Cabernet Court Theatre build - New House downunder

1 Attachment(s)
So the journey to a dedicated home theatre has begun. We are building a new home in 'Cabernet Court' Hamilton in Southwest Victoria.

I have attached some build photos and will update as we progress.

It has been months of planning but now the build is coming along very quickly and I have some decisions to make around design and layout of the theatre room.

I'm going with 150" AT cinemscope screen. (Spandex). This will be built 800mm off the West wall and house LCR and 2 full Marty's.

I will most likely go with a JVC 5900 but need to lock in the best throw distance for brightness on the spandex. Any input would be appreciated.

I will have an AV rack in the rear corner to the left of the entry with access from the hallway.

Working on 9.4.4 but will see if I need the extra 2 subs or not.

2 rows of seats with the back on a 250mm riser.

I need to decide if I want columns or not. If not I need to decide asap on which speakers to go with for surrounds. I'd like to build diysg volt 10s into the walls.

Wish me luck and come along for the ride!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6031ec5b88.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...955066788d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5118ce13f9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b158e4018a.jpgAttachment 2472668

looks like you are starting with some good looking space. Keep us posted. I would like to see a floor plan, interested how you will intigrate the riser with those entrances.

So I have isolation clips and channel with two layers of gyprock and greenglue. 1 layer is 13mm and the other is 10 mm sound check board. The walls are filled with acoustic bats.

I'm trying to work out the best way to finish off the rack and entrance for soundproofing as this will be the weak link.

I need a door on the rack and a door on the. entrance. What would be the better choice out of a custom made soundproof door vs communicating doors? I guess I'm looking for an stc of around 60 to match the walls.

The rack will have a door both sides. It has clips and 2 layers of gyprock on the side wall with one layer on the internal wall and acoustic bats both sides. This will be fairly straight forward to finish off so my main concern is the entrance door.

Looking good. Do you need some spandex? :-)

It's been a very long time between posts. I have done quite a lot of work to the theater and will update accordingly.

First up.

I have these seats which I will use in the theater. I got them from an old theater closing down in Melbourne. I discovered after getting them home they have 'Ansett Airways ' engraved in the base of them. They were probably originally from an Ansett lounge. The irony is that they are now home in Hamilton which was the birthplace of Ansett Airlines. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ff95b7bacb.jpg

Looks like an excellent space - the chairs are very 70s cool I love them!

Fill it with sand they said...can't be too hard...unless the sand is damp! I have had tp spread it out to dry it before it goes in.

I lined the stage with black garbage bags. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...cb4a08dab0.jpg

This is the entrance with the rack inbuilt into the wall on the way in.

I need to work out a way of making it as soundproof as possible.

This is the main 'leak' in the room.

I will put a communicating door with drop seals for the entrance but i havent worked out what to do with the rack closet. I'm thinking a big hanging sandwich door over the back of the closet. I have lined the glass door with seals but there is not much more I can do unless anyone has any good suggestions?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b0c0bcb764.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...62295f4032.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fb77c39b72.jpg

Testing patterns using black carpet tiles. These are going to be a great flooring option as they are black with a little texture and can be replaced easily if damaged or there is any unfortunate spills!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9ff399def2.jpg

So I can only post 1 photo at a time now without signing up for a 'vip' tapatalk account. I guess i could go back to using a browser. I don't really use tapatalk much so it may be a better option anyway.

Stage finished with martys on top and soffit has started.

Ive actually completed a huge amount lately but will update as I get time.
