Will Samsung K950 Play Atmos From LG eARC?
I currently have the Samsung K950 soundbar and an LG 55B7 OLED TV, but soon after the purchase, I discovered that I was unable to watch Dolby Vision and listen to Dolby Atmos audio at the same time. If I plugged my source (ATV) into the soundbar and sent the video out of the soundbar ARC to the TV, I would have Atmos, but not Dolby Vision because 1st generation ARC can't pass through Dolby Vision. Alternately, if I plugged my source (ATV) into the LG and sent the audio out of the LG ARC to the soundbar, I would have Dolby Vision, but no Atmos because 1st generation ARC can't pass through Atmos either. The same dynamic applied if I used an ARC-->ARC connection. Anyway, I was able to finally get both Dolby Vision and Atmos at the same time by using an HDFury device. Apologies for this preamble - just setting the background for my question.
I'm strongly considering the purchase of a new LG 55C9 because my wife would like the 55B7 in the living room. The 55C9 includes HDMI 2.1 which in turn, includes eARC, the 2nd generation of ARC. Unlike the 1st generation of ARC, eARC has enough bandwidth and speed to pass through Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. So here's my question: If I plug my ATV into HDMI 1 on the new LG, and then send the audio out from the LG’s eARC to the soundbar HDMI 1, will the soundbar be able to play Dolby Atmos? The TV will definitely be able to show Dolby Vision because the source is plugged directly into it.
I'm really struggling with this one and it would be great if someone smarter than me knew the answer.
