Part of me wants to rationalize these issues as being an offshoot of a small company that is overwhelmed by the complexity of the end user's setups...but I then think of another small company by the name of Oppo that somehow managed to design and build world class DVD/BR/UHD players that put the Sony/Panasonic/Samsungs of the world to shame!

BTW best wishes to you and your wife on her upcoming surgery! Some things are definitely more important than our first world problems!
Thanks, appreciate everything! I believe I too was rationalizing, but indeed its a small company that I believe truly wants to satisfy. And I believe their engineering is good, and sound.

Enjoy!

I feel that. I still have my old pre-DTS:X 7.1 bar in the basement and I'm not quite ready to give it up yet. The new one sounds amazing when it works, but it's so damn touchy. I'm not sure dealing with the day-to-day hassle of the new one is worth it. It's an order of magnitude more bitchy than the old bar was.

Totally agree. It's to the point where the rest of the family can't watch TV when I'm not home. Every time I leave I get at least one text or phone call because they can't get the sound to work. I love the bar when it works, but it's just too much hassle at this point.

Touch wood, same here! Most of my original issues seemed to be due to faulty hardware

I'm sure this has come up before, but I looked back and could not find it. Huge thread afterall.
Anyhow, I got my 7.1 setup (Upgraded to firmware v3.3 from v2.1. Ensured all my settings for Shield TV and XBox One X were as recommended by Nakamichi best-sound page.

Problem I'm having is very low volume back speakers. Even adjusted, can barely here them. Plex. Source is TrueHD / ATMOS and the soundbar indicates such when I hit info button.

Anyone know about this? I thought I read something somewhere in this thread, but I wasn't able to find it.

My 7.1 is working reasonably well still after the latest 3.3 firmware. Some issues that I have noticed:

When watching UHD disks in dolby vision (or HDR) on my bluray player, it will now cut out for a minute/blank screen, almost as if the connection is being lost between the bluray player, soundbar, and TV (C8). Kind of annoying, happens maybe once or two in a movie for a few seconds. Reproduced on different disks.

I had a really strange issue where the soundbar seemed to just.. freeze up. No audio from any source, pressing anything on the remote basically did nothing or had minute+ long delay from being registered. I ended up unplugging it, and it didn't work. Then unplugged the HDMI cable on my fios box and plugged it back in, and things seem to be working again (strange).

Random annoying/strange HDMI CEC issues between my set top box (FiOS ONE 4K mini), TV (LG C8), and bluray player (ubk90). Had these before the 3.3 update, though. I really wish Nakamichi would pattern with say LG for full Magic Remote support (same with FiOS, etc).

Still holding out hope that most of this can be correct in a few firmware versions...

Did a LOT of troubleshooting so here's some updated info:

Xbox One X - The ATMOS Demo BluRay that came with the Nakamichi works perfectly in ATMOS with rear speaker volume perfect.
Streamed demos in through Xbox also working great, so the implementation within the Xbox is on point.

Nvidia Shield - Volume of rear speakers in movies played through Plex varies from virtually non-existent to almost right. All are True HD / ATMOS and identified in Plex as well as soundbar info. Age of movie seems to have no bearing as some older movies sound pretty good and some newer movies (Avengers - 2012) have barely any surround volume.

With everyone's experience here, are there just some really atrocious ATMOS implementations with some digital movie releases?

Thanks for any input.

What blu ray player do you have? I had issues with the Sony x700. Bought a brand new one and had same issues. Bought a panasonic 820 and issues are gone. I think there are some compatability issues with the Sony x700...

Dead sub

Hi everyone. Last night I was watching some tv and when I turned everything on all the sound started coming out of the sub for about a second and then went back to normal...I thought no big deal. But then the sub started cutting in and out. I powered the sub off and unplugged it and when I plugged it back in...nothing. Dead in the water. Went through all the troubleshooting tips on Nakamichi's website. Anyone else had this happen? Is there a fix that doesn't involve having the entire thing replaced? This is already a replacement unit for the first one I bought...

