They are a similar price but much smaller foot print and in my opinion ideal for use with a movie poster.
Welp, the mini PC arrived last night. I haven't bought that specific brand before, I usually buy the $199 Azulletech boxes at work for digital signage as they have HDMI and RGB out for dual monitor, support 4k playback with HD500 graphics, have 4GB RAM and include Win 10 Pro to join the domain. The one I grabbed was $119, but it still had the extra RGB monitor port as well as the HDMI (which many of these cheaper small form factors choose to drop).
Long story short, the build quality is ****, I mean I don't expect much from these budget boxes, but simply moving this thing a little while turned on caused it to lose power, so yep total garbage.
Also I hadn't realized that the 50" screen didn't actually have an RGB port (DOH!!) just HDMI and component. I tried using an RGB-to-Component cable that I had lying around but that didn't work.
All that being said, it was time to go back to the drawing board on the PC itself, something I missed on the compute sticks and these cheaper mini PCs is they are running older Z8350 chipsets and only 2GB of DDR3 which is a bit tight.
$188 shipped (via Amazon Prime) scores me an ECS LIVA Z N3350 Intel Mini PC 4K UHD Apollo Lake Dual LAN, DDR4 beast!!
It has an Apollo Lake N3350 SOC with Intel HD505 Graphics (Much more powerful than the Z8350 graphics chipset seen on compute sticks, especially as the HD5xx series has hardware HVEC decoding for 4k at 60fps should I choose to get fancy later on).
Also very interesting that it has some things I've never seen on a mini platform...
- HDMI and
Mini Display Port!!
- 4GB of 1600mhz DDR4 (instead of the usual DDR3)
- 3x USB 3.0 Ports
- M.2 Expansion port (USB C or thunderbolt)
- AC Wifi (Instead of the usual BGN at this form factor)
- DUAL Gig LAN - WTF???
Then the usual 32GB of flash storage Bluetooth 4.1 and SD Card slot, lets see how that one works out.
