Well that's a bummer. Image Shack changes their policy and will not longer send images to forums/blogs etc, unless you become a paid member.

All my images for this thread are now gone.

Was wondering why your images all disappeared. Maybe best thing is to upload them to AVS.

If you copy the image link address from a post and paste it in your address bar the image is accessible, so at least the images are not lost -- you'll just need to edit your posts if you want to update the image urls from a new host. Thank you Rich for sharing your inspiring screen set up, I have a variable aspect project of my own that is kicking off soon.

Ugh...all my images on imageshack are now gone. I didn't know they were getting rid of free user account photos at the end of January. All is lost.

I think I have a back up of the images somewhere and if I can find it someday I'll try to add them to this thread again. This sux.

How disappointing all your pictures disappeared! I was reading about your curtains and track system in another thread and I really wanted to see some pictures. Is there any way you could post some pictures of your track/curtains? Much appreciated.

I just wanted to second Boxozaxu's post. I, too, am trying to install wall-to-wall ceiling curtains that can be pulled back during the day, and completely closed for movie time. What curtains and tracks did you use? Any way you can upload some new photos? Thank you!!

By the way, I tried to PM Rich, but I'm too new... I'm not allowed yet!

Yes it really sucks to have the pictures gone. When I have time enough I'll try to repost at least some of them. Though I'm not sure which image hosting service to use. Any free ones left...anyone?

As for the curtain tracks, they were supplied by my interior designer. They aren't anything special though, just black curtain tracks. We used the "snap on" system for how the curtain attaches to the track, which I believe gives the curtains a thinner profile or something.

Thank you. Do you remember which curtains (brand/store) you went with? Are they velvet on both sides?

Start a design thread, and ask for input.

This is very close to my main interests so I have a lot of suggestions and ideas for you, but don`t want to clog up Rich`s thread.

Rich, I expect I have those photos somewhere on my hard drive. When I find them, I`ll pm you.

Just an update:

It's now been 10 years since I started this thread! *Keanu Reeves "Whoa!"*

Thankfully my projector lift is still doing it's job smoothly. I've recently had a glitch in my 4 way masking that I have to fix. It's possible I may have to get a new motor for the side curtains, but it's probably just a re-set thing. Happened once before.

If there is one disadvantage to the design it comes from one of the advantages: the fact my amps and source components are in a room down the hall from my home theater room. The advantage is a very nice clean look for the home theater room (and low heat/no additional light pollution). The disadvantage is that it's delayed my moving in to HDR content. My JVC RS600 projector is "4K/HDR capable" so ready to go. However it's the HDR/4K cabling that's the issue. It's been tough to get a long cable that works over a 50 foot length! So I'm still in the 1080p world.

However, this room has been providing untold amounts of pleasure for the last 10 years. It does double duty as my 2 channel stereo listening room as well (I've dived headfirst into building a large vinyl collection and loving it). And I used it just about every day, either for listening to music, reading a book, or watching movies/TV/sports. And, to my surprise given this age of everyone watching content on computers, my home theater room remains a very popular destination with friends and family. People come over all the time to watch movies with me and absolutely love it. And my place continues to be the gathering place for UFC fights. The place was packed again this weekend.

All in all still one of the most satisfying projects I've ever completed!

Sort of crazy that all that time has passed. I hear you with the distance issue. I know there are a few compromises, but have you looked at HDBaseT? I know most cannot get the full 60 Hz with 4:4:4 color, but you can get 4K at 30 Hz with 4:4:4 color coding, or 4K at 60 Hz with 4:2:0 color coding. Not cheap.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I actually have a local AV install company that say they can get me set up for 4K/HDR, but I have to wait for more funds to roll in before I go ahead. Meanwhile, I'm still amazed by the clarity and depth of my getting-old-in-the-tooth JVC RS600. Given the direction JVC is now going in terms of compromises to achieve native 4K resolution, it looks like the RS600 will remain the on/off contrast champ for the near future.

Just had to post being that I just now threw away my 42” ED Panny Plasma that has been in my children’s’ rooms over the past couple decades now lol. Literally still sitting in the dumpster we rented in our driveway. That thing is heavy, hot, has burn-in, a little dim, but still going strong up until it got rained on in the trash bin.

Your opening paragraph brought back some great memories of being so excited to have a true flat screen.

Ha!

Our Panny ED plasma is still going strong! Almost 20 years later, no burn in! It is a bit dimmer though.

(Though most TV viewing is now done on an LED in the basement for the kids). Given all the hand wringing about burn in back in the day, especially in the earliest models, it's amazing how this thing held up.

Yea it was one great set for sure. It never had burn-in when i used it for gaming and the main living room set. Once it was moved to the kids rooms it stayed on channels with logos non stop 24/7 never turned off. It was still very watchable when we finally took it out but the heat it put off was pretty strong lol.
