Also, just spoke to "sales" at Vizio and was told the SB3831-DO was NOT a new SmartCast soundbar.

Stopped at Best Buy and the 38" bar does read SmartCast and GoogleCast on the packaging as shown in the pic by dishdude1 and confirmed by tehquik.

Perhaps this 3.1 bar can be "controlled" by the SmartCast app, but does not have all the latest features (smaller form soundbar, new sub and any other 2016 spec upgrades). Perhaps thats why Vizio support told me it is not a "SmartCast" soundbar (whatever that means)? Although as with most first level support calls the guy didn't inspire confidence when he stated the "D" in the part number "may not" designate the product as a 2016 model

Agree with Anago that it is prudent to wait until Vizio posts all specs and all bars are available for purchase.

Fun stuff!

It sounds like the SB line as been upgraded with Googlecast/Vizio Smartcast and keeps the old design while the SP line is a SlimProfile for the bar and the sub and the one they are marketing because its the brand new design and the flagship series. At least that is what it is looking like to me.

Here is what I am talking about

first paragraph
You wont be able to decode DD+ in the Soundbar, you will need a HTPC, PS3 or Bluray player to convert the signal to LPCM 5.1 which the SB see as regular DD or DTS.

Seriously, I'll give em $5 for gas money!

I'm equally excited for the release of the Crave 360 and Pro speakers. I wonder if they will all be simultaneously released. I was really considering a Sonos setup until I found out about this new Vizio line. I doubt they will truly compete from a sound quality standpoint but the price difference and DTS support more than make up for it AFAIC.

Yea I want the crave 360 and pro also, I'm sure the sound will be pretty damn good too, I have the Sonos sound bar and its annoying having no DTS support and having to use switches to get dd 5.1 otherwise I have a stereo sound bar... and its not looking like they are going to change that anytime soon. Bring on vizio!

I'm contemplating on getting a SB051 for now to help with impatience. I can always exchange it at Best buy since its more than likely that theyll get them first.

Well, just mounted my Vizio M55 and the speakers suck haha. Looks like I will be waiting for these new sound bars. If they do not come out soon I will have to settle with an older pair.

I see samsclub and others showing you can order a lot of the smart cast sound bars now but the 45" model with the slim sub isn't available to order anywhere yet :/ hopefully this means soon?

Its the SP line that has the slim profile not the SB line which is the older fat sub and taller bar with smartcast added on. the SP is the slimmer bar and sub so yeah. Are you seeing the SB or the SP line show up?

On Samsclub website they have 3 smarcast sound bars 2 you can order, the one with the slim sub you can't it yet says out of stock but weirdly all models are SB even the slim sub model not sure if that's a mistake for the new one or what?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but unclear from Vizio's promo material about these sound bars. Using Google Cast, is it possible to cast the sound from the TV to other rooms in the house? I'm thinking of things like sports games - if the sound bar is playing the sound from the TV (connected to just regular cable), can that sound be cast into a Google Cast-enabled speaker in the kitchen, for example? Or does the Cast only work to stream music through the app?

I'm pretty sure it should just be casting music from your phone or tablet etc so you wouldn't be able to cast the audio from what you're watching on cable TV etc

What are the thoughts on the subwoofers anticipated performance? Can a slim sub really pump out enough air pressure to be competitive with an older model like the Vizio S5451w-C2? I always thought with subs, the old car adage "there's no replacement for displacement" would come into play.

Thanks! Is there any wireless speaker system that can do this? Been searching all over and seems to be hardly any clear info about how you can stream live audio from the TV to other rooms. Would have thought it would be possible in this day and age but seems not to be.

I think it should sound really good it claims bass as low as 30hz and in my opinion I like Vizio's other setups but to me the bass has always been a little to muddy/boomy I'm hoping this slim sub will clean that up.

I thought about this exact scenario and in theory I think this is possible with some added tinkering.

I have a HTPC in the living room and DirectTV. I anticipate being able to view DirectTV from the web through Google Chrome. Using Google Chrome, you can "Cast" anything on the browser or computer so you would just "cast" the audio coming out the computer to all your Cast speakers. The problem is I see it having 2 seconds of lag.

The other option is to have a HTPC with Line In audio from receiver to HTPC then setting up your computer to output that same audio to Google Chrome. Again, it will introduce lag, but it's what I thought of
