Home Theater of the Month: Coldwater Creek Cinema

The Coldwater Creek Cinema is yet another testament to DIY. Owner Jeremy built nearly the entire room himself—with lots of online help from other AVS Forum members.

Home Theater of the Month: Coldwater Creek Cinema

Congratulations Jeremy!
I have had the privilege of being in this theater several times once finished, as well as various times during the construction. The pics don’t do the room justice. When you walk in, it’s a grand space. Quiet, gets pitch black dark, comfortable, well thought out space. The risers are deep and give room to fully recline while you can still move around. Suspended floor throughout that adds to the feel of those mighty V3’s bass, and the qsc speakers just fill the room with crisp clean LOUD sound! Truly my dream of what a home theater really is!
Scott, well done article.

Nice room. That you built that DIY along with a full time job is a testament to your patience, endurance, and, an approving spouse. I'm sure you get lots of enjoyment out of such attractive space!

Thanks guys for all the kind words. This was all possible by asking a million members questions and researching. If I wouldent have stumbled on upon the forum I would have never been able to do this.

Great job Jeremy, your home theater looks absolutely fantastic. Hard to believe that it was not professionally installed and constructed. Kudos to you.

Wow, I usually don't relate to HToM rooms or the dedicated section, but I could really see myself with a "future" room based on your theater. Great room.

One question, with that size screen what are the seating distances from the screen to the first and second rows? I would have to think "IMAX" really does describe the feeling from the front row.

I'm actually doing one this fall or during the winter. Trying to finish my wifes library and changing a few things up in the room. As soon as that's done I'll be hosting one. I know some of the Chicago guys are coming up also.

Yeah it really makes it hard to ever go to the actual theater. The room just sounds so much better. I've went to the commercial theater a few times this year and bought the same movie and it's really a night and day difference.

I agree with you completely. Seeing a movie in a theater like yours bests the commercial experience by a lot. And the popcorn and drinks aren’t 75 bucks a pop. So, you see a home theater is actually a cost saving endeavor!

One thing about mostly doing the build yourself, you'll always know what your contractor is up to and you'll get great rates. What you've done here is very impressive, and for less that what a new car goes for these days.

Yeah the room wasnt most of the cost either it was equipment chairs ect. I would guess I probably had about 8 to 9000 into the room

Nice theater. This thread has me debating doing a build thread. I'm doing an addition to my house and I'm getting very creative on saving money. It's basically going to be material and equipment cost only.

I want to do high end on a low budget, by going pre owned on the equipment. For $2500 I picked up a jvc x790r for the centerpiece.

Nice I either waited for very good deals on most of the equipment and bought some preowned. Alot was bought when the next years model was coming out processors will go up to half of at times.
