Samsung Releases 2020 Soundbars

Samsung has just announced the release of its 2020 Soundbar lineup, the most expansive selection of Soundbar is the company is ever offered.

Full press release:

New audio products, including the 2020 CES Best of Innovation award-winning Q800T, feature immersive sound technology perfect for any home entertainment set-up

SEOUL, Korea – May 21, 2020 – Samsung Electronics Co. today announced an innovative new series of soundbars – all designed to deliver immersive, captivating sound quality that will enhance the home theater experience. The new Q, T and S Soundbar Series will be released nationwide throughout the Spring, beginning this month.

The Flagship Q, Lifestyle S, and T Series soundbars seamlessly integrate with Samsung’s wide-ranging TV lineup, with premium design to suit the needs of any consumer’s home environment.

“We’re thrilled to unveil our widest range of soundbars ever – a set of immersive home audio options that will appeal to first-time consumers and audiophiles alike,” said Jim Kiczek, Vice President of Audio Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “As people look to recreate the theater experience at home, we now offer a soundbar for virtually every need, with performance and innovative features that are truly game changers.”

The Q Series, our flagship soundbar lineup for 2020, leads our trio of soundbar audio offerings and includes the Q800T, which won a 2020 CES Best of Innovation Award. The Q series includes Samsung’s signature Q-Symphony technology – which combines the soundbar’s dynamic Object Tracking Sound with the TV’s top speakers to produce a fully immersive listening experience in any living room.

The Q series also includes Samsung’s proprietary Acoustic Beam Technology, which takes TV audio and mixes it to surround the listener with a panoramic soundscape – creating sound that aligns with the action on screen. Through this technology, Samsung’s engineers have been able to incorporate some of the most advanced acoustic designs into wide-range tweeters that can reach 800hz. These technologies come together to make the listener feel like they’re right in the middle of the action.

The Q800T and Q70T feature upward-firing speakers that support both Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X technology – resulting in three-dimensional audio that flows all around the listener. The Q800T and Q70T also include HDMI eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), which enables users to listen to uncompressed high-quality audio with eARC compatible TVs. And both soundbars can expand from their built-in speaker channel configuration to a 5.1.2-channel system with the addition of a wireless speaker kit.

The T Series – the successor to the groundbreaking R Series soundbars – introduces several new models in the entry-to-mid range lineup: the T650, T550, and the T450. The T650 includes 3.1 channel surround sound, anchored by a dedicated center channel speaker that helps project audio content crisply and clearly. Plus, both the T650 and T550 are HDMI-enabled and feature DTS Virtual:X, which emulates a spatial surround sound system without the need for additional speakers.

Finally, the S Series soundbar lineup marks the debut of Samsung’s new soundbar lifestyle design philosophy. Designed to bring your walls to life, the S series is coated with premium textiles from Kvadrat – a global design textile company. The S60T – another CES Innovation Awards Honoree – comes with a wide-range tweeter attached to the horn-shaped speaker. The result is a rich sound that fills every corner of your room. The S60T also features Alexa voice control, so users can easily listen to their favorite music services, like Amazon Music, Spotify, Tunein, and iHeart Radio.

All Samsung soundbars are tuned at the Samsung Audio Lab in Valencia, California.

So looks like there will be no release of the Q950T this year.

Interesting, Q70T going from an 8" subwoofer (Q70R) to a 6.5" subwoofer. Seems to be downgraded, similar to the TV models.

Edit: Q60R had a 6.5" subwoofer.

Well, as someone in an apartment looking for a new soundbar, I don't mind too much.

Maybe they made is smaller so that the soundbar Tetris would work better. I always love the crazy packaging for them: long and thin and big box at one end.

Unhappy No HDMI 2.1?

Let me get this straight, it still won't pass through Dolby Vision because Samsung doesn't support Dolby Vision?

Very strange that they didn't include those in the announcement yesterday, but it looks like info is starting to trickle out about the q900 and the q950: https://hdguru.com/samsung-reveals-2...-availability/

From what I can tell, with respect to the q950t, it looks like there are 2 extra speakers in the 950 (hence 9.1.4 vs. 7.1.4 in the Q90r), it will be more compact, it does the q symphony thing (which is good if you have the appropriate samsung tv to pair it with), and it's set up for eARC right out of the box (so no need to update the firmware like you need to do with the q90r). We'll see what they say as more info becomes available.

