When ever I read the words "This isn't a problem and shouldn't be seen as such" - most likely means I'm going to be disappointed

Nonetheless, this is one of my all time favourite movies, and I've always used the blu-ray has a reference the last decade not for its PQ but more for the amazingly surreal surround sound quality and soundtrack of this movie.

Still ordered! (I despise film grain, but its still going to be the best way to experience this movie)

First of all, I want to say this is a glorious 4K disc. Beautiful. But i did experience a couple of glitches while playing it, the same as described above. I checked the disc and it is pristine. Must be a disc issue. Hopefully they will offer a replacement.

I was going to purchase at my local Best Buy, it was on their website a week or so ago, now it's disappeared, maybe they pulled it off the shelf?

It's back again, there was none at any of my local stores and all the on-line stock was gone too, at only 19.99$ Can. I can see why.
Amazon.ca wanted 30.49.

eBay was the worst, people on eBay need a reality check especially the US sellers.
Many there are offering 30 plus US dollars and another 20 or more US dollars to ship to Canada, they obviously don't want to sell to Canadians.

Lip sync problems and audio skips are disastrous, IMO. It's a REAL shame since rest of presentation is so good.

So order from amazon.ca with $10 more will be fine in audio? Can you confirm it? If so I will order it from amazon. Thx

I just had my sister grab a Best Buy Canada copy from her local store, hopefully I won't have the audio issues described by others. All the stores in my location were sold out according to the website inventory info.
Has anyone tried the 1080 copy to see if the issue also exists with that disk?

I'm saving this for Friday night, but if you're patient, I will certainly let you know.
Ironically my local BestBuy had the same thing for 19.99 now and stamped on the thin plastic wrap was "product of Mexico" just like the one from Amazon, so I believe all the copies are from the same place, but maybe there have been a bad batch and it's hit or miss.

I will be using an HTPC with MadVR.
I know there can be a film on any of these discs in the manufacturing of them and I've had to literately wash them off in Dawn dish washing liquid with a microfibre cloth.

Got mine at Best Buy on Friday and watched it already. No audio issues, no glitches, smooth performance all the way around. Movie is great in 4K btw.

It's the same,
When I click on the link to "buy it again" it now shows $30

...So like I've seen before with Amazon, the lower price is for pre-ordering before the official release date,
and it gets jacked up after the official release date. (especially if in short supply at Best Buy)

It will drop back down to $19 eventually, after demand drops.

Picked it up yesterday and watched it last night. Fantastic! Another great catalogue title! Great movie to boot! I to experienced a few audio drop outs and a slight lip sync issue at one point, one picture drop(split second), but certainly not a deal breaker. Film grain was present, but only once did I notice it as being slightly "heavy", otherwise, didn't notice at all. Very well done, I agree with Ralph's assessment wholeheartedly. Boy, we are getting spoiled with these truly excellent back catalogue releases in the 4K HDR, it's reinvigorating my love of this hobby, and especially the price points they're selling for, what a bargoon!

Thanks @Ralph Potts for another great review. Even though I Pre-ordered early like @PioManiac, I could barely stand the wait. just like the others, am enjoying the upgrade.

About half way through the movie and it looks great.

Quick question how come some of the old movies that are redone in 4k look way better then others? Do they just spend more money upgrading the film???

Sony uses the original camera negatives and scans them at at least 4k. That's why their efforts normally look better than most.

Cliffhanger was different because they do not own original ownership rights to the negatives.

I finally got around to watching my copy last night. The video and audio were top notch but I too experienced a number of audio problems watching the extended version. I had issues where the audio would drop out entirely and I had to pause the film and restart it to get it back. What was really strange was a few instances where the dialog moved from the center channel and front soundstage entirely to my right side surround. I got out of my chair and put my ear up against my front speakers and could still hear background sound and atmospherics up front but all of the spoken word was in the side surround. Really strange! Pausing the film and restarting it fixed it. I was watching on an Xbox One S with a 7.2.4 setup for what it’s worth...

But its also a triple-layer 100GB disc, so layer breaks can also be an issue.

I watched the Extended Version today on a Pansonic 820. Every five to ten minutes I would get a five to eight second pause and then the movie would continue. The freezes I did check were repeatable. This will be going back to Best Buy tomorrow.

Audio and Video were outstanding.

Edit: Best Buy exchanged for store credit. I'd would have loved to get another copy, but after the last one and a lot of comments here, I don't figure my Panny 820 is going to do any better with another one and this "seamless branching" issue.

Picked up a 4K copy of "Overlord" instead. I previoualy enjoyed the Bluray, though certainly not the caliber of movie that "Blackhawk Down" is.

I took my defective copy back to my local Best Buy ignoring that they were reporting out of stock Never trust on line inventories. They replaced all the 4K HDR and other discs and the theatrical version played through perfectly and I enjoyed the movie again

I only got about half way through, can't wait to spin it up again tonight and fire up the JVC and drop the Big 120" screen!

Its as is my LFE channel wasn't working during this movie, sometimes it would kick in and I could definitely hear it but other times it was severely lacking. I also encountered the audio issues others have described. For me it was dialog, I would have to rewind and play again. This happened a couple times. I ended up getting frustrated and switched over to the DTS track. Xbox One X is my player, connected to a Onkyo TX-RZ920.

When the sound would all move to the surround speaker then the LFE would disappear but when everything was playing correctly the LFE was working as expected. I have had glitches before, notably with The Martian Extended Edition, but nothing like this where the dialog would move to a different speaker. Weird...

Audio synching issues seem to be widespread. I purchased this film and haven't watched or opened my copy yet. Should I even bother with it?

All I can say is that my experience was 2 or 3 split second audio drop outs, a minute or two lip sync, and one split second video drop out, blink of an eye with my Sony X800, did not have to pause or restart anything. Like I said earlier, not a deal breaker and worth it for the quality of film, quality of transfer (picture and sound). But, in the end, it's up to you if that kind of stuff bothers you or not.
