Backer box construction

When building a backer box for an opening in double 5/8 drywall. Do you double up on the MDF?

Possibly...each to their own... I was sharing an example of @deauxt built of his backer boxes... you can choose to do as many layers as you'd like..I'd recommend 2 layers at least with GG in between.

Yeah triple layered backer boxes are certainly overkill for a double drywall room...completely pointless, actually. Since I did triple drywall in my room, I built all of my backer boxes with three layers plus double GG, like the walls.
