Will try the Key with the Xbox One X - but I may just send it back and get another ViewHD component as its less than half the price.

No real need to upgrade to the N-950 unless you really want 7.1.2 sound. Not sure its worth that much at this point.
Hey, would you mind sharing your wiring setup?

I have an Apple TV wired into the HDView, then to my LG B7A and the K950.

It works, I get DV and DA.

But, also have a TiVo and use ARC from the LG to the K950 as well and that causes issues. So, curious if you just have one component wired in?

I have an LG C8 with the K950

I have the following direct to the LG:
1. Apple TV (via View HD)
2. Xbox One X (via HD Fury Key)
3. K-950
4. Nintendo Switch

(I had a PS4 Pro - but removed for the Xbox direct to the TV...which was previously connected to the soundbar (K950))

The ViewHD is the hands down the better unit. The HDFury Key caused me issues with both the Xbox and AppleTV that were just irritating. For example - as previously noted - anytime you’d press the Menu button on the ATV4k remote - it’d flip the soundbar back to TV-ARC. (Doesn’t do this with the ViewHD). With the Xbox One X - it worked - Atmos Sound and HDR - however - when setup to allow DV to pass through - the Xbox would tell me that the TV was incapable of HDR10 for Video games (while saying HDR10 was ok for Video). I turn off DV and it HDR worked for all.

One other note - this soundbar certainly kills color from game consoles. There is a marked difference when using ViewHD/direct to TV for the video output vs when connected to this soundbar. RDR2 looks 10x better than it did previously.

I unplugged it before we went out for the evening. When we got back ATMOS was working again.

I have had problems getting Atmos with all my devices on my K950, 4K Blu-ray players (various ones) ATV, FTV! It’s very inconsistent. All my settings are correct. I chalked it up to the bar itself! I’m waiting for something else to come out down the line with e-arc. I like the bar but I think it’s very buggy. I’ve owned It twice. I returned it the first time when it first came out and then a year later I repurchased when it was on sale and cause I didn’t like any of the other Atmos sound bars on the market. Hopefully something else comes out at CES that is immersive as this one and with e-arc.

Completely Agree.

The sound is good with good wattage and speakers but crap HDMI ports. I have learned to switch off ARC on my Display if I want to do Atmos and switch to the appropriate K950 HDMI port before I power on the Atmos source. Getting a good HDMI synch is critical. This is not at all family friendly AV. I'd buy the new N950 which supports DV and Atmos ARC but haven't found a way to dispose/sell the K950.

I just got a vertex for when I upgrade to DV.
I didn’t know the N950 will pass DV and do e-arc? I may keep my K950 and move to another room if I get something else. I wold like to sell I can locally. It would cost to much to ship out I think?

I don't know if the N950 does eARC but it does do Atmos over ARC. Several former K950 owners moved to the N950. ( @william06 and @UnfoldingSquid )

It does not do e-arc and knowing Samsung it probably is doubtful. To me it was a noticeable upgrade. Not without a few issues but to me well worth it

It was well worth it to me too, the rears perform much better and having Atmos over ARC is very convenient. I had my k950 rears set to +2 and the n950 rears are currently set at -4

Sorry, wordy post. Been a long time since I’ve posted!
I just order the viewHD audio extractor to try with this sound bar. Actually ordered 2 of them (great, more wires), one for Apple TV 4K and one for Xbox One X. I have had this K950 for about 2 years now. It’s been finicky since the beginning (wife absolutley hates how it takes multiple remotes to change sources) and I kept hoping it would improve via firmware, but it looks like Samsung is done supporting it with the N950 out now.
If the viewHD doesn’t improve my issue with HDMI dropouts and switching, I think I might sell this bar locally. What have you guys been able to sell if for? I no longer have the box, so I cant ship it. Debating going with the N950 if I find a decent sale, or throwing in the towel and going AVR and something like a Klipsch 5.1.4 setup.
Originally bought this bar for an all Samsung “seamless” setup. KS8000 TV, K950 bar, and Samsung 4K Player (all 2016 models). What a joke as far as seamless. Especially once I decided to add Apple TV and Xbox to it. Using Belkin HDMI 2.1 cables recommended by Apple for Apple TV 4K.
Currently running xbox via HDMI 1 of K950 to ARC of KS8000
Apple TV 4K to HDMI 2 of K950 to HDMI ARC of KS8000
Xfinity Cable box to KS8000 HDMI 1 then it ARC to K950
Nintendo Switch to HDMI 3 of KS8000 (then ARC to K950 which sounds terrible BTW).
I wish Samsung had included 3-4 HDMI In ports on this bar as well.
I hate this bar on so many levels, but man, I love it when its in Atmos mode....

I agree with you on so many levels. When sound is on point it sounds amazing but has silly quirks that just irritate me for something I bought for $950. Does anyone know if the N950 actually is an improvement hardware wise or just adds sound features? How much would a proper-ish Atmos setup run over the cost of a new N950?

A traditional Atmos system even on the cheap will cost you a lot more than the N950 I would think? A lot of variables with speakers and the AVR, I wanna say probably over 2500-3000K for a decent setup?

@william06 Thanks guys for the feedback. I've heard the bass/Sub isn't as strong on the N950 what are your thoughts? I'll probably live with the K950 since the wife isn't too picky when she watches a show and I don't really mind hassling to get Atmos. I've got a 4 year replacement warranty with Geek Squad so if it breaks I'll upgrade to the N950.

Hey Folks,

I just got an AppleTV 4K and I'm having an issue switching the Chroma video settings.

