Mid and background objects and people seemed clear and delineated. Foreground, still contained within the window, seemed slightly less prevalent than mid and background, but not completely absent. Aside from the lack of pop-out effects, especially compared TFA, I still see this as a pretty good 3D conversion. It looked better and more consistent to me than something like, say, Assassin's Creed's 3D presentation, which blu-ray.com ranked half a star higher. The only thing Assassin's Creed had more of was pop-out effects.
Right there with you. I felt the picture looked so clear at times that I could reach straight into the tv. I actually turned my glasses brightness from high to medium as well as it was plenty bright (I tend to watch movies at brighter levels). Lack of pop out would be my only complaint if I had to voice one.

Very odd that the reactions and experience's are so different from person to person with this BD.

Well I enjoyed seeing this movie again. It's a fun movie, but not in the same class as the OT and FA. The PQ was excellent. The AQ of the disc was good, but I expected it to be more active. But, I remember it not being extraordinary in the theater either. Best Buy didn't have any 3D copies on the shelf, so I opted for the 2D. From what I remember in the theater, I don't think I'm missing much.

Glad to see this again.

Thanks Ralph Potts for another great review.
I had not seen this in the theater, as last night was my first viewing.
Liked the movie, and enjoyed the 7.1 soundtrack.
I have a question for those that saw this in the theater.
Was this done in ATMOS for the theaters?
Just curious, as I watched thru the credits, ATMOS was displayed, maybe because they has that available at select cinema's?

All these differing comments about the 3D version of this movie got my interest piqued, so I watched it last night in 3D. After watching the 2D version just a few days previously, I will start by saying that I'm going to stick with the 2D version from now on.

I love 3D, but this movie was quite mediocre in that department. Sure there were moments of greatness where the sharpness and clarity were amazing, but it was such a mixed bag. There were also many moments where the image was darker, muddy and in no way felt like 3D at all. There were times that the 3D was nice (good layering in a few scenes) but never did I feel like the three dimensionality (I don't think that's a word but I'm using it) extended really far into the horizon like in some other well done 3D movies. And like others have said, there's no popout in this movie. Not that it's a requirement, but when done in a way that augments the scene rather than being intentionally gimmicky, it is to me more exciting than 3D that extends into the screen. The lack of it is what I think has led to the tapering off of 3D overall, but I digress.

No problem, though. The 2D representation is stellar. It's just a shame that they didn't do justice with the 3D as it could have been so much better.

I think it was, but they want you to double dip when they release it in 4K and Atmos.

I agree with every word you stated. In fact, I just watched the 2D version and it seemed to be another movie; very sharp and much brighter. The 3D was not good.

The 3D version looked great on my display. There weren't eye popping 3D effects but in terms of PQ and color, it was top notch. Of course 3D on my OLED vs my plasma is a different level.

Watched this movie last night and thought the story was excellent.

But...my 5.1 must be out of wack because the surrounds were lacking for sure. At one point I actually got up and put my ear to the rears to make sure they were even on. Lol.

After read all the comments about the 3d, stating that its 3d performance does not meet the expectation though, we cannot find any 3d disc on sale in New Jersey, USA, at BB, Target .... or Amazon. I only found and bought the 2d version from Best Buy yesterday. I agree that the 2d version is quite good. I think the 3d version could only be bought in Region 2, on line at Europe website. But American buyer must have a player that can play this European 3d version though. Since the 3d performance of this movie is not super. Not a big deal of missing the 3d viewing then. Just stick with the 2d accordingly

Can any one tell where to look for the Easter eggs on the disc of this movie. Too lazy to spend time and effort to search for them myself.

Very interesting !!!
I found this blu-ray disk menu's 3d effects depth much better than whole movie 3d effects.because menu 3d displayed at 1:78:1 aspect ratio but the movie which was 2:39:1.
2:39:1 aspect ratio kills the 3d depth little bit

Where to start

I always like the original Star Wars, since the first day I saw it back in 77 and was 14.
Then came episode 5 and 6.

This is why I choose the theme of my theater on my signature.
When episodes 1-3 were announce , I was excited, but left me very disappointed on how they turn out.
Just good for the previous history of where the original came from.
Glad to know the history, but not much re-play value.

This one fell in between and more toward the original series by a large margin.
Much better than the new trilogy, not has good as the original trilogy or the one made previously (episode 7).

I love the characters, and some older ones.
The beginning was slow, but at the second half, it was all Star Wars
Glad I got-it, and will have some replay value in my house.
Next time around, I will crank the volume a lot more.

