I have been using my speakers without an automated EQ for the last year. I can't tell a big difference switching between XT32 on and off anyway. That could change with this latest swap out for the height speakers. But, the front stage is the most important by far and that hasn't changed.
I do use an EQ on my subwoofers with the DBX DriveRack Pro PA2. Michael did that calibration before the KC HT crawl last year. He also did a few bands worth of mild manual EQ for a few speakers.
I wonder how much different/better my system could sound with Dirac or Trinnov? I need that tech to trickle down and I would love more bed channels as well (not wides). I want Dolby to activate another set of bed channels for home theater use so I can do 9.x.4.
So I just used my cheap meter and matched what my center channel was putting out. Then manually measured for distance. I should probably run XT32 (after taking a picture of my manual settings) and see where it puts them too. The Radio Shack meter isn't as accurate as my iTest mic so I guess I should use it instead. The last few movies I have felt like I almost needed to turn the height channels down a hair but it is very immersive so I will need to play with the levels.
