Like, if it was compressed audio, why would they output it as multi-channel LPCM and not just use Bitstream to handle the compressed audio? To my knowledge, high quality, multi-channel audio takes very little bandwidth.

I hope I don't seem argumentative (sometimes it can come across that way through the keyboard), I'm just confused as to why Apple is suggesting the opposite of what seems to be otherwise common knowledge, from somewhere...

Hi ! I'm very interested by this soundbar, but I'm affraid with all the issues everybody describes.
I would like to connect my Apple TV 4k and my PS4 to the n950 soundbar, and the soundbar to my LG OLED C7. Is this configuration secure ? Or is this configuration subject to issues ? Is it possible to switch on/off the ATV + soundbar + TV only with the ATV remote ?
Thanks!!

ATV 4K sends Atmos as Dolby PCM/MAT.

See page 12:
https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technolo...me-theater.pdf

The K950 and N950 know how to generate Atmos audio from that.

Some devices don’t pass through PCM/MAT.

This came up for some of us that tried to send Atmos audio through our Oppo 203 Hdmi input to our K950. TrueHD and DD+ Atmos from our Nvidia Shields, Xboxes, and HTPCs worked. But PCM/MAT from the ATV, Xbox, and HTPC did not, and had to go directly to the sound bar.

Does that mean that it streams compressed audio but then doesn't further compress it with Bitstream? Bitstream isn't an option on my ATV 4K.
I don’t know what they’re playing at. I suppose it’s possible if you had local content on the ATV that it wouldn’t be compressed, but all streaming services use compressed audio. Maybe ask around in ATV thread?

What's the best way to connect this soundbar to a PS4 Pro? Optical or just use the HDMI that's connected to the TV?

Usually once you have it off all the way it does seem to recover it. You can try unplugging the units. Hopefully the N950 is an improvement, but once in a blue moon I have to unplug the soundbar from the wall for 10 seconds or so if it won't accept Atmos.
What is the difference between these switches, I ordered the older version, should i return and get the new one?

Fair enough, thanks for your thoughts. I'm just going to go with lossy Atmos is distributed to ATV 4K streaming movies from Apple, and that it uses uncompressed LPCM to deliver that audio to our AVRs/soundbars for maximum compatibility with all set ups. I appreciate your insight and will definitely check out the ATV owner's thread for more information.

I'll try one last time to get my TV to recognize the DD+ signal from the ATV 4K so that I can take advantage of ARC to free up a port on the N950. Failing a successful DD+ link between the two devices, I'll direct-connect ATV 4K to the soundbar again and accept it for now.

All this because I was stoked about having a free port on the N950 Too good to be true—d'oh!

Just because the TV and the soundbar support DD+ over ARC doesn't mean the ATV does, I'd say another question for the ATV thread.

So,
was really looking at n950.

Here's the problem:
Wifey really does not want any rear surround speakers on floor!
I really only see the n950 rears, that also have a upfiring speaker, mounted on stands behind seated position.

So, not sure what to do?

She'll let me have in-ceiling rears or I can have speakers mounted on side wall or ceiling but not in-ceiling.
Options?

On either side of the seating area can work.

How far are the side walls?

Can't.
It's a great room and the sofa is a L-shaped looking at TV with a cabinet/buffet type counter riding along one entire wall on one side. So, definitely, can't put on sides.

Technically, side walls are about 14' apart.

I think images rotated. Ignore current tv position. We are having a entertainment unit built along the back wall, and then the L shape sofa will be rotated and aimed at back wall.
A wireless sub-woofer will be placed at front right corner.
going with soundbar obviously. tv has to go over fireplace. Another WAF.

I have a similar setup to what you're asking about.... I have my ATV4K connected to the N950 and the N950 connected to an LG OLED B6. It works great with no issues! I get Atmos sound and Dolby Vision from the apps that support it. The ATV4K remote will also control the volume on the N950. When I put the ATV4K to sleep it shuts down the N950 and the TV and will also wake up both when the ATV4K is turned back on.

I don't have any experience with the PS4 though but I have a UHD Blu-ray player connected to the N950 as well which works with no issues.

Hope that helps.

I can't speak for the sony (Although I've read atmos effect isn't great due to the lack of physical overhead drivers) but my parents own the sk10y and I have to say the samsung is far better if only for the fact that it's a .4 setup instead of just a .2.

In terms of raw sound quality I don't really like the SK10y. The vocals always sound so muddy and boomy despite increasing the centre channel level in settings to stop them being drowned out in action scenes.

I love my n950 for sound quality. At least for what it is anyway.

If you go back one page and read, you will have your answer

Also every professional review I have read stated that the N950 is the best Atmos soundbar they ever tested.

Currently I have the KEF LS50W and JL Audio E110 Sub.

Should I spend money and get 2 surrounds + 2 Atmos modules + 1 Center + 1 AVR to complete the 5.1.2 setup?
Or spend $1600 on the entire Samsung N950? Which one you guys think will yield better ATmos effect

Thank you for your answer ! Did you update your firmware with the last version ?
Is somebody able to give me more details about the issue of automatic shut down after 5 minutes of inactivity: Is this issue still present with the last firmware update ?
How does this issue work exactly ? I mean, the soundbar shut down after 5 minutes without sound ? Or 5 minutes without image ? For exemple, if I'm watching photos on my apple TV, the soundbar will shut down automatically after 5 minutes or not ?

I've receveid mine this morning, no problem so far, but i haven't connected the soundbar to the wifi atm, so no firmware upgrade.
I just have a question. When a source is Atmos or DTS-X, the soundbar show it but not when the source is DTS 5.1 ... How to no know if the output is 5.1 ? Thank you.

Hello, i played several games this week, shadow of tomb raider and assassins creed odyssey with this n950, i noticed that the sound is not evenly seperated, the right side seems to hollow, and my further test shows that the rear speaker is not in same level, the easiest way is to summon ikaros the eagle in odyssey and it screechs bigger from left rear channel and this explained the hollow happening at right side. Anyone experience same problem? And how to set the level manually between left and right? This is silly as the only option is set level for both simultaneously. Sorry for my english.

Negative. I have to switch inputs using the N950 remote in my setup (UHD player audio directly connected to soundbar/video going directly to the TV). The only N950 options I have available are HDMI, WiFi & BT sound settings within the Q9FN Sound menu. It's possible I haven't discovered a way to do it yet with the TV remote...I've only had the set for a few days and have been busy trying out a bunch of things.

Can I hook up just the Samsung N950 sound bar to an AVR, then hook up my own Sub and rear surround speakers to the AVR?

Basically I just want to use the soundbar as the front L+R and Center speakers , and my own Sub and Rear surrounds .

Will this work? Anyone tried this setup?

And @lukather101 I have almost no issues with new firmware, it doesn’t yank me out of Sources to TV Plus anymore. I do have issues with Vudu not loading well on UHD and sound skipping intermtantly but that’s the only app with problems.