I am interested in the q60t since I am discovering the limits of my LG soundbar, but I cannot overstate how absolutely confusing it is that Samsung names their soundbars with the same names as their Tvs for me. I know in most cases they have the HW prefix, but that doesn't help 75% of my google searches. My local Best Buy has a q60t in stock but I want to see how they perform in reviews since ideally this would be the last soundbar I buy until I move out of an apartment.

The 2019 Q-series soundbars can passthrough Dolby Vision (and even the 2018 HW-N950 does with a firmware update).

I get that the Q800T and the Q70T are both 3.1.2 bars because they don't have side speakers, as opposed to the Q80R which had side-firing speakers and was a 5.1.2 bar. But does that mean that the newer ones drop the audio which would normally be directed to those side speakers if you don't buy the optional rears? I read that was an issue with the Q70R, where it just wouldn't play 2 channels of a 5.1 audio stream rather than mixing them together. Seems like that's a significant shortcoming.

Rtings review for the HW-Q60T is up. Seems to be a slight downgrade from the HW-Q60R (6.8 vs 7.3 mixed usage score). The subwoofer looks identical to last year, but the bar is about 5" shorter now.
https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/samsung/hw-q60t
Quote:
The Samsung HW-Q60T is a decent 5.1 channel soundbar that has a great, sturdy build. While its bass-heavy sound profile lacks thump and rumble, you can easily tweak it using its graphic EQ. Its EQ presets are a new addition to Samsung's soundbar lineup too and while we don't have a test for it, the Game Pro mode is marketed to better enhance your gameplay. This soundbar also uses Samsung's Acoustic Beam to create a surround experience by using phantom up-firing speakers located on the bar itself. However, it doesn't result in a very accurate or clear reproduction of surround objects in the soundstage. Unlike many other Samsung soundbars, there's also no companion app on this year's model and it doesn't support Atmos content either.
https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/tool...q60t/870/12968
Quote:
Although the Samsung HW-Q60T is the newer model of the Samsung HW-Q60R, the older model still slightly outperforms the 2020 model. The Samsung HW-Q60R is better for dialogue thanks to its center channel performance, and its surround channel is slightly less bass-heavy. In contrast, the Samsung HW-Q60T offers a graphic EQ plus presets like Pro Game mode, which is nice when you want to adjust your audio to better suit your gameplay. However, unlike other Samsung soundbars including the HW-Q60R, the HW-Q60T lacks a companion app.
The HW-Q70T seems to have the same subwoofer as the Q60T this year (6.5" instead of the 8" on the HW-Q70R), so I would also expect that to have the same poorer low-end frequency response (~49Hz instead of 28Hz).

Just had the q800t soundbar delivered.

2 days in and very impressed with soundbar. I also just received the 75q800t 8k tv and the soundbar integrates with it seamlessly with QSymphony. The soundbar expands the soundstage by using the 6 speakers on the tv to add quite a bit. Using just the soundbar is great but once tv speakers are utilized, the sound is excellent.
Wow can this setup deliver some thump and excellent surround and overhead effects. I have tested on multiple 4K DVDs and 4K digital movies. Avengers Endgame was amazing with bullets zipping overhead, explosions all around and still able to clearly hear the dialog. Mad Max Fury Road was simply OMG, I had to turn down because it was so aggressive and I feared neighbors would complain.
Let me know if you have any questions. So far a huge winner.

Did you get the "rear speakers" with your soundbar?
I'm thinking of either going with this one or the Q80R

I have not gotten the rear speakers yet. I chose the q800t soundbar to match 75q800t tv which enables the QSymphony and it works really nice, both in harmony together.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the q70t and the q800t? The only thing I can find from the Samsung website specs appears to be that the q800t is a bit heavier and the sub on the q800t is more squared off according to the listed specs but no noticeable difference in the sub on the pictures.

Are there just better drivers in the q800t? Thanks to anyone that has more info.

Samsung Thailand has the Q950T up:
https://translate.google.com/transla...ar-hw-q950t%2F

Not sure how I feel about the fabric wrapped design of the bar. I like the Q90R's thicc, metal design better I think.

Some Chinese guys already got Q950T.

For example: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/6777265468
The OP has both Q90R and Q950T and OP's first impression: Q950T has better subwoofer and rear speakers

======

I don't like the new design.... my cats could easily destroy the fabric cover

My thoughts as well when I saw that it's fabric covered. My cats are going to destroy this thing...

They should have wrapped it in a full-body aluminum grill like the Q90R.
