I'd just bought a copy from BB for $24.99 even I saw the Amazon deal, which I went for despite the long delivery time. I'll be returning the unopened BB disk and be patient.

Prepare to be amazed @andyadler. One of the best upgrades yet of a 4K disc.

Watched this last night and wow, nice audio upgrade in particular vs my old HD-DVD! The audio improvement was noticeable right from the start. Just that extra bit of bass extension made a significant difference. Such a great movie as I hadn't seen it in years. Cant wait for the other two on UHD!

It was inevitable the other 2 get released, but man it does sting a bit that we've just bought the first one and will probably have to spend the same amount to get the other 2 that the whole trilogy 3-pack will end up costing. Joys of being first.

yup, when the first one was released we "knew" the trilogy is inevitable, yet we just couldn't resist. look on the bright side, it's because of our enthusiasm to embrace the first one that convinced WB to release the other 2 (or we can keep telling ourselves that)

Only try to realize the truth... there is no trilogy.

Joking, but I loved the first one and was very dissapointed with the sequels and haven't seen them since the first cinema run. Maybe 4k will tempt me into giving them a second chance

absolutely, 1st one by itself is a solid standalone movie. which is why, we are going to buy the trilogy nevertheless

No doubt. I'm kicking myself now a bit for buying the first when my original plan was just to wait for all three to hit. Oh well, at least I got the first for cheap and can probably sell it for what I paid. Cant wait to hear the highway chase scene, machine voice, etc....with the Atmos mix!

I still like the last one a lot for whatever reason and think the attack on Zion could be an amazing Atmos battle if they do it right, not to mention Neo and Smith's Dragonball style end-battle to close it out.

I agree. I actually love both sequels. I think of these three films as one big film broken up into 3 parts similar to LOTR. The two sequels are a natural and logical progression from the foundation set in the first film IMO. Never understood the hate for the sequels.

Thanks again Ralph for the excellent review and convincing me to upgrade my HD-DVD copy to the UHD release. I just finished watching it and I was blown away by the amazing PQ and the reference quality Dolby Atmos mix. I immediately went to the Blu-ray PQ Thread and gave the following review:

Holy Black levels and shadow detail Batman! Ralph you were spot on, Just finished watching it and I think this is the best 4k transfer yet. Looked fantastic on my C7 OLED. I don't have Atmos yet but the soundtrack was also first rate! I hear they are also remastering the sequels from the original film elements as well so they should also be a treat. Worth every penny paid for it!

I just watched this tonight on 4k disc. I can't comment on the video as I only have a 1080P projector (still looked amazingly sharp), but holy multiple eargasms, Batman! That Atmos track is insane! There are so many instances where there were subtle nuances to the track that added that extra element of immersion as well as bombastic bass (perfectly done, not overcooked). Seriously, Disney, please hire these people who did this mix. It is so awesome! The gunshots, the explosions, the thunder, the rain...So. Well. Done. It is clearly the best viewing of this movie I've ever experienced and I've seen it so many times. It is the most worthy double/triple dip I can recommend. Don't hesitate to pick this one up!

Audio Lag on Matrix 4k HDR

I'm not even sure which forum to post this on but I have three 4K HDR discs and lots of standard HD discs and only the Matrix 4K HDR has a huge lag in the audio such that it is very disturbing. I don't know how many milliseconds but probably 200ms or so.

I tried both Atmos and Dolby 5.1 and they both have the same lag.

The same standard Matrix HD BluRay disc in the disc set has no audio problems.

I cannot compensate for this with my Marantz AVR because it only delays audio with respect to video but the audio is ALREADY delayed. If I add delay it gets worse. Why do all audio delay compensation features in AVR assume the audio is leading the video instead of lagging the video? They should allow you to adjust plus or minus.

My Bluray is a Samsung UltraHD if that helps.

Projector: Epson 5040UB
AVR: Marantz SR7010
Blu-Ray: Samsung UBD-K8500
Streaming: Roku Ultra
DVR: Tivo Roamio
Speakers: 5.1.2 System with five B&W M-1s, Subwoofer: B&W ASW 608

Someone mentioned on another thread that a few years back Disney actually fired their audio engineers and Warner Bros scooped them up. If it's true it would explain an awful lot...

On a positive note, the dynamics here are incredible. Felt like seeing the hallway shootout for the first time. If the sequel mixes are this good I just might have to watch Revolutions for the first time since it came out!

The highway chase in the second film would be incredible if done right. I would pick it up if it's given the same love as this one.

Thank you all for your impressions!
Will post my personal impression, in the future, when time permit, I am over 20 or so, 4K/UHD behind at the moment to watch

Pick this up for sure. Its definitely one of the best UHD releases to date. I'm really hoping they do as good of a job on the 2nd and 3rd movies as this first one got. There are some really good scenes that would look fantastic and sound fantastic with the immersive audio. The movies may get a bad wrap for the plot, but from pure action/popcorn viewing shows, they are all great movies.
