I thought maybe it was some type of idle power from the TV sending a data through HDMI, so I switched to optical and the same thing happens. Not the biggest thing in the world, but it is annoying.....
In mysterious way Samsung want it o be like this and nothing you can do. We are many how hate this and next Soundbar gonna be a Sony.

I assumed it was HDMI 2.0b, I thought there was no reason why the soundbar shouldn't work with games at 4K 60hz. I just want to watch HDR Blu rays in HDR with Atmos on my Xbox One X. Should I have gotten the Sony ST5000 instead?

I would rather not spend any extra money. I'm an AV noob so I really don't understand the use of the product you suggested. As I said above, I only want to watch 4K Blu rays with Atmos on the Xbox One X. My TV has two HDMI enhanced ports, one with ARC and one without. I already have 2 HDMI 2.0b cables ready for when the speakers come. Are you saying I need to spend more money in order to achieve what I want? I do not care about movies in 4K 60hz and the games that I play at 4K 60hz 60fps do not support Dolby Atmos anyway.

If you only care about movies then you don't need the hdfury products that I mentioned. The k950 will reproduce the atmos sound if you connect the xbox one x directly to one of its hdmi inputs. The xbox converts audio to dolby atmos for everything your watching or playing on it.

What you will miss out on is 4:2:2 hdr video while playing games because the soundbar cannot handle that video format. You will have degraded image quality. The Hdmi audio extractors that I mentioned allow you to resolve the problem by separating the audio and video signals from the xbox one x so that you can connect the video signal directly to your TV and audio signal directly to the soundbar maximizing the quality of both. You don't have to buy the audio extractor it's optional.

hi all - need help with my combo getting Atmos to the soundbar when playing VUDU on my tv via my tv's smart app.

Vizio M75-E1 television. Only one input, Input 1 (ARC), supports HDMI 2.0a. Does this send the atmos signal to the k950?

When i use the Vizio smart app to connect to VUDU to get my 4k movies, i don't see the blue LED on the k950 to signify atmos.

So shouldn't i just hook up the vizio input 1 ARC to the HDMI ARC on the k950 and I should see blue LED? but its not working

Primary:
2017 Vizio M Series - 75"
Samsung HW-K950 (no ATMOS via ARC)

2nd room - TV Samsung PN64F8500

Sorry no Atmos via ARC on the K950 which is a 2016 model. The new (2018) N950 does Atmos over ARC.

thanks so much.
So the Vizio M series TV does send atmos signal out of its HDMI out ARC but the Samsung k950 does not recieve that signal via its HDMI ARC.
That really sux.
Any cheap workarounds?

No, but you can get DD+ (w/o Atmos) via ARC. Read back a bit, an xbox UHD player with built in Apps connected to HDMI 1 or 2 is probably the cheapest solution at about 200 USD and some here are knowledgeable.

I don't use an xbox rather streamers and a couple AV splitters (HDfury & an Oppo) into my K950 and P65-C1; an expensive kludge .

I have a Caavo hooked up to the k850 and lately everytime I'm in the Caavo menus the sound bar input switches to d in. Is there any way to lock input to one source only?

Try turning ARC off on your TV.

Switching inputs on the TV did the trick.

I'm having an old problem pop up again. If I watch something on Netflix on my Apple TV and then switch to Amazon Prime, I lose audio. I need to toggle the input on the sound bar and then I'm good. It's happened every night this week. It's really annoying.

Unfortunately you can’t, nor with any other tv brand.
It’s a limitation from the sb itself.

Unhappy

Hi there

I need help. I have an issue with this soundbar wich was working well until a couple of days ago.

My installation :
- TV LG OLED 55C6V
- UHD BR player LG UP970

The soundbar is connected to the UP970 via its HDMI audio output.

I first noticed the problem with the Netflix app from the UP970. No sound at all as long as the audio selected is in 5.1, but ok with stereo.
Then I tested some 4K BR and same problem with Atmos tracks : no sound at all (nor blue light on the bar). The DTS-HD or Dolby Digital tracks work fine but same issue with a Dolby True HD track.
I tested with another HDMI cable but didn't work.

