He must have arms like tree trunks after all of that digging--still recovering I guess.

I was all excited to see a new post again, but I should have looked to see who posted it...Ladeback...Not that I don't like your posts, I was just hoping that his project hasn't finished him off.

Chirpie's thread gets more action than many, and he's not even here. Hopefully, soon, right Chirpie???

Yikes and double yikes. Sorry everyone. That was a serious episode of going AWOL on my part. It’s been a fairly tumultuous rollercoaster for the past few months or so, and productivity took a nice hit as a result. Everything from grandparents kicking the bucket, parents falling down stairs and getting concussions and strokes, parents also getting into car wrecks, and for fun we’ll throw losing employment into the mix as well. But hey, it’s life, and it’s gonna keep going on in spite of ya.

So first off, I loved all the Chuck Norris spoof jokes, thank you kindly for those. Second off, let’s actually talk about some meager progress, shall we?

So yes, everything has been dug out and hauled away at last. If I carry anything in a five gallon bucket again anytime soon they’re gonna have to commit me to a mental institution.

You can see the drainage tile running the perimeter.
Got the tamper out and mushed the gravel into the dirt.

And of course, it’s always more fun when the wife says, ‘you know what, all the animals are digging up my garden, time to build a fence.’

(Grrrrrr. Side quest time.)

Every single post required me to to use my jackhammer. Every. Single. One. I tried to rent a giant tow behind auger and it just bounced off the ground. There’s so much rock in my yard.

But got it all done.

Snuck in a Japanese style gate while I was at it. Wife has plans for more stuff like that in the back yard in the future.

But anyway. Side quest over.

The nice thing about really tough soil is you can dig really straight and accurate.

Then of course, lay down your vapor barrier and install your rebar. I used 4 and 6” rebar ties with a whirlybird tool. I also used rebar chairs to suspend my rebar in the air to get revenge on the builder for not pulling up the rebar during their pour.

You can see I made a goofy little makeshift rebar bender jig of sorts. It got me through the process anyway. I ended up using rebar anchor epoxy after drilling holes. I know a lot of guys just drill a half inch hole for number 4 rebar and hammer it in, but this is technically stronger.

Also note all rebar overlaps at least 2’ which is roughly what you want for making sure all rebar connects as a complete structure inside the concrete pour.

Also... (continued on next post)

Here you can see the conduit sticking out in the top middle of the photo. That will be for the three outlets for the front row.

As for the sump pit, that’s one thing I didn’t get right in my initial plan. I don’t have a hole in the wall to drain it out to. Sooooo. Rented a drill and fixed that.

I will say, it made me that much more grateful that I don’t have to drill the other holes that are already there.

Discharge goes out of the house and then back down a little and slopes down into a pop-up drain.

Got a few other things to share, but need some sleep. Take care out there everyone!

So much accomplished, it actually makes the Chuck Norris jokes seem quaint You’re a legend around these parts.

It's cool that the neighbors let you to dispose of your dirt (via 5 gallon buckets) in their yard!

The update has been a long time in coming, but what an update! Very sorry to hear about your personal losses. The amount of work you've put into getting that extra percent out of your theater is remarkable, though. Just an amazing and inspirational effort.
