I'm very curious about this sound bar as well as the MusicCast Bar 40 which has no sub included. Does anyone have any more details about them?

This sound bar has my attention, it looks good on paper. I'll see what the reviewers have to say

I'm hoping this one comes to North America. It's so far only on the UK Yamaha website. It's nice in that I can use any sub I want cause it has a sub pre out.

Where do you see the sub out? I can't see in any of the pictures or official spec list.

Yeah it’s right on the spec sheet under “input/output”.

Yes, I see it now, but I'm not sure they mean a physical out to a sub. I think they mean the wireless sub protocol. This 40 model is most likely the same unit as MusicCast BAR 400 that comes with a sub as a set.

I think the new MusicCast Bar 400 and 40 replace the YAS-207 and 107/108 respectively. The latter of which has a subwoofer pre-out. So I’d assume the “subwoofer out” in the specs of the MusicCast Bar 40 means a physical sub pre-out.

Completely forgot to check the owners manual. You are correct, model 40 has sub out, but model 400 actually is missing it. Here are screenshots form owners manuals for both.

I didn't even think to check the manual. LOL Yeah it makes sense that the Bar 400 does not have a sub out cause a wireless sub is included. The Bar 40 would be for those who either don't want a sub or want to use one of their own. My question is if one uses their own sub with the Bar 40 how do we set the crossover and whatnot?

Crossover - just use the sub's built in controls?

Yamaha's app usually only allows to control the output level for subwoofer, but there is nothing else. Additionally soundbar has "Sound modes", like: Music, TV, Movie, Sport, Game. There is not much else.

I think I will skip this model, as it can't decode any HD audio streams. DTS:X is pretty useless to me. I wish this could decode more. Might wait for Vizio's 5.1.4 bar.

Yeah but it seems not too many sound bars decode many HD audio formats. The only ones I can think of are the Sony ones and they seems to often get mixed reviews from users. I have had a couple of Sony sound bars in years past and they were decent. But once I got an real 5.1 setup with a real subwoofer (SVS PB1000) it was a night and day difference. The Sony sound bar just didn't measure up.

Yeah, I wish I'd have room for a proper setup. At the moment I have an old Yamaha SRT-1000 with an Emotiva S12 sub. I was hoping I can replace the SRT-1000 with the MusicCast 40 and get HDMI and maybe more decoding features, but it seems to not be a huge upgrade. Have to keep waiting for something else.

Yeah I just have a 2.1 setup right now with Yamaha V481 AVR, SVS PB1000 and Fluance Signature bookshelf speakers. Perhaps I'll just stick with that for now. Although I'm considering Polk Signature towers to replace the Fluance.

I've been anxiously waiting for Yamaha to have released this item. After a couple of attempts I was able to get into a live chat with one of the agents from the Yamaha website. It appears that this is not going to release in September. I was told early October release and it will be available either through Yamaha directly, Amazon, and Best Buy. Like I said, anxious to give this a listen and hope this is "the goods".

I have one... I played a DTS Master HD soundtrack through it.
I'm interested as to how it plays a bitstreamed lossless audio track from a Blu-ray disc.
The sound is great, with a subwoofer that offers punch and certainly seems to cross over a lot lower than the likes of the YSP2700.
I have a MusicCast 50 as a wireless rear speaker too, took a while to find out where you could set the distances / levels, but it was hiding in plain sight within the MusicCast app, so that's pretty sweet.

Anyone been able to compare this to the YAS 706? They seem comparable:

706 has smaller tweeters 3/4", bigger mid woofers 3", more watts on the bar (200), but a smaller 5.5" and weaker 75W sub

The 400 has bigger tweeters 1", smaller mids 1.75", less watts on bar (100), but a bigger sub 6.5" and more watts 100W

Both are Music Cast capable. I don't plan on adding more speakers so just looking for the one that puts out better sound.

Looking at the specs, it seems the 400 is the same as the YAS-207 (but for the musiccast/wifi).

Is that true? I was about to buy the 207 but if this is the same thing, I may check it out instead.

THANKS

Very similar specs but with different styling and networking on-board... and you can add WiFi rear speakers if you need.

When will the 40 be available? I only see it listed on Yamaha's European website. I've already got a huge sub that I want to continue to use and not have to buy the 400 (which includes a sub)

Where can we find the one that does not come with a sub?

I don't think the 400 is sold without a sub. It does have a sub connection if you want to use your own.

I believe he has asked for the 40, not the 400.
The 40 is a bar only, while the 400 comes with a wireless subwoofer.
Re: when will the 40 be available, sorry, no idea.

In this review of the Music cast 400, the reviewer states that the sound bar doesn't turn on when the TV is turned on. Is this a common problem for sound bars? Or could this be the reviewers TV? Should sound bars all turn on when the TV is turned on?

If the soundbar is connected to TV using HDMI ARC and the soundbar supports CEC, it should turn on automatically when the tv is powering on.

looking forward to the 40...i have an svs sb2000 which i'd like to try with it
(using svs sb2000 with my kefs ls50 wireless).

i have the yammie yas 207 which isn't great for music (but still is fab bang for buck overall)
(bass is a bit flabby and not tight for music)
....i often turn off the dts-x and/or when using it turn off clear voice...too tinny with both on.

my ideal soundbar for both movies/music med sized room:
-have great sound like supposedly new samsung n950 has
- but also the calibration software and great mesh/IOS of the sonos beam....
-and keep it under 1k
