No clue on that one. Went into it blind so the XD is all I've seen.

Big day today. Besides everything going on with the eclipse, after many months of waiting my acoustic panels finally arrived! Got several of them up already, but man the 4X8 ceiling one was a royal pain. Need to find some hinges tomorrow for the one that will cover the AV rack, then I'll get started on all the others in the back of the room.

And to be completely honest, I was unsure how much of a difference (if much) I was expecting to hear, but only having the panels near the main wall up was a huge difference in clarity. Even the missus, who was dead set on not being able to tell, was blown away because she actually could tell. Pretty stoked and hoping to be able to finish this up in time for some Guardians of the Galaxy 2 tomorrow night!

After waiting several more weeks due to hurricane weather for the last of the acoustic panels to arrive, I've finally received and put them up.

And lastly, the room is done (for the time being) Now I wait another 3 weeks for the infamous calibrator ChadB to make his visit, but other than that, I think it's time for me to catch up on all the new blockbuster movies!

Post ChadB visit with some HDR Guardians of the Galaxy 2 = heavenly

That is one SERIOUS anamorphic lens. I'm a bit jelly.

What was your total timeframe for completion? Did you bother with any soundproofing? How's the room's comfort over the course of several hours when its loaded with people?

Very nice. Worth the wait I'm sure. Look at all the upgrade money you saved through procrastination.

Yea, I like the lens a lot. Didn't really know what I was looking for at first, just knew I needed one for what I wanted to do and that it should help add brightness to UHD's by cutting out the black bars. Guess my timing was perfect since I caught it in a presale phase before it had even be released as it was less than half of the MSRP they list it for now.

Took about a half year on and off with the construction and getting the basics set up, but have added and upgraded little things over the year since then. Think i'm finally at the point I can finally relax more as there's nothing really important left on my todo list now.

I used Roxul insulation throughout, covered it with some sound barrier tarp, and used the thicker quietrock type dry-wall all over. Looking at other theaters here it looks like I missed some steps and techniques to make it better, but it does do what I need it to. Contains most of it so I can watch at any time of night, so no angry neighbors or disturbing the family upstairs.

Room is good with 5-8 people on average. Keeps a nice theatre chill in there. It's during the few winter months that it can get too warm in there with the heater on in a more crowded room. Have added an escape vent since last winter though so I'm hoping it's not as bad this year.

Seems I've caught a little case of upgradeitus. The SVS Memorial Day sale was too tempting to pass up, so I added some more boom to the room with the SVS PB16-Ultra subwoofer. With only one day out of the box on factory settings so far, yes, I can say that this is what I was missing. Highly enjoying these new tingly sensations I'm feeling in my room. (though it seems that the sconce rattle I had to fix with the last sub has found a new shake again with this one. lol)

Also now that I've mainly been "done" and enjoying it for a while now, I've finally started cleaning up the equipment closet a lot. Actually rewired everything much nicer now that I'm not in such a rush, added in the little things like banana plugs and wire ties to keep it neat, painted the rooms, and even put up some sweet logo signs to give it a theatrical feel.

Working on one more final (lol) upgrade at the moment as well, but I'll throw it all in my next update post whenever it's finished.

And I've finally done it. Running extra wire is never fun especially when the room was already "finished", but after hearing so much about these I finally had to give them a go in my room. The Crowson Shadow Actuator transducers. I've only had them in for a short while so far, but so far they're awesome and just amazing for that added extra immersion in movies like Saving Private Ryan.

Bolted plywood onto the bottom of the couch as recommended by other owners of these as it's supposed to make the energy transfer more balanced, and I have 4 SA units on this couch that are placed where the red markings are in the picture. Looking forward to what they can do with the new Pacific Rim tonight.

I think I'm really done for the moment now. (Long enough to re-do the laundry room at least) But feel free to comment with any other personal recommendations to further complete the room. Thanks!

Think the front row is around 11' now so close enough. The seat transducers help add a lot of extra immersion to that big image too.

---

Have had a couple calibrations over the years from Chad with the Oppo 203, but now currently on the list for the new Panasonic9000 to see if that can give that little extra tone mapping boost that the Oppo couldn't. Still loving the room though and use it religiously on a weekly basis.
