Opinions: Dolby Atmos Speaker Placement

Looking for opinions on what people would choose to do in my situation. The room is about 15'x25'. Which speaker arrangement would you do? I have a LCR with 2 subs, and 6 - 8 surround speakers. Is it worth spending the extra money for 2 extra speakers to get 8, when the budget is tight? If so, would you put the extra 2 on the side or the ceiling? Thanks!

2 height speakers let you hear left-vs-right movement overhead. 4 height speakers let you hear left-vs-right AND front-vs-back movement overhead. Big difference.

In the base layer, having 4 surrounds gives you wrap-around envelopment AND side-vs-rear separation in the surround field. So first choice would be option B (7.1.4 layout).

Down the road, if the budget allows, you can add a pair of Wides to fill the gap between the Fronts and Sides for a 9.1.4 layout. Speaking of budget, if you can do 2 subs, that would be very helpful in getting smoother bass (fewer/smaller peaks & dips) AND greater seat to seat consistency.

That's the direction I was leaning. Thanks a lot!

I would do B, as well. However, I would wire for 9.4.6 so you are ready for future expansion!
