Sk10y

Stumbled across this tonight...

http://www.hifi-journal.de/news/2-la...meridian-audio

I hope it isn’t 1199 euro. That’s $1,500 USD, that would be absurd.

Oil of OLED 03-12-2018 11:01 PM

No DTS, the Meridian contribution is a setting and not room correction, rears that need to be wired to the same hub... What's not to love

I suppose it’s better than the Samsung variant with tons of speakers and no Dolby vision or the new Sony with fake Atmos. They upped all the wattages on all the speakers and it has separate volume controls for only the upfiring so that’s a nice feature. Sadly they all have drawbacks which frankly to me is inexcusable for a $1000+ item. All I want is a bar that can do some good Atmos and supports all the audio and will pass HDR/DV, but that seems to be a no go. Although CNET shows this supporting DTS which is weird.

New_to_4K 03-13-2018 05:14 PM

The main drawback is lack of dtsx.

I know, I can’t believe they STILL haven’t added it.

New24K 03-13-2018 05:28 PM

Why would it have DTS Digital Surround - and not DTS:X...

Because these manufacturers hate us

Zoland2020 03-13-2018 06:35 PM

I would have love to get this soundbar but the high price plus only standard DTS decoding (no DTS:X nor DTS-HD MA) is kinda holding me back a little, I'm also not sure if this one will have HDR10 and/or DV (even though I don't have a DV capable TV) passthrough. I think the only thing really new is 2 HDMI inputs (compared to 1 on the SJ9) and rear speaker support, blah!
I guess Samsung wins this time, Nakamichi despite only having DTS:X (no Dolby Atmos) blows this out of the water as well.

Yes it has DV/HDR. Their info says Dolby audio, Dolby Atmos, DTS digital surround and PCM.

Oddly CNET, which has all the specs, which I’m not sure are correct.

They list: DTS Digital Surround, DTS:X, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD

If CNET is correct, the LG bar will be the ultimate Atmos bar. I’m hoping CNET knows more than we do.

We'll see about that, if it'll really have all of them, I might really get it after all.

I just ordered the LG Sk10Y from bestbuy as well. Should be ready for in store pickup by this upcoming sunday so I'll let you guys know what I find out.

soggyminimuffin 04-04-2018 01:54 PM

The manual is out for the sk10y soundbar on lg soundbar and no mention is made of DTS HD MA or DTS:X.

absolutpat 04-05-2018 03:37 AM

the rear speakers are also a "No-GO". they shared a receiver for both of the speakers (from there the wire goes to the rear speakers).
Also need DTS: X and DV pass trough.
Lets hope that the Samsung HW-N950 has Atmos (ARC HDMI) and DV pass trough Support, then the LG SK10Y is way behind.

SJ9 Has DV pass through, so this one is likely to have. Samsung do not support DV, so unlikely to have th pass through.

Per this article, the models that don't come with ATMOS will come with DTS Virtual:X. It's not DTS:X, but close if you are looking for that feature.

Also, why do you say the rears are a "No Go"? Just because they have a receiver?

Oil of OLED 04-05-2018 01:13 PM

Samsung is not going to support DV. I wager it won't support DD+ over ARC either. If you want everything in a soundbar w/ surrounds, the new Sony is literally your only option

grodd 04-05-2018 01:37 PM

Very curious about this soundbar. Will likely sell my SJ9 and upgrade when I have the extra cash.

Exactly.. not really practical. The receiver should be implemented in the rears each. Maby you have a door between rear right and rear left or something.

- HT-ZF9 lack of upfiring speaker (only virtual) and it is 7.1.2 system.
- HT-5000 lack of rear surround speakers.
Understand me right, those two are nice sets.
Lets hope the 7.1.4 (HW-N950) system would be more effectful than a virtual one. 7.1.2 from sony.
But i need DV and ARC Atmos (LG C7)
Fingers crossed.

Oil of OLED 04-05-2018 03:14 PM

Atmos is a fun feature on a soundbar, but it's not as important as core sound quality, the ability to add surrounds, or avoiding compatibility headaches. I have owned both the ST5000 and the K950. In my experience, the ST5000 sounded much better and my only gripe with it was the lack of surrounds. If I was in the market for a soundbar I would be all over the Z9F

Wireless isn’t wireless though because you still need power. Would you rather plug in the receiver and run a short speaker wire or run 2 extension cords to the “wireless speakers?”

absolutpat 04-05-2018 03:22 PM

@Oil of OLED . Thanks for your input!
@3Dhereicome . Yes, shure. Still need power cord x2. But this fits my needs better.

Oil of OLED 04-09-2018 11:24 AM

Are you using the surround speakers? Have you tried an Atmos demo? How is the SQ with and without Atmos?

This still annoys me that LG didn’t make them compatible with the SJ9. But I’d rather spend $499 on the SJ9 than wait for the SK10 and pay double that plus the speakers.
