So, my advice is don’t mix sealed with ported. And don’t give up output with sealed over ported. You have a large space. I’d keep 2 Cyclopes in the rear if they fit well, and improve the sub situation behind your screen. Have you looked at the hst sale? 4 of those on your front wall would be excellent ported. But you’d need a bigger amp. Think clone 20k at a min.
I’m telling ya, these gtgs make us all want to improve our setups. I really want to see your space soon. I have ‘other’ ideas for your room too. Hahaha
I was hoping you'd weigh in! :-)

The issue is I only have 7' between my two columns in the center of the wall, so I can't fit two cyclops back there. And I can't put them in the corners standing up because of their depth and making it so the two outer seats wouldn't be able to recline. That's why sealed seemed to look like a decent option given my limitations of space.

Basically in the corner I need a design that would be no bigger than 32"w X 24"h X 20"d. And in between the columns I could build something that is no more than 7'w X 24"h X 20"d.

Front of house space...yeah, I could get a bit more creative. Behind my screen it would have to be no more than about 22" deep, but width and height are only dictated by placement of my LCRs.

Yes, you guys and your systems just inspired me to greatness! :-)

Sounds like you have enough room in the rear for some nice custom designed ported cabs. Those dimensions are almost identical to the jtr cap. 1400. A little tight for huge ported cabs, but being rear subs nearfield, not as much would be expected of them. A couple UM’s or similar back there in the corners would be great. Like my nearfields are small, but because they are nearfield I don’t have issues with port chuffing or anything with a 2” slot port. I guess I’m saying that’s what I would do. You could even keep the Cyclopes all where they are currently. You have 3 behind your screen, one in the rear, centered?

Yes, the one in the back is centered on the wall. So putting something in each of the corners is what I was thinking and those sealed enclosures just looked like decent options. But I wasn't sure about mixing sealed and ported and whether that would cause issues. Do you have any links to a ported enclosure that would fit in those spaces? Again, the issue is when my seats recline back, the head rests are about 16" from the wall. So I want to keep any subs tucked under the seats when they're reclined. The cyclops at 24" high does so nicely.

I really like what you are thinking and as Jared said these GTGs really mess with our set ups wanting more which is not a bad thing at all.

I am thinking Mike could design a cabinet like his nearfield with 18s in them but use one in each cabinet instead of his design of 3 15s.

Not exactly like this but sloped so your chairs can go back.

I just sent Mike a note. I'll be anxious to see what he says. That's a great idea, although it would probably be tall enough to cause issues with my posters. I'm really hoping I can come up with something that will work in the rear corners. I could pull the posters down in the corners if need be, so I'd have more room, as long as it was only about 16-18" deep once it gets above 24" from the floor. It's a bit tricky, but I know there is something that would work well. We'll see what he says. Sent a note to John too.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. I'm hoping I can put two more 18s in myself, in which case I'd need the iNuke. But if nothing materializes, I'll keep you in mind.

Do you have a BOSS? I would say it has become an essential feature in a dedicated theater. Projector, screen, disc player, sound processor, amplification, speakers, subwoofers, BOSS.

Thanks! I'll say as an MSU fan, I'll root for OSU unless they are playing MSU due our equal disdain for the University of Michigan! :-)

I don't have a BOSS yet Steve, but that's on the planning table as I type! I have read through much of the thread about it, and I definitely want to put that in place for my seating. The big thing I have to look further at is how much room I have on the underside of my seats. Going to do some preliminary work on things this weekend. If all looks good, I'm going to start working on it soon! With all I hear about how a BOSS design adds an unbelievable amount of immersion, I definitely would love to put one in place. Stay tuned!

And here I thought that we had something in common....

I guess not.

Don't get me wrong, it has been a struggle the last few years, especially when I live a couple of states away now and my kids go to other large schools, to stay excited about Michigan when my team isn't playing to the level that their ranking shows that they should.

LOL . Yeah, I personally don't know many Spartan fans that root for UofM at any point.
But as I told you earlier on Nick, you're still always welcome, even as a Wolverine fan, after all of your help! Glad you were willing to help a Spartan. ;-) Hope all is well my friend!

@eng-399 designed me two new boxes. Mike's the man!!

I'm going to move my 4 cyclops boxes to the front and put these in the rear for a total of 6 18s, 2-460HO's and 4-UM18s. See what you and Jared are doing to me.

I also ordered a single sub and isolator pads to build a BOSS platform for one of my seats to try one out. If I like it, which I can't imagine I won't, I'll build 6 more for the rest of the seats. So with 6 18s, BOSS platforms and Aura transducers in the seats, I think I'm going to be pretty happy!

Let the building begin....again.

I'm anxious to try the BOSS design. I have to build one per chair given the shape of my rows, and desire to keep them individual. But I gather that will still work great. Looking forward to getting it all in place.

Worked on the two new sub boxes and BOSS platforms today. Hoping to be painting tomorrow!!

I purchased a Jasper Jig and borrowed a friend's router. This makes cutting circles so easy! Definitely recommend it.

Boxes and baffles coming along.

Just testing the baffle opening. Love the look of the UM18s. I have to go flush mounted due to the width of the baffle. If I had tried to recess mount it, which I wanted to do, it would have left about 1/2" on the top and bottom and I didn't want to risk breaking the MDF.

Got all of the BOSS platforms cut.

I tested the fit on one chair, just to make sure the driver fit. It's tight, but it fits! I can't wait to try these things out.

More to come tomorrow!

Good days work! I went back and enlarged the hole in the top baffles so I can recess the drivers. All of the BOSS platforms and two sub boxes are painted and ready to go tomorrow! Just letting the paint fully dry tonight. Can't wait to fire it all up!!
