wiring AC to DC led lights help

There might be other forums for this, but I don't belong to them and some of you guys are wildly knowledgeable to here goes.

I have some under cabinet halogen ac lighting that I want to switch LED strip lighting. AC to transformer to controler to strip is the easy part. There are 3 separate light fixtures controlled by 1 switch. Would I need to put a transformer at each fixture? Would I have to put a controller at each fixture? If so, would there be a way to link the 3 controllers together?

I haven't pulled the switch off the wall yet, so Im unsure exactly how it is wired.

Thanks!

one controller and transformer is usually good for 15 ft of LED strip lighting. Refer to the specifications and instructions of your brand and model. If your LEDs are a two wire design you might be able to use any existing jumper wires xonnecting one lighted cabinet to tne next as jumpers for the LEDs with the right adapters. This problem has a lot of unknowns.

I probably asked my question poorly.

There are currently 3 light fixtures with power going to each one of them. Once I put the transformer in the line, does that step down all 3 or just the one? The led strips would not be connected to each other, except for the AC power running to each one. Would I then need to put a controlled at each separate led strip?

depends if your wiring is currently daisy chained or individual home runs to a power source. If a wire runs from one cabinet to the next if you intercept it before the first cabinet with a transformer everything else will on the same voltage. Is your LED a two wire system or multi-color 4 wire?

Ok. That was sort of what I was thinking. I’ll have to see if they are daisy chained or all sent individually to the switch/power.

The LEDs are rgbw

that would mean 4 wire connections, you won't be able to use any existing 2 wire line voltage wire other than for 120v power connections to a switch. You will probably need a transformer/controller at each cabinet and leave the existing wall switch in place. The best you can hope for is your handheld remote will control all the strips simultaneously. The system should have memory so if you pick a color the wall switch will turn them on and off at that color until you change it.

unless you can fish 4 wire jumpers in the walls, cabinet to cabinet. Or up in crown molding.

That might be a real option. going cabinet to cabinet.
