Had some time to make the HTM-12's functional for a listening test. They're not fully finished yet, I need to do some nice edge routing and of course paint them black. Sound quality is absolutely amazing in my small apartment with only the 3 speakers playing. Can't wait to hear this in 5.2.4 in our new house !!

Looks like The Rock was your test movie? Thanks for the reminder, I'll need to add that to my list of "to re-watch when the theatre gets built" movies. And see if there's a BEQ for it while I'm at it.

Nice build, and really glad to hear another person happy with the HTM-12s!

Yes very happy. Currently building the Volt-8 surrounds, and then finish with the cabinets for the in-ceiling speakers that I'm gonna be using not-so-in-ceiling as I'm going to aim them towards MLP. After that it's the dual Devastator V1's and then hopefully some movie watching.

I can buy 4x new Klipsch CDT-3800-C II's for €120 each (new price €300 each here). Would there be a noticeable difference in sound quality compared to the Micca M-8C's ? It's ofc for Atmos.

You're asking a very specific question which is predicated upon a single person having heard each of these speakers - neither of which are what I would call super popular / prevalent - and offer a critical comparison between the two. Since they are Atmos speakers, the most important question to ask is regarding off-axis polar response performance of the speakers, not the price. That being said, I'd favor the Klipsch for its mini directed wave guide than the soft dome of the Micca. But I haven't heard either, let alone see the necessary specification data for off-axis response. Have you considered the RSL R34e?

Thanks for your input.

The Micca also has a pivoting tweeter, so should help with getting more on-axis. I'm going to build them into a box anyway, to try and be 100% on-axis at MLP.

I bought the Micca's already months ago when I had a relative coming over from US to Belgium, cause these are not available in Europe.

We're back with an update. House is finished, we moved in just before New Year's Eve, and I have some time again now to work on the theater.

I put in the floor, (nearly) finished the Volt-8's, and built a test setup to check the speakers, amp, projector etc. Image and sound is amazing already at this moment, very happy with the choices I made so far. Bad news is that the we weren't able to get the old sofa upstairs, so we had to scrap it. Good news is that I'm looking now to order 2 real home theater seats.

Next up is building the extremely minimalistic false wall and the DIY screen. Once I'm happy with the viewing distance, I will fix the Atmos speaker positions.

My plans for the screen also changed.: I will go for a 116" scope screen, instead of 128" because of the height limitations. I feel the 128" is too low on the wall and will feel awkward. To compensate for the reduced viewing angle, I moved the seats closer, which should give the same immersion and viewing experience.

Back wall will also be moved closer to the seats. We decided we wanted more storage space in the attic, and it allows me to position the 2 subs more ideally so I can sit exactly in the center. Subs will most probably be the Devastator 21" HCR.

Update again:

* built the screen last weekend and watched some John Wick 3. Absolutely stunning image !! I'm quite critical but I'm extremely happy with the picture quality of this DIY white-over-black spandex. Unbelievable quality for this money.
* will most probably start on the back-boxes for the Atmos speakers (Micca M8C). I've never heard any Atmos, so I'm really curious to know how this sounds.
* next up is finishing the false wall with 4 panels covered in black spandex.
* also ordered 1 theater seat to try. Will be here at the end of next week probably.

* Started to build the boxes for the 4 atmos speakers.

Thanks, I'm very happy with how it looks. The room itself is quite small compared to others on this forum, but the screen is 116" 2.40:1 so it's a very decent size actually.

**Update**

* Seats have arrived: absolutely love them. Will start with these 2 and possibly order 3 more later on to have a 3-seat front row and a 2-seat 2nd row.
* Made the speaker stands for the LCR, so they are now on ear level behind the AT wall.
* Finishing the atmos boxes and trying out ways to hang them from the sloped ceiling while perfectly aimed at MLP. Looking good so far for only $15 of MDF and some time, instead of expensive ceiling mounts.

Nice work on those mounts, I'm sure that will help keep the overhead soundfield nicely enveloping.

Thanks ! Yes let's hope, I haven't heard these speakers yet, and haven't even heard proper Atmos yet (ever!) so I'm really excited to get them fully finished, calibrated and tested.

**Update**

* Atmos speakers primered but not yet painted black. Couldnt wait on the black paint to arrive so I put them up to test and calibrate.
* Watched Blade Runner 2049 and Knives Out as my first movies. Blade Runner was awesome, sound was incredible. This is even without a proper sub.
* Ordered the 18" driver to start the sub build next week.

**Update**

* Atmos speakers installed and re-calibrated.
* Built a mount for the Epson, as it needed to be positioned very low due to the Atmos speakers blocking the line of sight on any regular mount.
* Cleaned up the wiring a bit, the fabric for the walls arrived so all walls can be made black once I finish the wiring.
* Built some boxes for the lighting and installed them.
* All materials for the first Devastator arrived.

It's an equivalent of milliskin Spandex. Read all about it in the DIY Screen section of the forum. First time I ever tried this and worked out perfectly, both for the screen and for the AT wall (and for the Atmos speakers). I now purchased much cheaper black fabric for the other walls.

Yeah I’ve been reading about miliskin and want to try it out too, trouble is everything is closed at the moment due to the current situation. Where did you get your material from? Did you do 1 layer black 1 layer white? Many thanks

I'm in Europe, so got it from a webshop here (www.yesfabrics.eu). Everything is also closed over here, so I'm trying to find as many things as possible from online shops that still deliver. Even got sheets of MDF delivered this week .

*edit* the material is called "lycra" over here.

* Fabric on the walls is finished, looks very nice, if I may say so myself.
* 4 atmos speakers mounted and calibrated again.
* will start on making the back wall of the room in the next couple of days, to have the theater soundproofed towards the rest of the house.

I'm enjoying quite some movies now and I'm extremely satisfied with how everything turned out.
