Just got a mail on my pre-order, the UK expected date is now May 22nd, not June 2nd.

Sweet! Hopefully it's the same for the U.S. Had mine pre-ordered from Amazon for about a week or so.

Sounds good. I'll wait until all DTS formats are confirmed before considering placing an order. I don't want to be a guinea pig with this expensive sound bar.

I can't help but worry about the lack of DTS anything on the spec sheet from Sony.
Samsung's offering has a similar issue too.

I'm in the market for an Atmos solution like this for a small ish entertainment room but there's always one key X at the bottom of all the ticks.

Samsung - No DTS support
Sony - No DTS support (yet)
Yamaha - No HDR passthrough
LG - only one HDMI port

I guess we'll know sooner of later given a May release date. Finger crossed.

For some strange reason the SBT-500 isn't available in my region. The others are or imminently will be.

I also noticed that whilst the LG SJ9 does support DTS it doesn't support DTS MA, unless I misread the specs.

Is there an anti-DTS conspiracy?

In Europe the Onkyo is called LS-7200.
There are rumours that Dolby payed the manufacturers for not including DTS.

Excuse m'y english (i'm french)

I really don't understand what is doing Sony. I was considering buying this sound bar to replace my Sony all in one Blu-Ray Home cinema system BDV-IZ1000W but without DTS support just forget it.

I have a collection of 350 Blu-Rays where most of them have a DTS HD or DTS Master Audio tracks so no way for me to put them in the trash.

I don't know or Dolby really pays Sony to prevent them from supporting DTS but if it is true this is really stupid cause you are going to loose many potential customers on a high end sound bar with a price of 1500 $/€.

Hi to all,
I looked at pre-ordering so i contacted Sony support for some clarity on DTS support at a later date.
I was told "In regards to your query, please note that as per the manual (Page 74) the system does not support DTS and DSD"
No mention of a firmware upgrade to change this.

Another system off the list for me.

Don't mark it off the list just yet. Wait until it is released. Speaking to customer service reps and trying to get an accurate answer is like trying to find a snowball on the sun.

Sony "support" (or non-support is probably a better word for it) has NO idea what is going on with future updates.

After looking at the options on paper regarding the 3 new Atmos soundbar offerings namely SJ9, K950 and this one, the Sony (on paper) is looking pretty good.

Particularly because it has 3-4 HDMI ports capable of HDR pass through.

Of course performance is the key factor here as there are a number of reasonably priced HDMI hubs that will do the same to the SJ9 et al.

I have found 2 links where they speak about a DTS firmware update which should occurs before the end of the year.

In one of the two links below they said that the soundbar is not HDR ready and need also a firmware update which will bring also Dolby Vision.

http://postperspective.com/this-audi...rs-at-ces2017/

"It’s not DTS:X-capable yet, but Sony said that will happen by the end of the year"

"It will be Dolby Vision/HDR-capable via a future firmware upgrade"

https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-t...d-to-know/amp/

"A DTS:X update will be added later this year"

But if it doesn't come out for six months or so, then what? Most Blu-ray Disc titles use DTS-HD MA for audio. The idea of having a device incapable of decoding the main format used on BDs seems kind of crazy.

That's why I am more and more convinced that the firmware upgrade will be rolled out. They can't sell their new sound bar which decodes fewer audio format that their previous one (HT-ST9) and which is less expensive.

I am sure it is related with their new partnership with Dolby for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vison. Maybe it is an arrangement to only offer Dolby formats in the first months.

Mater DTS will be added like said in the link above. The guy from digital trends has could not have invented the DTS firmware upgrade himself. He should have been told by a Sony rep.

Otherwise they are stupid because many consumers won't buy this sound bar and for those who will buy it as soon as they will play a blu ray 2K and realize that it does not worked with DTS audio tracks they will return the sound bar to the store

If they bring DTS X support what about DTS Master Audio and DTS High Resolution ?

Does a receiver/sound bar which decodes DTS X automatically decodes older DTS formats ?

When you look at their previous sound bar Ht-ST5000 it decodes all DTS formats such as :

DTS Master Audio
DTS High Resolution
DTS 96/24
DTS matrix, discrete
....

If it has DTS:X it will have all the underlying formats.

I have just ordered mine today at a local store. I should receive it in 3-4 weeks.

He asked to Sony Europe about the DTS upgrade. (I am in France).

Besides the owner of the shop is going to an electronic show this weekend where there will be people from Sony. So he hopes to get an answer with someone from Sony there.

Anyone reckon this could be paired with the Sony SWF-100 sub?

Seems from the manual they use the same wireless connection.

Only problem is not same spec - 100W versus 200W

Reason I ask is the SWF-100 fits perfectly in my media unit (hidden) but the HT-ST5000 sub would need laying on its side to fit.

Wait, the HDR update was talking about the LG bar. They switched over to talking about it when they mentioned that. The sony can already passthrough full 4k HDR video

Forgive me if it's the wrong topic but i'm looking for the most optimal way to connect the ST-5000.

I've ordered the HT-ST5000 along with the KD-49XE9005 and UBP-X800.

Normally i would connect all my devices to the HDMI ports of the TV and use the ARC on the TV to connect to the ARC on the soundbar.

But i'v read that I won't benefit from the best audio capabilities from the soundbar?

So is it better to connect the soundbar via optical to the tv, or connect the bluray and other devices that would benefit from the audio directly to the soundbar?

Delivery should be first week of june...

With the UHD player you need to connect to the sound bar first to get the lossless formats, ARC and optical are not capable of carrying the lossless formats.
