OK, but that always feels clumsy.

On my Roku 4, for awhile now it just has some buttons that appear in the lower-right at the end of a program. No more shrinkage. I have all the "auto" stuff turned off.

Yes, for tv shows, the credit crunch has been halted for a few months now. As andyross says, there are now onscreen buttons that give the option to watch credits or advance to the next episode. Selecting no options, the credits play thru to the end. Movies still have the credits pushed aside...it wouldn't be so bad if they'd at least wait for the actor credits to pass by before interrupting.
