Home Theater of the Month: Creekside Cinema

Kevin Gilman (24Changer) fell in love with movie theaters when he was seven years old. "A friend of the family owned a local theater, and I was allowed to go by myself to see the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve. Since then, I regularly attended the movies, dreaming of having my own personal theater one day."

Find out how Kevin turned his dream into reality—for way less than you might think—in the July 2018 Home Theater of the Month.

Awesome theater and superb construction. Congratulations!

I’ve been lucky enough to experience this theater several times and not only is it visually appealing, but the audio and video performance are fantastic.

Well-deserved recognition!!

done very well for the money! considering this isn't by any stretch a 'budget' build with cheap components. it's nice to see a DIY theater that looks this good and doesn't have 50grand into just building the room.

Displays: Samsung PN64F8500/JVC X35
AVR: Pioneer VSX-1130K, 7.1/5.1.2 audio

Looks fantastic. Is there a specific reason the actual speakers projector and screen weren't mentioned in the article? Particularly the speakers; I've been eyeing DIYSG speakers for a while, and the fact that they're a spectacular-performing DIY solution would have certainly been beneficial to the article's theme.

Very nice room. Classy and a bit different (love the stone work). And the award is well deserved. Cost notwithstanding, that is an incredible theater. But given what you have invested, even more incredible !!

Curious: Did you at least wire for an Atmos add on later?

Actually, those items are mentioned, but not to comment on their performance, which I normally don't do in HToM. Plus, I have never heard the DIY Sound Group speakers, so I wouldn't be able to comment on their performance anyway.

I couldn't resist posting a few pics I took with my phone the last time I was in Kevin's theater. The construction quality is top notch in every respect. Fine details like the fit and finish of the riser steps around the seating, the junction of acoustically transparent panels with the screen and the paintwork are exceptional. And of course those 1099s with the Dayton Ultimax 18" subs and the Volt 8s with the Sony projector round out an incredible performance package. Can't wait to help you with the Atmos upgrade when the time comes.

Thank you to you all for the compliments, thank you Scott for the recognition and to all the AVS'ers that answered question and or posted their efforts so that people like me could accomplish rooms like this. To this day, the room continues to have the aroma & feel like i finished yesterday. We enjoy the room immensely.

Wow, congrats and very well deserved!!

Tim, I think you need to be officially dubbed the AVS photographer. No offense to Scott, but I think your pics are better than the ones on the announcement thread!

I fully expect to return the favor of theater work when you go to do your future Atmos upgrade.

Wow - thanks! But the outstanding subject matter of Kevin's theater made it easy to take what I found to be interesting photos, so all credit to him (and his wife's) hard work!

Nicely done theater. Love the stone work, it's like water rocks without water, definitely goes with having a creek outside.
