It seems our situations are alike. I am now in the process of moving from Hawaii to my new location in Gig Harbor Wa. I'm going to miss my Hawaii theater greatly and the house I'm going to doesn't have a perfect space for a new theater. I need to decide if I'm going to make another house addition (this time only a theater) or somehow use the irregular space in the basement. It will be fun to see what you end up with in that new and beautiful home....

On a side note and a curiosity of mine, when you sold the house with the theater, what was the response of those looking to buy? I hear theaters end up not moving the needle overall (sadly). I hope that was not true in your case.

You will like Gig Harbor, WA.................my wife's Aunt/Uncle live in Canterwood Estate which has an exceptional golf course and very good security.......you'll hate the tolls though.

We decided not to sell our home since there was no need.......................we plan to use current home as a get-a-way and like yourself, worried the money invested will not be returned. Our problem lies with value of construction was more than double surrounding homes.......comps were not favorable. Our hope is prices in Portland are going through the roof and will trickle down south to our area. We can only hope.................

As far as what others thought about home....................realtors were stunned and have never seen anything like it. Theater room has been talk of the town for years and everyone who has watched a movie raves about room being better than the movie theaters. Oh well, high end finishes are not the norm in our small town. Suggested listing prices from visiting realtors were +/- 120K in variance............decided to wait it out. Not too many locals can afford home.................

Ever since AVS started requiring changing password, I've had nothing but issues............can't believe it's been one year since I last visited!!!!



Been spending a lot of time fishing in Alaska, and have not moved there yet. Son and his wife have to commit to staying in Alaska long term before I starting building and of course, create/begin the "Resurrection" build............TMcG's idea!!!!!!


Still in same house, same theater..........wife's mother died two years ago and created a situation my wife wasn't ready to leave..............besides, lot of business issues to deal with.



I'll try to visit more and get back to participation.....................

Good to hear you're doing well. My condolences to your family. The passing of a loved one is never easy.

I was thinking of your other family recently too. We've had a lot of spring melt recently and many homes in the area have had water in the basement, mine included. Hope everything is working out there.

The fishing looks incredible, but honestly I can't believe you'd give up a year of AVS for being out in the "real world?" Hmpf, please consider your AVS Build Card on suspension until further notice.

As you might recall, my daughter's home is on a hill so run off goes directly into that flood control pond bisecting that park in New Hope......... has not been problematic. She had two pumps installed so no issues....................yet.

Speaking of natural disasters, my son's home in Eagle River, AK had extensive damage from recent earthquake. Was in Alaska two weeks ago fixing 60+ Sheetrock cracks................some needed replacement but patched for the time being. Took two weeks to fix all the issues.............glad no structural damage, just cosmetic.



Speaking of suspensions....................the password fiasco has kept me from regularly logging on AVS. What a pain!!!! I just gave up rather than continually requesting a new password.

That seems a little surprising given your propensity for cutting down trees. I still love those alder cabinets and trim though. It never gets old looking at it.

Strange almost how some homes had extensive damage while others had virtually none (like ours thankfully). We had a couple of small drywall cracks
and things knocked off of shelves. Good to hear he had no structural damage. It has a lot to do with the soil the house sits on and of course proximity to the epicenter. Your son was about 3 times closer than we were out in Wasilla.

Yeah............still in Oregon for the time being.

Funny, the "in" home decor for new builds are all white cabinets, counter tops, and the barn/farm look. Scouted the local home tours recently............all the homes looked the same!!! Those darn Texans in Waco have started a craze I don't believe in. Give me warm, nature colors.............nothing beats real wood, real stone and earth tones!
