LG Soundbars at CES 2017

With no less than eight new models, the new LG soundbars offer many options to those who decide to eschew a full-blown audio system.

So the question for potential OLED buyers is - will the B7 or C7 with a SJ8 sound bar be a better buy ( have that much better sound), than just getting the E7 with the built in sound bar? Meaning, if the B7 is $3K and the E7 is $4K, and the SJ8 is priced under $1K, then a B7 with sound bar is a better deal. IMO.

I think that most people that are interested in the OLED (those that appreciate its black levels, and can afford it) have a separate sound system for movie watching. So, at least for me, the TV's speakers or a sound bar, are just for watching the nightly news or some SD programing - and not for movie viewing.

We'll see if the B7 actually has the same processing as the higher ones. Otherwise yes, no 3D in any means there's no real reason to get anything but the B7 if you don't care how it looks while off and you have separate sound.

LG says all the OLEDs will have the same picture quality according to Scott's report https://www.avsforum.com/lg-oled-tvs-at-ces-2017/

Will the LG SJ9 be able to connect to wireless speakers for rear channels? Can someone at CES 2017 inquire about this?

I'm also interested in whether or not Yamaha will announce a Musiccast update which will allow wireless rear channels with their receiver lineup.

Thanks in advance,

Phil

The B7 or C7 paired with a decent sound bar and sub are going to sound better than the E7, mostly because there is no wireless sub to pair with it. IME the E7 is an attractive option for wealthy/luxury customers who want a very clean-looking set-up with only one device. Plus, as you mentioned, the picture-in-glass of the E7 looks really slick and helps cement that model as more of an objet d'art for those who value how the TV looks whether it's on or off.

They said that last year also, but it turned out that the B series had different lag time, calibration adjustment options, and perhaps worse motion handling due to a different SoC from the C, E, and G models.

I am also curious about this. And how the LG will handle DTS (either DTS, DTS:MA, or DTS:X). Room I have has smooth side walls and ceiling, but no back wall (its part of a larger room). So if it will reflect sound off the side walls to simulate rears that would be fine. If it requires a back wall like the Yamaha YSP-5600 - it won't work for me without some wireless rears.
