@Scott Wilkinson

Is there any word on if these LED screens in the Cinema area actually playing HDR or ever will be?

So far from my research, only the Dolby Cinema gets HDR with Dolby Vision.

All others have been upwards of 4K with DCI-P3 Color Space.

The Samsung Cinema LED Screen is apparently compliant with DCI HDR specs, so they are certainly able to show HDR. However, I don't know if any of the current installations actually do show HDR content. You are correct, only Dolby Cinemas get Dolby Vision-graded movies, so the Cinema LED Screen installations would have to use a different format. And with only five in the world so far, few studios would want to regrade a movie only for them. Therefore, I'd say it's unlikely that any of them actually show HDR content.

Since Wanda owns AMC, and AMC is the exclusive host of Dolby Cinemas in the US, I suppose it's possible that Cinema LED Screens could eventually be installed in Dolby Cinemas. If that were to happen, Dolby Vision would look frickin' awesome on them!

Regarding your last point, virtually all commercial cinemas use the DCI-P3 color gamut, and they are either 2K or 4k, depending on the projector. Neither of these parameters have anything to do with HDR per se.

What DCI HDR spec? I didn't know such a thing existed. I've only ever heard of Dolby Cinema and EclairColor. Oh, and IMAX Laser HDR.

My one worry about LED screens in cinema was how they would over come the screen not being acoustically transparent. Sounds like Harmon has come up with a good solution. Id like to hear it and judge it for myself.

I have the same JBL Pro Cinema surrounds and wall mounts as seen in the picture. Model JBL 9310.

Of course there is Dolby vs Samsung. HD10+, so corporate politics. Yes they do HDR, but there is/was no graded for the display content.

The first Samsung LED screen with 3D has just been installed in Zurich and will open to the public on the 23th of March!

Having watched 2 films on the Samsung system my verdict is that the quality bottleneck has moved from the screen to the room and the source. The room is too reflective for superior contrast (and there is even an exit light next to the screen required by law!) and the sources were 2K instead of 4K with blacks mastered not at 0 nits but above with visible dark gray! Both issues easy to fix at home once the technology trickles down to home cinemas.

Standard grades played a bit brighter. There now is a facility with a 2K CinemaLED/Onyx for grading in LA. There is also Eclair Color.

"Infinity War" used real blacks on this screen, but still only SDR whites.

Is DCI is gunna have to get together and make new standards for LED screens to take full advantage of their peak brightness? Thinking about these screens only calibrated to 14 foot lambert seems like a waste.
