Edmonton AB area, linacoustic OUCH! Alternatives?

I'd be interested in hearing from others in the Edmonton, Alberta area regarding your sound absorption material of choice. I've called all of the local drywall and HVAC resellers that I could find in the area and quotes on Linacoustic are really stinging; 1" $1.30/square foot, 2" $2.81 square foot is the best that I could find. I'll start the call process over again looking for Owens but am curious what others have gravitated to. Roxul might be a good alternative but the only stuff I've been able to source is something they're calling Roxul R6 Comfortboard IS, not the Roxul 60 that is commonly referenced here.

So, I was able to find a source that can bring the Lineacoustic in for 70 cents per foot. Still a little pricy but I can live with that. Being that the material comes in a roll I wonder how stiff can it be? Are folks using this for reflection treatments as well as behind the screen? Seems it would be difficult to mane panels out of it if it isn't as rigid as say the Owens product.

I pay about 40 cents a foot and buy it direct from an insulation supply house. Probably the same kind of place your HVAC companies get theirs.

it is not really all that stiff and for panels in needs to be surrounded by frames or on wall furring.

That helps Big (I feel like I should know your name by now) thank you. I haven't figured out my approach just yet but this will help.

As far as price goes that's closer than it may seem; Canadian conversion is not very forgiving.

I used an OC product called Rotary Liner. Don't recall the pricing, but I remember it was cheaper than Linacoustic in my area.

I don't know if you are still looking but I'm going to be using this stuff for my panels. You can get OC703 from a company in Spruce Grove/Stony plain @ $107 for 6 panels of 2". I can bet you that for twice the price you will not hear a difference. Since the Roxul R6 is 1.5" think I'm going to double it up and make 3" panels on the sides.

One thing that I might do and post measurements hear is buy 4 full packs of this stuff and stack them in my 2 front corners and see how much it helps bass. I can return the unopened packs after I do the test.

Thanks for that. I did find some Lineacoustic at a local distributor but will be looking for 703 for my treatments when I get there. Mind if I PM you for the name of the company?

Two layers on the stage wall, lined return duct and made duct mufflers with it.

Thx. I've contacted them. I'm following your thread with interest. Nice to have a local person and see how they are doing it.
