I've been working on designing and building diffusers, and finally getting around to building a few 18" subwoofers for my old theater to go along with my Maelstrom X 21". I've been curious if I should get a better microphone than the one that MiniDPS sells.
The UMIK-1 will get you about 95% of the way, but for 99% of users that's all they'll ever use.

There was some extra things I was after:

1. "free-field" calibration file for close mic (~2ft) measurements
2. No calibration file needed for 0-10khz measurements at the LP
3. Greater SPL headroom

Of course, if you want extra, you have to pay extra.

Thanks - yeah, I was looking at pricing...it's looking like a $1000 entrance fee to get up to that 99% level.

Since I'm not pushing much over 125db (I think 125db - it's been years since I've measured the HT), I'll probably just stick with my cheap Mic and live vicariously though you.

I'm so glad to see more and more theater builders using room treatment, even if it is just mostly absorbers. I've been proselytizing room treatment (specifically diffusers) for about 15 years now, and it's *finally* catching on! LOL

This would definitely do it the trick:

BUT, you'd also need a mic preamp lol

Something as cheap as the Focusrite Scarlett Solo would be enough though:

Also - I know it's a bit late, but I've not been on the forums much, if at all for the past couple years...

I think @Iron Maiden (sorry, I don't know how to tag someone in this newer version of AVS Forum) was looking for these videos - he mentioned one track on a Demo Disc.

Available on Blu-Ray for $18 and change though.

Recorded here in Chicago - it looks like they have some nice sound treatment on the stage they used.

I'm not familiar with this show - but Iron Maiden's post about it, with the video piqued my interest.

I'm also going through your post and others looking for recent suggestions of videos for bass test/demos.

I've been away for a long while...so threads like yours really get me pumped!

One of my favorite blu-ray concerts:

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...arewell+tour+1

Great separation of all the instruments and vocals.

And of course, if you just wanna blast the SPL this also has great SQ:

https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...+never+blu-ray

Is this the type of stuff you're looking for you do you want more "bass head" type music?

No, we're on the same page - I already have those two you listed - thanks!

And thanks for the link to that more affordable measurement Mic. I already have a phantom power, as well as a small mixing board if with phantom. I used to use REW back in the day before USB mics were even a thing - but I've forgotten it all.

Now I'm off to find that thread that has movies with bass in them to look for some other demo material.
