Movies only = Cinemascope

Any decent amount of Gaming and or TV = 16:9

I'm the same, about 50:50.
I personally haven't bothered, i just get black bars.

Some kind of automated masking would be cool, but just another thing that needs to be adjusted and set each time you change source.

Also with cinema scope i can sneak the centre under the screen but if I go 16:9 i will have to go AT and have just the center or all the LCR behind the screen. I will have two 24" subs lying on their side under the screen. Im really confused how Im going to do the front wall. I wanted a clean look but its going to be hard to do that.

Go 16:9 and put all your speakers behind the screen. It will be awesome!

Here's another perspective. The size of your 16:9 screen should be about 1/3 as high as your seating distance. This won't change for a 16:9 or a 21:9 (cinemascope screen). This is the beauty of a constant image height screen - go with as big as you should for a 16:9 screen based on the 1/3 rule, then if you have the width in your room, go with a cinemascope screen. Your eyes have great peripheral vision and you can sit just as close to a cinemascope screen as you can a 16:9. Regardless of what you choose, I can tell you that from an audio perspective, nothing changed my setup more than being able to put identical speakers behind the screen so that the tweeters were all at ear height at the main listening position (go with acoustically transparent in either case, IMHO). To me and many others that own this type of screen, it just feels like an epic movie like LOTR, for example, should be BIGGER than an episode of The Simpsons, don't you think? Also, everyone owns a 16:9 TV, so just on novelty alone, having a super widescreen is very, very cool - I'd bet no one else you know will have one...

I realize this is unsolicited advice, but this is a new build for you and I think it's good to hear other people's perspectives on things. Another note...if you are a gamer there is nothing like being able to (PC) game on a cinemascope screen - being able to set a custom resolution and have just that much extra ~33% width for shooting games or racing games is just ridiculous.

Gear: The Brains: Anthem MRX 720. The Brawn: Outlaw 7700. The Fun: Custom PC w/ Logitech 27 & reverse mount pedals, Nintendo Switch, Playstation PS4 Pro. The Visuals: Oppo 203, Darbee Darblet, Optoma HD3300, Panamorph UH480, DIY 138" Curved screen using Semour Centerstage XD AT material. The Audio: 7.1.4: LCR: Tannoy DC12i. Sides: Tannoy IW63DC. Rears: Tannoy DC8i. Ceilings: Tannoy CMS 603/601 DCBM. Subs: 3X Micro Marty and 1X Full Marty.

Kef ci3160RL-THX in custom made boxes. They should have been installed in the wall like they were design for but now I can place them anywhere. They sound great and now after around 100 hours they are very impressive. I also just finished making one ci5160RL-THX and been testing it the last couple days and found it made a big difference having it as the center channel. I just need to make two more now.

The room is ready for painting but still deciding if I put a bulkhead in or not. It would be better to do it now before the carpet but dont really have the time to do it at the moment.

Looking good. PJ looks great too.
I might have a play of BF tonight after seeing that.
I have a Sony 4K PJ and when it first was released the lag was so bad on COD it was unplayable but they did release an update soon after that reduced the lag considerably so at least I can play it on my 125" Stewart cinemascope screen with not much issues.

I turned the sub 90 degrees amd what a difference it made. Heaps smoother and louder. Tested with Super 8 OMG that train derailing scene! Robocop was where I noticed the steps became in sync. Before i moved the sub thry sounded slighty thin and out of time with the footsteps but after the move they were spot on.

I spray painted some vents matte black and the front wall and ceiling got finished in the new black paint.
Sparky is in now wiring up. We are doing a gpo mounted in the roof space with a bullnose wall plate through the ceiling. This will allow me to feed the hdmi through it too and makes for a cleaner install. So glad i didnt waste too much money on sound proofing because my room is like swiss cheese at the moment.
