Painted screen support.
Installed the Mitsubishi Zen AC and prepped the cable channel for the projector.

Today we finished the screen frame, fastened it to the front wall. Need to paint two extra added 45 degrees beams tomorrow.

More work was done in the technical room.
Starting to get that done now. Finishing the wall lights and all plastic channels on Wednesday.
Going to have a total of 10m wall length full with storage furniture for movies and music in there.
Mounted the new WiFi access point and prepped for in wall light switch on the outside of the technical room etc.
Ordered my 2 new 14cm BeQuiet case fans (1000 rpm, 15.5 db) for the projector cabinet.

Although I wanted the cinema to be operational for Christmas, I gotta admit it is still around 2 months away realistically.
We'll see. Possibly getting the old screen hung and stuff connected for some movies in there during christmas.

Hehe exactly the same scenario for me. Things just always seem to take longer time than expected with this home theater stuff

Don't you have some fancy images for us of that screen frame? You can't just throw these updates at us without any pictures to support it. It's like waving candy in front of a child, my friend!

Very much so! One quickly finds out how good the human vision is compared to (most) digital cameras in a dark environment. I can highly recommend getting a tripod for taking long exposure shots. You can find them very cheap (as low as $20-30) and they will get the job done. With a home theater as nice as yours is shaping up to be it would almost be a shame not to have some great (and sharp) pictures of it

Fiddling with the light level wasn't very successful though, sorry about a little too much light in the pictures.
But, atleast you see the wood structure. Didn't notice the light level until I was back upstairs, oh well...

Thanks, my friend!

Looks like a very interesting screen wall design. I don’t think I’ve seen anything similar before. Will you make a false wall for the entire front wall or is it “only” this screen frame? In other words, are you planning on hidding your beautiful speakers or will they be up for display?

Speakers to each side of the frame, screen will be just in front of them, so no light reflection towards the front speakers. Yeah they will only be visible when the room is lit.
I did not want a perforated screen - I see the openings and moire, that's just me.
Ordered the 165" today. 16:9.

We now have LED spots on the walls of the technical room. Makes it much easier to browse my physical media ^^.
CAT 6 is being finalized in the new rack.
Buying more 15mm plywood tomorrow for the projector hush box build.
Dangerously close to Xmas now...

Fabricating ceiling goodies atm. Needed to enlarge the boards for the combined anti-glare/diffuser/absorber above the screen, fiddly work.
Finishing the prepaint tomorrow, then onto covering with fabric.
Damn freight schedules now around christmas makes everything come slower - aka screen etc. Oh well...
Good thing: was lucky in finding the steel channels above the ceiling drywall plates - the ceiling structures hangs nicely, firmly attached.

I hate what the holidays does to my schedule for the HT...
No work this past week but my 2 trusty helpers are back on Tuesday morning.
Will focus on getting the ceiling done asap.
Stuff like columns, diffusors etc. can be done with only one pair of hands.

Do you have any pictures of the process you did for the ceiling structure. What material was used (what type of absorption material, what fabric and how wide and long are each). I’m working on a design for my ceiling with the front atmos and lighting built into it and your looks like what I’m trying to do.

The picture above is a big frame, going 2.7m out along the ceiling from the screen. 3.7m wide.
Painted flat black and then covered with GIK Acoustics (UK) Camira 138 black fabric.
We then fabricated 3 internal frames, 10cm high with one midpoint support in the middle of each frame.
Covered the outside bottom in same fabric, filled them with 90mm Rockwool and nailed another type of more inexpensive fabric over the top to seal in the Rockwool.
Then mounted each of the 3 frames into the main perimeter one.
They are now awaiting RGB LED strips along right and left side internally.
Also there will be a 12cm distance 45 degree (towards the screen) mounted wood planks covered in same fabric going from right to left.
This whole unit will function as a combination of absorber (Rockwool), diffusor (45 degree slats) and most importantly a light absorber of the reflected light out along the ceiling from the screen.

The screen will "hang" in the air, giving NO reflections to either ceiling or walls.

I have 4 ceiling lights, 2 in front of the frame shining on the screen, and 2 towards the listeners, you see one mounted in the picture and cables for the other.
There will be another 4 spread out over the 2 rows of chairs.

After this, towards the chairs there will be an area of only absorbers before the proj hush box more or less over the first row. Parallel with this and backwards there will be only diffusors.

Continuing the ceiling works. Front big combi-piece absorber/diffusor/de-reflector is finished.
Hung 4 GIK 10cm absorber panels.
Started on the plastic channels for the speaker cables and also mounted the RGB LEDs along the ceiling walls.
Continuing the process monday with platform for hush box etc.
There will be Focal 6.5" coaxial Atmos speakers, 4 of them, angled 45 degrees towards the head of the MLP.

Exactly same size screen as me. You'll end up loving it 16:9 material is quite dramatic on a screen that size

Yep, it is built to be "floating" in the air. The special ceiling design over it will cancel all ceiling reflections that you usually experience with the reflected light from the screen.
So, it will be only the picture hanging in the dark, no visible support etc.
Nice huh?

Spent all day today finishing most of the ventilated hush box. Soon finished, applying linacoustic internally on it now.
Need to hook up the cables from the two fans to the output on the projector and test the cabling with some video.
Looks good though! Can't wait to get this finished!

Looking great, awesome build. Are you doing 2 rows of 6? I believe that should fit with the width of your room. How much head room do you have from the riser to the ceiling? If I didn't have a column in my theater area I want to build I could probably go this big on a 16:9 screen. Almost gives you that IMAX feel.

3+5. Normally we are just 1-3 persons in there, second row is for guests.
I think the distance from the riser floor to the ceiling is approx. 212 cm.

Damn...spent the last two days constructing the cabinets for the 4 Atmos speakers...placing the speaker element at 45 degrees pointing to my head but also 45 degrees across one of the 4 corners of the boxes made for some exciting challenges let me tell ya!!!!! It added up when my somewhat cheap miter saw doesn't follow its own degree scale for the second angle ^^.
Never doing that again thats for sure.
'Kay, they are now drying from the first paint layer. Painting no. 2 tomorrow and will install them at the end of tomorrows workday.

Tomorrow: 12 pcs. 60x60cm QR Dude diffusors - A LOT of cutting.
Pictures to follow.

Small stuff today. Installed an IR extender out of the back of the hush box due to the fact that my old projector does not have an external IR connector...nice...
Oh well, got it up and running, cleaned up some cables in the hush box while I was at it.
Testing some color on the back half of the walls, I think I need to adjust it some more (darker). Will check again tomorrow.
Started looking at the main rack. Much of the cables were preordered and way too long. So at one point I need to measure, cut and resolder new plugs but I am gonna wait for now.

Pictures of the 4 Atmos boxes, ready for installing on tuesday, need more hands.
