The frames on.by the door are masterful. My turn to steal some cues from you for my build. (I've known I wanted to customize the inside of the door to make it blend with the walls, but wasn't quite sure how I'd go about it - no brain waves spent on it since I haven't built my first fabric frame yet. Your way looks like it'll turn out great!)

What will be on the section of wall on the hinge side of the door/above the stage? And will you be able to attach a matching baseboard to the door without interfering with the stage?

Feels like you're getting really close to the finish line!

The section to the right will be a long black panel from stage to soffit and the same on the other side. I made the other side panels right before I started the door this past weekend. They are ready to be wrapped in fabric. The last panel by the hinges will be made after I wrap the door panels. This will allow me to get the spacing just right with the door swing.

As for the baseboard it will match the rest of the room. Since the baseboard sticks out a little more than the panels it will just pass under the lip of the stage. Talk about careful planning. At the same time I’m doing that I need to install my automatic door sweep at the bottom.

Once I have these finished I will move to the screen and masking system. Then install screen wash lights. Stuff soffits with insulation. Take measurements and play with acustic material behind wall panels.

Worked on wrapping the door frames. Got 5 done today before going to inlaws for thanksgiving. These panels are a pain because the hinge side and the door edge is visible. Wanted to make them look good. Need to finish the top wall one so I can move onto the black wall panel. Need to wrap the opposite wall panels as those are easy. Hope to start the screen wall by weekends end. Also got the extended door strike and modified the handle to work with the thicker door.

Closeup of door knob area.

Looking good.

Ok more updates.

Got all the door and wall panels done. Made and installed the baseboards too. Cut out the door bottom and installed the automatic door sweep. Just have to wrap the one side screen wall panel then turn to doing the screen wall. I’m trying to make my screen swing out to the right to give access behind the screen. Have some ideas but will see while building.

Baseboard by door jamb.

Installing the door sweep.

DMD acoustical fabric. Grey and Black. Very easy to work with.

https://www.acoustimac.com/dmd-acoustic-fabric

Right now they are empty accept 2 I did a test. I will treat behind the panels as needed while taking measurements. My panels are all friction fitted except the door with French cleats. I did the panels this way so I can easily adjust treatment. I gave 1” duct liner and 1” poly treatment.

Finished the last black panel right if door. Now screen wall time.

Small update.

Removed all the speakers on the stage to do the acoustic foam. Also glued down a 1/8 rubber foam on the stage surface to prevent the speakers and subs from moving around. Plus it helps isolate them from the stage too. Had to add a ir emitter to the rack monitor to work with irule. Now I have all my activities working correctly in irule. Worked on my lighting scenes too like welcome, previews, during movie, intermission (bathroom break, lol), movie over. Now I need to start the screen and electronic masking to wrap this up and paint the back of the rack black.

You can see the black mat in this photo. The cutout is access to the intake air exchange.

Rained here all day Saturday so got nothing done but Sunday was perfect. Picked up some wood to start the screen frame. Did not take any photos of building seeing it’s pretty straight forward for the frame. My plan is to have it on hinges like a door. The hinges will be right next to the right speaker. This will allow the screen to swing out to the right and about a foot or so to swing backwards into the stage cavity. Next on the list is to start the electric masking system. The screen right now is sitting on a couple of temporary 2x4’s.

Test pattern.

Sound test screen.

Finally got around to figuring out the hinges for the screen. Next I need to start the masking.

Clamping the hinges in place then removing frame to drill. I used wood nuts and bolts this way I can easily unbolt the screen if need be. I’m going to assemble the masking after the screen is hung so it will modular.

Such a great space mate. I love what you have done with the constraints of the room. I plan on doing my room quite similar to yours.

I was just looking at your first post and the changes between them are insane. Looks like you have put a fair bit of effort fixing your whole place.

Keep up the great job champ!!

Thank you for the comments. I look back at all the photos of the house and it’s hard to believe what I have built, feels really good.

Temp screen up to watch a few movies and hear sound. This past weekend I finished installing all the acoustical treatments behind the fabric panels. Between the combination of duct liner and polyester batting it sounds really good so far. All I did was level match speakers to 75db and subs to 85db, 10db hot. So far have watched lots of short demo discs. Last night my son and I watched Fury. Talk about being blown away, no pun intended. Seen the movie plenty of times but in the theater it just draws you into the movie. Then watched oblivion for about 1 hour.

Been playing around with the picture setting on the Epson and fine tuning. I think I got it pretty good dialed in. Between the 4K enhancement on or off has been a battle. Sometime with 1080p I like it off but last night I got the settings really good with it on. I think the spandex screen is making the 4K e shift softer. But doing a bunch of setting it looks pretty sharp now.

Definitely keep us updated on the sharpness issue. I thought spandex was supposed to be good for a sharp picture because of the fine weave.

Not much has been happening as other things are taking time from the theater. But the other night I picked up 8 body pillows from Walmart to stuff the front and left soffits with. I wanted a material that can be removed easily without the mess or itch.
