Hardwood started yesterday and man this guy is a true perfectionist, you are always nervous not being home to see it go in but not anymore. He has been doing this for a while and you can tell. Here’s a few pics of his progress so far.

He is by himself and he covers the hardwood as he goes which is awesome

Here’s a couple more pictures of the progress of the flooring. Dusted off the QSCs and put them in there final resting place, forgot to take pictures of them. They should have the platform and fireplace room finished today if not more which is amazing. The workmanship that this gentleman has is incredible, the reason I say this is he actually aligned the boards from the main floor to the first step platform to the top platform, most companies would of just installed the flooring not even thinking of that.

Thanks me too, you have no idea how excited I am right now. Just need some nice weather so I can start building subs. Also waiting on the crossovers for Erich before I can go pick up my huge order of speakers in Niagara Falls NY.

Debating whether to get direct ship to my house for the 21s from Parts Express or just get them sent to pick up spot in NY

I was taken back when I got home and walked into the basement and saw that the flooring except the stairs will be done today. The gentleman has a helper today and wow they are fast. Something about European craftsmanship and work ethic that is mined boggling.

Wow 3 days hardwood done, stairs and the staining of the bullnose to be completed by a different crew next week, so pleased.

So I have some bad news the basement may come to a screeching halt, our furnace and air conditioner have to be replaced and that is a $9k not planned expense. But on the up side I have all the speakers and wood to build my subs

Well it was a full day of measuring, cutting and pocket holes and then finally a non glued prototype put up just to see how it will work before painting and gluing the frames together. You are probably wondering what I am talking about and I don’t know what to call it so just look at the pictures lol

The finished product will be painted the same colour as the columns and the ceiling and nailed in place.

Thanks Owen, love the floor just very nervous about dropping something since we are not actually finished down stairs, trying to be extra careful now but as we all know that never works out. The QSCs favourite speaker out of all the speakers I have listen too so far, don’t think I will be changing them out any time soon if ever.

Amazing work and I'm looking forward to seeing it all complete.

I have two questions for you, one, are you concerned at all with the hard wood being a nasty reflective surface or do you plan to let some form room EQ sort it out? And two, have you picked out the movie that will christen the theater?

Hey thanks for stopping by and the kind words
I will try to answer these questions as best as I can
As per the hardwood that was a must have (happy wife) and we both hate carpet and I realize what that does to the rooms eq makes it a messy situation. If I had a dedicated room I would have carpet for sure but since it’s not it made more sense to make it more appealing. As for dealing with those reflections I have 2 ideas ceiling clouds later on, I know my wife will not like that at all but I will see or build 2 or 4” deep acoustic panels that I can just put on the floor when watching a movie and remove them when finished or have a area rug roll out from behind the screen but who know me yet.

As for eq I don’t know how to run REW so I would need someone to help me out to see what is actually going on in the room and go from there. Hopefully when I am done the RMC1 will be stable and have Dirac installed in it to handle the finishing touches on the sound.

I hope that answered your questions

Except you avoided the movie question!

Fair enough on the hardwood floor decision. I'm sure that Dirac will tame what it can and then if you get into the REW world you can figure out what other options you might have. I use Audyssey for my room corrections, but I'm tempted to go the REW route to see what improvement I could make that Audyssey needs some help with.

Lol didn’t mean to avoid it just forgot

There are so many good ones out there and I have a few in mind for a couple reasons.

Deep Water Horizon - one of the best atmos movies I have heard and it was only bits and pieces and it is a decent movie.

Dark Knight - for the black levels I want to see how the JCV handles them and it’s just an awesome movie overall

The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug - just to heard Smaug’s voice through the QSCs with all the other speakers playing will be very impressive

I could go on and on with what will be played but basically re watch almost every movie lol.

Hey man, if you can make it to our August 10th gtg, I’ll spend some time showing how I arrived at the EQ I did, with using REW and my WiFi mini dsp. I had planned on it last time, but having my laptop at @hd0823 Jeremy’s the day before, it would have erased my settings! So I avoided it. This time Jeremy will have his own laptop and mine will be setup to show through measurements how my room was improved. My MLP is tweaked in. That’s what I shot for, I wanted my MLP to be wicked. I wasn’t into the whole make every seat good. Now Jeremy was a lucky duck how his room EQ’d. I’m not that smart, his room was just very well put together in order to make the bass and sound so good everywhere! I’m sure yours will impress you once tweaked in.

Well I just got 2 LaVoce 21s sent to his house and 2 more very soon so it looks like I will be coming to the GTG but if that changes and I need the subs sooner I will make a trip out earlier and hopefully you could go through it with me at your house. I truly appreciate everything you guys have done for me on my build and if you can help me with REW that would be amazing.

Hey Jared, you can save your settings in miniDSP 2x4 HD and loading them anytime you made any changes to your original settings. I have two house curve. One setting for movies and another for TV.

I don't know if you follow the BEQ filter movies thread https://www.avsforum.com/forum/113-s...ed-movies.html . You should check it out, it has about 700+ BEQ settings for movies that helps restoring some Bluray/4K UHD movies that have had their lower frequencies severely filtered.

Femi,
Is there a way to hook up a computer to a mini dsp, and have the dsp upload it’s settings to the computer? Or is it always the other way around?
I think I knew the other points you made. I think.
I do know going between mine and Jeremy’s dsp the computer wasn’t happy about it. It always results in erased settings.

You can save your setting to your labtop or to a usb thumb drive/usb stick and load your setting to any mini dsp HD.

To save your setting just click on file on the left top of your miniDSP 2x4 HD1 plug-in, select save and select save current configuration, then choose where you want to save your setting and name your file.

To load you setting just click on file on the left top of your miniDSP 2x4 HD1 plug-in, select load and select load configuration to current slot, then choose what you name your file and click open.

Basically it is the same process as saving and loading/opening your file in microsoft word.

Thanks for the explanation. So I should’ve saved Jeremy’s settings in my laptop as well as mine. I guess I didn’t do that.

Quick update I have being putting together the frames to go over the fabric and man I not sure what I Got myself into but I think it has paid off. Got 2 installed, painted and will continue with getting the rest together and installed. Side note I put a piece of fabric on my clamps so I don’t scratch the paint when I Kreg them together.

After all of them are installed I have to go around and fill the nail holes then sand and repaint.

After all the arguing with my wife about putting fabric on the walls she came down tonight and said it looks nice, I almost fell over right in front of her., life is good now lol.

I have a piece of matching wood to go on top of that half wall to finish that up.