For those of you who had HDMI handshake issues that were corrected by replacing the HDMI cable, what did you use/recommend? I was going to look into these in the next few days as my replacement unit is supposed to arrive early next week...thanks.

Holy cow that's a lot of money to pay for a HDMI cable...I would literally NEVER pay more than 10 bucks for a HDMI cable.

The Belkin's are the ones that come with Apple TV 4k units. I used Monoprice High-Speed cables, Bluerigger High Speed cables and had dropouts, etc. Switched to these and haven't had any issues. I use 3 of them (between Directv and Naka, LG UHD player and Naka, and between Naka and TV (ARC). I got them on an Amazon sale for $25 each....

Interesting...

This soundbar is definitely the most finicky piece of tech I have owned for sure...Did not play nice with the Sony x700 blu ray player I had after the 3.3 firmware update. I had intermittent audio drop outs whenever I watched a 4k blu ray disc.

Bought a Panasonic ub820 and it works fine...in the end the panny is definitely the better player, but it cost about 5x as much...

Angry PLEX on NVIDA Shield playback issues

7.1.4 SSE, NVIDIA Shield

Has anyone experienced a several second delay when pausing and then resuming a video on Plex? The video starts right away, but the audio doesn't kick in for as much as 4-5 seconds.Waiting on a response from support at the moment, but curious if anyone else experienced this.

Also had a separate issue of certain videos completely freezing up the sound bar for several minutes before it becomes responsive again. This was with a movie with DTS:X audio. After pausing and resuming this particular movie, the sound bar becomes completely unresponsive. Typically the LED scrolling text is stuck until it "unsticks" itself after a few minutes. It appears to only occur with certain audio codecs.

Anyone come across either of these issues? Still within my 30-day return window.

My Sony x700 had no issues going straight to my tv either. It was also fine going to the Naka before the dolby vision/dolby atmos firmware update. But after the firmware update I got audio dropouts with the Sony x700 going to the Naka. Thought my player might have been going bad so I bought a brand new x700 and had the same exact issue. Took it back and got the Panasonic ub820 and no more audio drop outs...So something in the firmware upgrade made caused issues with the Sony x700...

I have the same issue my daughter will say dad there is no sound usually i just power it off and back on . My main issue is when switching my xbox 1x which is running arc and switching to hdmi2 on the soundbar which i have my shield connected to on the soundbar and i have no sound . Ill have to either hit hdmi3 quick than back to hdmi 2 or just power the sound bar off and on. This last update has been the worst and ive owned the 7.2 and 9.2 since the launch. Im also sick of switching the dsp to neutral x and dolby surround and making sure native is off etc depending onwhat im watching. i just want to pickup the remote for the volume at this point instead off making sure this and that is off and trying to get the audio to come on..Im wanting to do a separate receiver and speakers at this point maybe tax season.

PC video cards are much trickier vs standardized game consoles and streaming boxes. Just a tad off on your settings can confuse any soundbars.

Was checking out Oppo and they don't seem to sell BluRay players anymore.
Where can I get one?

Nvidia Shield - Volume of rear speakers in movies played through Plex varies from virtually non-existent to almost right. All are True HD / ATMOS and identified in Plex as well as soundbar info. Age of movie seems to have no bearing as some older movies sound pretty good and some newer movies (Avengers - 2012) have barely any surround volume.

With everyone's experience here, are there just some really atrocious ATMOS implementations with some digital movie releases?

Thanks for any input.
It all depends on how the movie is encoded. The fact that the demo disc works most likely means that it is content specific.
Did you try streaming like Stranger things, 1st episode of Season 3 has some really good surround sound.

Still no luck with Apple TV 4K to Naka.
My only recommendation is to try this cable, yes, it is worth $35 (was 29.99 when I bought it), all my issues were gone
