In my torrent experience, faster upload than download is never good...this baby should be cranking. Also, there is normally one peer with 100% listed, but I don't see that here, what gives?

we have to get this thing hosted or start sending money for burnt discs.

We all just need to be patient. This is what always happens when there is only one seed at the very start. Nothing is wrong, just wait...

Well, given the size of the swarm, the limiting factor is that only one person has the complete set. Once a few more are able to obtain the entire set and seed it, speeds will increase dramatically.

I am currently seeding, just because some people don't "see" me doesn't mean that I'm not seeding.

That swarm, from what I can see, is 90 people big!

steve, you should take the files to some neighbors on an external drive. Tell them you will exchange some viewing time in the theater for some of their bandwidth...

I turned the initial seed checkbox off, that didn't seem to help much with redundancy, then again, if multiple people prioritized parts 50 through 55 for example, then maybe that caused it.

While we are all waiting, I thought I might try to learn something else. I have DSL with listed down speeds up to 1.3 M/sec. When I speed test with a clear computer, I usually get 1.2 or so and up speeds tend to be 200+kb/sec.

When I down load files, however, it usually only only lists the down loads around 100-120kb/s or so. I joined last night and was about 14.5 % behind those with the most and I actually lost ground over night and am now about 15.5% behind. I would have expected to catch up.

I rebooted my computer before starting and don't have anything else running (except allthe stuff that starts with Windows) and have checked my task manager to make sure there are no large draws on my CPU (only 1-3% in use). My current down speeds vary between 80-110 kbs and my current up speeds are 20-35 kbs with no limits set using Utorrent.

I am patient and have no problems waiting the 5 days or so for this file (thanks again Steve!!!) but I wondered if anyone had any ideas for me long term.

Man, that took longer than I thought it would...

Might I suggest that we let the cows get well out of the barn and into the field before we draw a lot of attention to the distribution of copyrighted material. Once there are numerous seeders it would be very hard to shut this endeavor down.

Quick thought on speeding things up. As the download is made up of individual 500Mb rar files what if Steve uploaded a few of them to a download site and PM'd those willing and then we switch those files in our Torrent download...... would that help in any way?

Wasn't there a recent ruling that supported the removal of copyright protection schemes and editing of CLIPS of digital media. IIRC the ruling fell just shy of ripping discs completely and streaming, but it would allow what Scubasteve has done with no problems.

Here's a linky if anyone is interested.

The man has done enough. Remember, it is 4 days of grueling work... no wait.. you just have to leave your computer on... Be patient... You are a quarter of the way there and all you have had to do is stare at a screen.

Suggestion... turn your monitor off.

For Scubasteve to receive compensation for his efforts in producing and distribution is a different ball game.

Just started this morning and I'm over 5% already. Maxed out at 1.3MB/s.

I had to go back 4 pages to find the torrent link. reposting here for those coming late to the party:

Agreed.

On a completely unrelated note, has anyone been to a ball game lately where the scalpers sell you a 10 cent baseball card for $100, and you get a football ticket for free? Ah, never mind. Just one of those random thoughts I have

IMHO that was a mistake unless your upload has very high BW (like several MB/s). The initial seed option really does work. It won't send out parts that are already in the swarm. However, if people disconnect from the swarm that had parts that no one else had yet, you will send out those parts again (because they're not in the swarm). That's likely why your number were slightly off.

However, it's your PC, your BW, and your project, so you're free to do as you please.

My only thought on speed is breaking this up. If instead of all the files in a single torrent, if we have it broken out a little more, I think people would get more parts faster. in turn speeding everything up. Instead now, we all sit at the same % minus those late to the party.

Sure we just have to be patient and wait, but I think there are definitely ways to make it a little faster. But if that is not an option, i will just minimize things and check back in a few days...

Breaking it out wouldn't speed anything up. Like stated before, the limitation we're facing right now is Steve's upload. If it were 1 torrent with 85 parts or 85 torrents with 1 part each, he's still going to hit the same upload wall. The only way around that is to get another seed online which means Steve would physically have to give the material to another person and they would need to join the torrent.

Breaking it up won't make it any faster. We're limited because we have a single seed at this point. He can only push out the data so fast, and there is a lot of data. It just takes time.

By the weekend, we should have multiple seeders, and things will pick up then.

Edit: What Leifashley27 said.

I've thought about that (and have the FTP space to do so) but while Steve uploads to the site it's going to diminish the upload of the torrent significantly. It's like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Based on some rough numbers it would take him 83 minutes to upload one part and that's saying that the torrent gets turn off to 0 during that time. Upload is upload.

We can try it if Steve wants to but I think if anything we'll be shaving a few hours off the total upload.

In a week we're going to think all of this was all really silly.

Yeah this is exactly right. The only thing that would speed it up is an additional seed. Giving the material to another person would be the quickest. The 2nd quickest is giving 100% of his upload to an individual person and letting the 2nd person use his bandwidth to seed to all others. The way it is now is giving say 10 people a split of his 100mb/s upload so getting that second seed will take much longer.

However, I don't know how much time it would actually save in the long run for all other users. It may just come out in the wash either way.

Have patience guys. The data is pretty big and it takes time to upload even on the torrents. The first seed always takes more time.
