HT of the Month: The Force Theater

Patrick Williams dreamed of a home theater that combined first-rate audio and video performance with his passion for Star Wars—and The Force Theater was born.

It's beautiful. The force is with him.

He may want to double check the plans and make sure there are no hidden vulnerabilities with the thermal exhaust ports just to be safe.

I think that Patrick is a 007 fan too. I wonder what a James Bond theater would look like. Theater seats full of martinis and a bar at the back of the theater perhaps.

@jedi1982 , I have watched your build from the beginning and you have an awesome theater. It's cool that your theater is the first one for 2018 in Home Theater of the Month.

Congratulations Patrick on the journey, and Shawn / Jeff for their expertise.

Now Patrick, where is you comic book display?

I bought all these first hand back in the day, these among much more

I can hear Vader's respirator and a light saber powering up as I look at the pictures. Love the detail, enjoyed watching the build. Congrats!

I'm working on a martini themed home theater / bar / game room. I can't promise it will be this nice though.

HAH! Sadly enough, I don't have any. I do, however, have some Star Wars blankets I also had some action figures never opened. That is until my 6 year old found the box containing them during move in day and proceeded to show me with great happiness how cool they were...out of the package

Totally understand, well you can buy the mother of all Star Wars Lego Millennium Falcon, build it with your 6 year old, and hang it in your HT.

I'm not typically a fan of "themed theaters" but this one is an exception. While it is most certainly of Star Wars decent, it is also a bit more "subtle" - and I LOVE the lighting!! Great job - and I am sure it sound terrific as well.

I love it! I dont want to talk trash with this. I’m just wondering about this. I feel like I would personally rather spend money on the equipment rather than the decor. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Star Wars fan and I would still dream of this setup, but my poor butt has some of the same equipment in a humble living room. Maybe upgrades are eminent. I know I couldn’t do as much for a while after I bought my couches.

I ask in part because I wonder if I should have gone the route of an awesome room with modest equipment followed by equipment upgrades when I was able to.

Love the home theater of the month. Please keep them coming!

I’m very curious about the audio calibration you went through. Can you describe what was done and how it changed the sound? I’m not sure how much control one has over frequently responses and that type of thing in a setup such as yours.
I see you have the 10x10 dsp

I'll take a stab at it, however, @SierraMikeBravo would be better suited to go into the technicalities of it as he's the one who did it

Prior to the calibration, we played a demo track in 2.0 with only the L&R at reference volumes and I thought it sounded great. Shawn ran some audio frequency graphs on it to show that there were definitely had peaks and valleys. Once the miniDSP was turned on and after Shawn was through calibrating with his 4 mics in the room, we played the same demo track as before. During the track, he turned off the calibrated settings and turned them back on and could hear a definite audible difference. The best way I can describe it is just sounding much more precise and eliminating "waste".

Once this was done, he did the same for the Center channel and the dual subs. The rest of the room didn't need calibrating based on how it was built and room treatments which helps positively impact the frequencies, timing, etc.
