I started fitting out my rack. Getting it from the garage to the wall openning for the rack was a breeze once I stripped it all down and cleaned it up. My friend thought I was lucky to get it in where we did but I had been planning this rack since day dot. It slotted in under doorways, and closests and its final home by only millimeters lol.
I put the amps up the top of the rack. The Rotel 1585 was 36kg alone!

Im just about to start the Front Wall build. Just finished the speakers today. Chipping away at slowly everyday. Cant believe how many hours I've put into the room so far from pre wire to now etc. Its fun though 😀 There is a back log of videos I will upload on all this to my youtube channel sometime soon.

Nice !

Have you decided on how you're going to blacken the speaker baffles ?

Cheers,

I know what you mean about hiding your speakers. That's why I didn't put my Meridian DSP speakers behind my Stewart screen. It saved me about $1600 not getting the perf screen material from them anyway.

I got the kef Ci Speakers cheap and they have caused me nothing but headaches as ive tried to accommodate them into the room. Ive learnt a lot but also spent a lot more money in the long run and also my time. lf I went a more conventional speaker route or even another brand speaker that does a similar job them im sure i would have had an easier time. But maybe it will be worth it when I hear the sound being acurately reproduced onscreen via the LCR speakers.
Also If I had a hand I wouldnt be winging as much. Little things like holding a tape measure parallel in mid air over 4m span and trying to get an accurate reading is frustrating lol.
The other thing with AT screens is generally you loose some of your room length.

Yeah if I did put mine behind the screen then yes I would lose nearly 1m due to the depth of the DSP's and the recommended space between speaker & screen but then I would lose the space for a 2nd row of seating. A win for me anyway.

Starting to look really good,

Any reason the centre speaker is orientated vertically and not horizontally?

To keep it all the sound stage uniform, plus I love the look.

Got busy today and completed the screen and mounted it. OMG it was hard to get that fabric taught but got 99 percent good before I fatigued and gave up. No doubt one of my kids will put a jam or peanut butter hand print on it before I even get to watch a movie lol. It sounds good even though I haven't treated the back wall etc and with the quick testing I already love the sound coming through the screen as if the characters have the sound coming out of there mouths. Im happy but the screen killed me for today!

Looks good.

You might want to build the wall out a little so that you have a true baffle wall. Ie. put some rubber matting or something to make the speaker faces flush with the wall. That will mean a 6db boost as well as no sbir issues.

You could even turn that space into a bass trap. Frame and fill the gaps with insulation and then plaster. Cut some holes in the 4 corners to let the bass in and your set.

I know that sounds like a lot of work but 6db boost, no speaker boundary interference response issues and a possibly pretty effective bass trap seems like a no brainer to me.

I will look into it all a bit more. The plan I had was to fill in around the speakers with rockwall then cover with black fabric. Then on the exterior around the screen use velvet wraped core flute velcroed on around. The screen killed me. So been sitting back and relaxing. Just watched lucy and thought it was great. I really have no issue chasing dB as I hit -10dB im pretty happy there. I have the Atmos demo disc and the sound is amazing. Only thing is my surrounds might be 300mm to high on the walls and I need so rear surrounds to finish it off. With the surrounds only slightly behind mlp I notice they should either be further back towards the rear wall or get the rears installed. Also what I noticed is there really isnt any gaps between the audio in the atmos and surrounds. Like maybe some AT will help but I also know that too much can be detrimental to the spatial sound stage. At the moment I must admit it sounds pretty good and just as good as my local cinema and I still havent hooked up the Sub lol or made and installed the second sub. Yeah no sub amd its still great! Im also glad I didnt try and sound proof too much. I have too many ways for it to escape and I think what I had done is a good balance on money spent and what was achieved. I feel I got my moneys worth. More new video will be coming soon now im a little more settled into the new house. Cheers for following my journey and helping lads!

Just finished watching Lucy in UHD tonight. Sorry the photos were a little high on the iso. BTW the new 135" cinemascope screen from Oz Theater screens is fantastic! So happy I spent the money on it! One of them and either the Epson or JVC projectors are a great combo!

I used this stuff for my curtains and am intending to use it to wrap my screen and for my home brew masking system. It's good because it really seems to absorb light. I think velvet has a tendency to look a bit too shiny.

I've not see painted cloth speaker grilles before.

Are you happy they're not adversely affecting the sound ?

I suggest a test with / without them to be sure.

Cheers,

I was doing the blow test in spotlight the other day and had my daughter with me. A lady came up to help me amd I was telling her what I was after and next thing I looked behind me and my daughter was blow and dribbling all over the rolls of fabrics lol.