AppleTV 4K (v12.1) - Connected to HDMI1 on soundbar.
Samsung HW-K850 Soundbar (v3117.3) - Connected to TV via ARC
Samsung KS8000 TV (v1231.1)

On the AppleTV when I try changing the video setting from Chroma 4:2:0 to 4:2:2, the soundbar begins to cycle AVR Speaker - HDMI1. The screen goes black then briefly I can see an image, then black again. Finally after 20 seconds the AppleTV times out and reverts back to Chroma 4:2:0.

I've tried several HDMI cables, including two brand new Monoprice Certified Premium cables.

With the AppleTV connected directly to the TV, I can successfully switch from Chroma 4:2:0 to 4:4:4. However, if I enable HDMI UHD Color on the that HDMI port, it only allows me to switch to 4:2:2 (successfully).

Any idea what is going on?
Is there a way to set 4:2:2 via the soundbar?
How come 4:4:4 only works with HDMI UHD Color disabled?

Hi was having trouble with either my ATV or Samsung K950 last night. Picture was cutting out and also was not letting me switch to 4:2:2 from 4:2:0. ATV is connected to soundbar and then ARC to tv. Also HDMI was getting hot on soundbar bar side input from ATV! When I connect ATV straight to tv it works fine. I am getting HDR and Atmos from the ATV thru the soundbar. But not from 4:2:2? I’m using monoprice high speed certified cables! I’ve tested several of them so I can rule some of them out! I have slim types and larger gauge ones. I’m using the slim ones for better fit connection? Also forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between 4:2:0 and 4:2:2? I will post in the ATV thread too. Thanks in advance!

Reading through this thread, I'm intrigued by the TiVo > Xbox One > 950 for continuous ATMOS of sound through cable content. Our primary viewing material is through the TiVo, so the thought of benefiting from ATMOS on the 950 throughout is very appealing. My question is the WAF on this setup. Besides passing audio through, how does the Xbox work in this mix? Would you have to navigate to TV app on Xbox to get to the main TiVo interface? Ideally, I'd want to power up the Xbox and have it be nothing more than a passthrough for TiVo. So, besides audio being Atmos, I'd like my family to not even know it's the in the loop.

For those using Harmony remotes, the last time I owned a 950, I found it's lack of source changing via IR to be troublesome. How does it actually handle switching and what are Harmony users doing to avoid having multiple remotes on their coffee table.

I found that I could never get 4K with 4:2:2 to pass through with this bar. I honestly don’t think its possible. I also have the K950 and KS8000. I just order a viewHD to try and split the Apple TV and see if that improves things.
My current issue with Apple TV 4K and this bar is that if I have Matching HDR and Frame Rate set to on, certain apps have no sound and the picture drops out. Doesn’t affect Netflix or Prime, but it messes up with my kids apps like Nick Jr and Disney. So, I am currently running the Apple TV through the K950 with 4K HDR always on (not preferred) and no switching of frame rate. Very frustrating.
And don’t even get me started on when I’m watching cable TV... bar gets stuck on D.IN and won’t change to AUDIO ARC. Requires me to unplug the bar and the TV to get it to resync.

I guess for movies it really doesn't matter much, according to this article. I will have to do more research on the difference.

Bummer, it is a shame the soundbar doesn't allow complete passthrough.

Which ViewHD did you purchase, can you share a link?

The Samsung User Manual specs say it does [email protected]/50Hz 4:2:0 or @24/25/30 Hz 4:4:4

The HDfury AVR-key runs very hot at all times. This is normal

ViewHD VHD-UHAE2 is what I’m going to try. Ordered 2. One for Xbox one X and Apple TV 4K. I’d actually prefer this to hopefully work so I can have separate picture settings for each console rather than the single setting of the ARC port to the TV.

Awesome, I'd love to hear how it works out for you. I may order one myself.

I think the HDMI inputs on my bar are going bad? My Apple TV cuts out and the HDMI cable connection input on the bar side gets really hot after awhile!
I have a HD Fury Vertex coming that I scored on here from a forum member brand new sealed in a box for a number I couldn’t resist! I’m hoping this solves several issues with the ATV and this bar! ATV direct connected to display. If it don’t work out I’m going to abandon the K950 and get something else and wait till CES and see what other Atmos bars come out? The N950 is way too much money to spend on a sound bar unless it goes on sale and I get it for what I paid for on K950. I’m considering going with a traditional Atmos set up if all else fails!

Sony 55 A9F
Panasonic DP-UB820
Sony UBP-X700
Denon X4500H AVR
Klipsch 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos with Martin Logan 1000W SUB

Maybe - but I do know that I never had luck with the ATV4K and this sound bar. Always had weird issues. The only device of mine that has the least issues was the Xbox One X (and S) - but sometimes it won't detect the bar is Atmos capable.

Moving to the ViewHD device helps address these issues - the only issue is the bar ALWAYS defaults to TV-ARC when turning on. Small price to pay for optimal picture and sound at the same time.

Really want to see some decent competition for Samsung on the Atmos soundbar front. LG isn't quite there yet - Sony never seems to do physical rears and pulls all this 'virtual surround' BS which never sounds right. Samsung products always have serious software issues...

The Nakamichi 9.2 soundbar is getting an atmos for. Ware update in December. Im considering selling my K950 and getting one of those. Nakamichi seems to offer superior support for their devices and with the atmos update the 9.2 soundbar will be 9.2.4. I hope it delivers. Starting in December they will also increase the mfrp by 400 usd on new bars.

Looks totally better - side rears + rears. And DTS-X for $1400? Never heard of this brand before...

Since there doesn’t seem to be any upfiring speakers in this, how is it going to do Atmos?
