Epson 5040ub Projector won't recognize 3D content

Hello, I am trying to view 3D content for the first time on my Epson 5040ub. I am streaming a side by side 3D movie using an Nvidia Shield. The side by side shows up but I cant access any 3D settings to have the projector go to 3D mode (they are all greyed out). Is there a way to force 3D viewing? I played the same movie on my 3D Vizeo and it worked fine.

I just ran into your post while searching for the very same thing.

If I find anything I will get back to you. Just read through the manual and couldnt find a solution.
Works on my shield and my Sony TV but on the Epson I just see the side-by-side image.

Figured it out...

Switch your Nvidia Shield back to 1080 in the shield settings menu (Mine was set to 4k)
Then navigate to your 3d file
once you begin playback switch the epson to 3d in the Signal menu ( at least I had to - it did not auto detect my side by side 3d image )
If you switch before playback you may have some trouble navigating in the forced 3d mode.
it played fine after I did this. Even youtube side by side 3d content worked although not as good as my 3d files.

Good Luck

Epson 5040UB and STR-DN1080 receiver

Hi, Just trying the Epson - the menu for 3D is disabled. The 3D button on the menu says "this button cannot be used". I'm playing 3D content using Kodi on my Amazon Firestick 4K. The projector displays that it's playing in 3D mode and my Epson 3D glasses are paired to the projector but I still see side by side image thru the glasses.

I tried playing same content using Plex on a PS4 and the 3D menu is enabled and allows 3D viewing.
