Samsung HW Q70R vs Sony HTZ9F

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted here but this forum helped me a ton in selecting my last TV so I knew this would be a good spot for info.

My last Sony soundbar finally bit the bullet so I’m looking to upgrade. I’ve always sort of been a Sony snob but I’ve been looking heavily at the Samsung bars lately. The Q70R has taken a big drop in price lately so now it’s a lot cheaper than the Sony.

Has anyone compared these units side by side or have strong issues with either? Anything I buy will be a huge upgrade to what I had prior lol.

I compared the sound of both in-store but not side by side, for what that's worth.

Initially, I bought the JBL Bar 3.1 and kept it for 1 day. To me, the sound was somewhat muddy and vocals sounded like someone had a hand in front of their mouth. So off I went again, and once again listened to a bunch of bars in store. Ended up taking home the Q70 based on the sound first, and nice sale price second. In our small living room it sounds pretty good, and dialogue is pretty dang clear. Not perfect, but this is a soundbar with tiny speakers in an open space. Subwoofer is sufficient unless you're looking for earth-shaking bass.

**Edit: Add to this I am not a Samsung fan, and actually was hoping that another brand would fulfill my audio needs for this particular space hence the JBL purchase/return. I'm just not into the whole Samsung eco-system or any of them for that matter.

Appreciate the response, that’s what I was hoping to hear. I’m in the same boat as you were. I was actually hoping another brand would steer me away, I’m usually a Sony man lol. I’m heavily leaning towards the Q70R but now I see myself glancing at the Q80R as well as the price is only a few hundred more dollars.