Not only it a good explanation of where the original story came from, it was done like the original
And also found a new favorite droid.
This dude have an attitude

Ray

Different strokes for different folks.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, although I don't see it as being my "favorite" Star Wars movie.

I definitely agree with you on the CGI Peter Cushing and Leia. They didn't look right to me, either, and the experience almost took me out of the movie.

I will agree that perhaps this franchise has worn out its welcome, but I thought the sound was fine if not the same old shoot em up boring battles.

Decided to give this another shot and got it in from Netflix this week and watched last night and glad I did. I enjoyed the film MUCH more than my original viewing for whatever reason. Who knows, maybe it was my mood first viewing or something else, but I thought it was great last night and will add it to my collection at some point.

A/V was fantastic IMO!

Loved Rogue One in the theater and at home!! 2D Pic quality is excellent across the board.. amazing! The audio , while nice.. is not a reference track by no means IMO... some nice bass, and some nice effects.. but really not much going on surround wise IMO.. to me a nice Reference audio BD was Oblivion, or the first Jack Reacher movie. or Star Trek:Into Darkness... maybe I like a more active surround mix and more balanced bass etc....

I watched it for the first time last night and enjoyed it on my 130" 2D screen. The 7.1 audio was good but I long ago stopped watching movies to evaluate them as demo material.

Haven't done a second viewing yet, but I agree that it often deepens my appreciation of a film as I pick up on foreshadowings during a second viewing - like in Dr. Strange where the evolution of Mordo from his supporter to the series' upcoming villain is telegraphed by the Ancient One's telling Strange that Mordo is too rigid.

Hard to believe it's been 2 years since this came out. Hell, the theater I watched it in has been totally remodeled lol.

So I've noticed it's super annoying that in the first big action scene that you'd blast to show off your system there's this annoying little brat of a kid with the biggest fake cry that drowns out everything. That stupid cry is burned into my mind forever. WAaaahhh wah wah...waaaaah wah wah. Perfect way to ruin a rewatachable movie

Rouge One has been on my to-watch list for a long time, but the kids went to see it in the theater with friends (and didn't like the movie), and my wife isn't a Star Wars fan, but I keep hearing that this is the best Star Wars film that wasn't part of the original trilogy (which I really liked) so I think I'm just going to pick this for my movie night pick next week. Currently I don't have this title in my library, but we do have Disney Plus and I believe it is available there free in 4K. It looks like I can pick the Blu-Ray up for $20, but the 4K UHD is a whopping $42! Has anyone seen all three versions? Would I be disappointed with the Disney Plus 4K version?

I doubt it - the image quality of everything I've watched through Disney Plus has been excellent, as has the sound. I've watched Star Wars IV and V, the whole Mandalorian series, Solo, as well as Ant Man and others. Go for it! And Rogue One is a great film.

Hi, I have seen the Disney+ version and the UHD as well. The Disney version is very good but the UHD is no doubt better. This movie was filmed with a 6.5K Arri Alexa 65 camera and has a 4K DI. The UHD has a noticeably higher bitrate than the stream version. Plus you get the full bandwidth ATMOS track as well. This is one of my favorites in the Star Wars series.

check ebay, you can usually pick up the UHD for ~$20.

If I've never seen a film, and I can audition it at no cost - and the question was posted by someone who has a Disney Plus subscription - I'll do that before buying it on disk.

If I like it, I'll usually buy a copy. But why do a blind buy - and wait a week or two - before watching it online?

For example, I watched Hugo for the first time as part of my Amazon Prime subscription many years ago, so I immediately bought the Blu-ray.

When I upgraded my theater to 3D, the 3D version of Hugo was one of the first things I picked up.

@Mocs123 , Damn, you put way to much thought into watching a movie lol. Just do the disney + and watch it. Free movies are always better anyways, just like free food! Who cares if the wife doesnt like star wars, just go watch it. I would say its a good movie and I would say its the best movie since the original trilogy.

But god, that stupid kid crying, I can hear it my mind clear as I can hear my typing. I think of Rogue One and I instantly hear "WAAAAHHHHH WAH WAH....WAAAAHHHHH WAH WAH". Its like the smell you get when you think of Mcdonalds frys.

I don't even remember a kid crying in this film.

Maybe as a parent, I'm more inured to it - even though my kid is now in her mid-thirties.

I just watched this again (3d version) a few weeks ago before watching the three newest Star Wars films. IMO, Rogue One is without a doubt the best movie of all the newest SW films. I really like the more serious tone of the film and lack of stupid forced humor like the other films have (Last Jedi especially ).