I am confused.
Could you help me figure this out ?

Turns out a reset of the soundbar (holding the settings button) solved my problem.
I am relieved.

pulling my hair out trying to get ATMOS to work on the soundbar.
I just bought the roku ultra and hooked it up with the HDMI cable that came with it to the HDMI input 1 on the soundbar.
From soundbar, use the ARC to the TV (vizio M-series).
when i hit info on the tv remote, top banner says HDR10 and 2160. shouldn't it say ATMOS and shouldn't there be blue LED on the k950?
its a 4k movie with atmos from VUDU.

any ideas?

During play with that source it should show the blue light on the soundbar. The TV info won't show it as the Vizio M series doesn't know what ATMOS is.
I don't have a Roku so I can only ask, is there a setting on the Roku for Atmos support?

I never could get Atmos with my Roku Ultra plugged directly into HDMI 1. The problem is the K950 can not accept a HDR 4K signal @ 60Hz only 24 or 30Hz (see the specs). You can try setting you Ultra to HDR 4K 30Hz or use an AV splitter to just route audio to the K950. I use my Oppo to split the AV.

dude thank you so much. i would not have thought that a "display type" setting in roku settings would impact ATMOS.
i had the roku ultra on "auto detect" and it was detecting at "4K HDR at 30Hz HDCP 2.2" but NOT GETTING ATMOS.

So based on your suggestion, i went to "4K 30Hz TV" and ATMOS light popped on yay but how much is my video quality being impaired by not using "4K HDR @ 30Hz"?

All movies are at 23.976 hz 4:2:0 chroma so don’t worry.
For series and tv shows the impact will be invisible except maybe for sports (i said maybe depending on your sensivity).
Well for video games this will be another story....

Does the K850 support Apt X over bluetooth? If so, is there anything I need to do to enable it? I've been trying to find out, but can't seem to find an answer.

I have a similar setup to 2mchpwr except tv is TCL. My soundbar, which I just picked up over the weekend (great deal), is HW-K850. The Roku Ultra automatically detected 4K HDR @ 30Hz, but I went back in and changed it to 4K HDR @ 60 Hz to see what would happen. Only have tried with Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime but it is still working for me and I get Atmos!

I am sure it has already been covered many times in this thread so my apologies but anyone have suggestions for favorite settings with speakers, subwoofer, equalizer, sound effect, etc? Movies and shows sound very good but it seemed off when playing the NFL game yesterday. I expected a much fuller sound coming from this beast compared to the smaller soundbar it replaced (HW-K360). On the NFL game the 360 sounded much more natural, especially the announcers.

Damn I'm loving these. Bought the K950 on Amazon for 800 euros because the package was slightly damaged and let me tell you these are a steal for that price. I just saw Sicario in 4K Blu ray and Atmos is amazing. Any movies that take fully advantage of Atmos? I wanna hear the sound bouncing from the top mostly.

The sound in dts and atmos is really jaw dropping.
My film list for atmos :
- john wick 2
- first man
- mission impossible fallout (waw)
- mad max fury road

Netflix only supports Atmos on a few devices. https://help.netflix.com/en/node/64066

The only program on Amazon with Atmos that I know of is the Jack Ryan series (HDR version). Good luck.

Others on the forum have reported getting Atmos from the X700 Netflix app and Amazon app and yes I’m aware Jack Ryan is the only Atmos show on amazon. I have no luck with this soundbar getting both Atmos and DV simultaneously! I know this bar has no DV pass through and won’t work with E-ARC! I was using a HD Fury Vertex with no luck either. I can only get Atmos from the Vudu app on the X700 and was hoping someone who has both X700 and K950 had and a definitive answer?

Sony 55 A9F
Panasonic DP-UB820
Sony UBP-X700
Denon X4500H AVR
Klipsch 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos with Martin Logan 1000W SUB
