Like many others, I have used these forums for my research over the years and used many ideas from the theater build threads and extensive equipment reviews. Now that I finally am ready to finish my own basement and build a small theater, I consider this more like a tiny tribute to all the super awesome builds in AVS forums.

A special shootout to gurus like BIG, Spaceman, StockMonkey2000, Damelon, CJ, LandShark1 and Vikgrao for their build threads.

The space I have is about 23' x 12'6'' but it will probably be just 22' x 11'6'' after framing and DD + GG. For WAF, we are finishing the entire basement so will probably post updates on the entire build here. Here is the draft layout.

Room:
22' x 12' x 9'

Sound Proofing:

Front wall - DD + GG on back wall
Side and back walls -DD + GG on interior walls with furring channel, DD + GG on exterior walls with 2'' air gap between frames and concrete
Ceiling - DD + GG with clips and clips/furring channel

Acoustic Treatment:
Front wall - Linacoustic and 2" OC703 bass traps on sides
Side and back walls - Linacoustic or 2" OC703 DIY panels

Audio:
7.2 system
In Wall Speakers + In Wall Subs TBD

Video:
JVC RS48
2.35:1 125" or 16:9 135'' AT Screen

Equipment:
OPPO BDP 103 player
Verizon FIOS HD DVR
Wii U
XBOX 360
8 GB Synology NAS with MED1000X3D
Denon AVR-X4000

Here are some pictures of the unfinished space:

Looks good anubis! Don't know if you are expecting to be able to fit 4 seats across, or if that is just for seat representation in your Visio diagram. My width is 12' 5" and 4 across would be very tight. Doable yes, but audio may suffer a bit on the end seats as they will most likely be very close to the walls. Also, what is along the back wall in your diagram?

Looking forward to following along!

I was hoping to find some 4 seater configuration with a loveseat in middle that is about 110'' so that we can fit them even after leaving 2'6'' for steps out of about 11'6'' we have in the back area, we do have about 6'' more width in the front of room. We are planning to do a bench on the back wall with about 22'' deep seat, just needed little more spacing even if a little uncomfortable compared to the recliners to fit more people as we often hang out with ton of friends.

Three rows of seats are challenging for our tiny theater but we want to give it a shot. Bar style seat was voted out for the back row as we don't want kids spilling food and drinks on the carpet.

I know Roman has his Fusion Jive collection that is 109" in a |o|oo|o| configuration. That may be a good option for you. It will be difficult for 3 rows in that length of room. Mine is similar length as well, and just couldn't figure out a way to make it work with recliners. How deep is your riser going to be? With recliners and a bench behind, it will need to be pretty deep to accommodate both. My riser is 6'10" deep, and there is no way I could get another row behind recliners. If you are going with maximum seating, perhaps actual theater seats would be an option. Smaller footprint, and 3 rows would be easier since they wouldn't be recliners.

It's really going to come down to how you will use the space the most. I initially wanted as much seating as possible, but realized that 90% of our usage would be just our 4 person family, with occasional guests. So we decided to go with 2 rows of 3 recliners (maybe 4 in the back row.)

I am planning to save a couple of feet by using in-Walls instead of floor standing speakers. My riser will be about 11' deep which does make the first row come up quite a bit but still the eye distance for first row can still be about 10' which I am told is alright for 125'' diagonal screen for an immersive feel cool.gif

The build is in process, been too busy to post any updates. Here are some pictures of framing being done and then sound-proofing using IB1 clips and Green Glue on Double 5/8'' Drywall boards.

Locked on JVC RS4810 and Denon X4000. Not sure if I should add a Emotive XPA-3 or XPA-5 confused.gif

The color scheme for walls, panels, carpet and fabric seems like a tough one. Anybody know of good place to get carpet and acoustic fabric swatches?

Finalized the bar cabinets design, decided on a small bar sink in the corner and got rid of the idea of keeping a dishwasher in bar, hoping this decision won't bite in future.

Here is the cabinet design picture:

I too think 4 recliner seats for <12' wide room is really pushing even with a center love seat. You are leaving a little over a foot wide for the aisles. If you really want 4 front seats, how about 2 love seats config? That would save you another 5-6" of space.

As for fabric sample, you can order directly from GOM's web site as many as you want. I think I've ordered every single color from them in both FR701 & anchorage collection. And I gave them all to Big after mine is done.

Subscribe to the build. wink.gif

Landshark1, thanks for the tips. You are right about two loveseats |00|00| config, that will be just 103'' wide compared to 107'' for |0|00|0| configuration, will check with Roman on that.

I ordered fabric samples on GOM site per your suggestion. Also found a better price for Kane Carpet we liked at a local store at an online place.

BTW Congrats for getting featured at the Electronic House showcase smile.gif

Any updates? Curious what speakers you went with?

anubis05 08-17-2013 11:43 AM

Sorry for the long delay, was really held up with a little too many projects. I went with Episode 950 HT series In-Wall speakers with dual In-Wall Subs from Episode as well. See below how my screen wall looks with all the Linacoustic and speakers.

I went with the JVC DLA-RS4810 projector:

And my rack has the Denon X4000 paired with Emotiva XPA-3 to begin with:

Final pictures to follow soon.

Cool! How did you finally decide on your speakers? I know you were back and forth. They look awesome and I'm sure they sound just as great.
