Vizio Announces Three Dolby Atmos Soundbar Systems Including 5.1.4

I am in NYC and about to visit Vizio. In addition to the new smart TVs, new from the company are three Dolby Atmos Soundbar systems including a 46" 5.1.4 system. More info and (if available) demo impressions coming shortly.

Here's a video from the demo I attended:

Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming!
If Vizio adds support for 4K HDR passthrough and DTS:X (including DTS-HD Master Audio) too, they will hands down blow LG and Sony out of the water.

CNET seems to think that these will not include support for DTS:X - https://www.cnet.com/news/vizios-201...e-atmos-train/

That's unfortunate, but I assume Vizio's track record on the price:quality ratio will still make these worth some serious consideration.

Good stuff. I am excited to see a 5.1.4 soundbar that delivers the K950's performance for an appropriate price

cchen326 04-10-2018 01:29 PM

Seems like the 5.1.4 will have rear speakers too, but am I reading right that its 1 hdmi in?

AVS Commenter 04-10-2018 02:29 PM

regular sound bar has DTS Virtual:X

3Dhereicome 04-10-2018 04:18 PM

5.1.4? Damn you Vizio!!! They have CES for a reason!!

taichi4 04-10-2018 07:14 PM

Very interested to see if Vizio has upped their soundbar game in light of sophisticated competition. After all, Vizio was pretty much the pioneer in rear speaker soundbars.

Please include info on drivers, Mark.

I'll work to get a review unit. Here's a video of the demo:

Thanks for the video. I only heard the guy mention HDMI in and out 2.0. Did he mention or did you see how many HDMI in the biggest atmos bar?

SuperWario 04-14-2018 02:08 PM

My question is since the rear speakers each have 2 speakers built into each unit (front firing and up firing) will I need to run additional speaker wire to them since the channels are doubled? I’m assuming so.

3Dhereicome 04-14-2018 04:20 PM

Impressive bar. Disappointed in Vizio for waiting so long to announce. Why would you let all your competitions announce bars and then months later announce these? Even a release saying something was in the works would have held my interest for a few months. But now I have something and I’m not shelling out more money for this.

Oil of OLED 04-15-2018 06:08 PM

Yep, I would have waited for the Vizio 5.1.4 if they'd announced it a month ago. It is exactly what I wanted — a cheaper K950 clone without crippled ARC support. It was fun to put together my own system instead, but I wouldn't have minded the 1K+ savings

Exactly. Some day I’ll make up a system but I would have enjoyed their setup I’m sure. They make good products at reasonable prices.

Hi Mark, any news on getting review units?

sahil0909 04-18-2018 05:33 AM

hey, how are you?
if i may ask, what were your first impressions with the bars?
and how did the 5.1.4 compare to the 5.1.2?
lastly, how did the 5.1.4 compare to the samsung k950?

thanks

DaveFi 04-18-2018 04:14 PM

Hopefully DV passthrough as their TVs support it. This would go well with my P65-E1.

@Noydcom - Any updates on release dates on the Atmos soundbar lineup?

Still later this summer. All-in-one sound bar is coming soon.

suresh31 05-06-2018 03:30 PM

Hopefully they sell these at Costco.

Most likely will

ilpostini2 05-16-2018 06:34 AM

any idea as to pricing?

Vizio Announces Three Dolby Atmos Soundbar Systems Including 5.1.4

I think I may hold off on getting a Soundbar until the Atmos ones come out.
@Noydcom do you know if the HDMI on the Atmos ones will support full 4K passthrough and all HDR formats passthrough? That’s one qualifying point that would be big for me now that I have a 4K HDR tv on the way! Also how many HDMI inputs?

EDIT: I watched the video again and he did say full 4K HDR including Dolby Vision pass through. I’d imagine it has at least 3 if not 4 HDMI inputs based on prior years bars having 3 or 4.

Now, what will these cost!?

This is the dilemma I am in right now. Build my own or wait to see how much I can save going with the Vizio 5.1.4. I like the Vizio for the wireless subs/rears.

Vizio's site has been updated with their dolby atmos soundbar information - prices TBD.
I think I will also be waiting on these Vizio soundbars, as the 5.1.4 system sounds EXACTLY what I need.

I don't think the rears are wireless.
That said, I'm stoked for these and cannot wait for them to hit the market. Anyone have any ideas about the price or release date? Hope it's around the $700 mark else I would just go for an SJ9.

theike 05-31-2018 02:28 PM

Sorry, meant to imply that the sub is wireless and the rears connect to it.

Figuring their top line 5.1 bar is $500....

$600-$700 would be reasonable.

DaveFi 06-01-2018 08:29 AM

If the rears connect to the sub then it probably won't work for me. I'm looking for a completely wireless solution.

That said I'd love to get a price on this.
