Seventh Son 3D Blu-ray

Despite the mixed reviews I blind pre-ordered the 3D Blu-ray from amazon.ca. (I'm a sucker for medieval stories and monsters.) Unfortunately it got cancelled and is no longer available on amazon.ca and amazon.com.

Feel free to comment or review the movie, 3D, and availability of the 3D Blu-ray.

I think I'll pre-order this from amazon.fr. All regions and English DTS-HD 7.1.

Audio : Allemand (DTS 5.1), Anglais (DTS-HD 5.1), Anglais (DTS-HD 7.1), Italien (DTS 5.1), Français (DTS 5.1), Hindi (DTS 5.1), Espagnol (DTS 5.1)
Région : Toutes les regions
Nombre de disques : 1
Studio : Universal Pictures
Date de sortie du DVD : 28 avril 2015

Unfortunately, it seems this will not be released on 3D disc in North America.

According to Box Office Mojo this movie received 15.7% gross revenue from domestic sales. It ranks 171 in domestic sales among 3D movies. I'd guess they do not expect the 3D Blu-ray to sell in North America.

It would be nice if they had a Disk On Demand service that would burn a 3D Dual-Layer Blu-ray for markets with low demand that could be ordered through the studio or Amazon. Especially if the disks for the larger markets are not region free.

Perhaps they could put a coupon in the 2D Blu-ray for a reduced cost on the Disk On Demand 3D for those that want 2D+3D. Or they could let you pick any of 3D, 4K, 2D, DVD, and digital copy when ordering Disk On Demand. If there are enough pre-orders they could do a one time stamped disk run to reduce cost.

The 3D version of this Blu-ray title is available in nine (9) different countries, including Canada (no date determined yet).
In France, on April 28 ... so no sweat @ all. ...The world is all ours.

3D

There is a very big niche market for limited 3D BluRay movies here in the US , you can see it when Best Buy has any 3D exclusive that sells out during pre-sale..... or in less than a week.

The lazy Distributors in the US have not attempted to take advantage of this like other country's have for some unknown reason.
Many other country's sell limited 3D lenticular & steelbook versions that are sold out during pre-sale at very high prices.

If a big US company would just put out the effort, the demand & money is there to be made.

If it was not for Best Buy & on rare occasions Target , I would buy all my 3D movies from other country's that make the effort to reach out to 3D Movie fans.

So sadly...... it looks like once again ,
Seventh Son .... which has some nice 3D scenes throughout the movie..... will only be sold in foreign markets.

Maybe Universal Studios are starting to follow Disney Studios' own footsteps? ...Regarding 3D Blu-ray here in North America.

Here is the DVD and Blu-ray press release from Universal. No mention of 3D.

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...300056799.html

There is an e-mail and phone number for the V.P. of Publicity at the bottom of the press release.

I got the Amazon cancel notice a day before the press release.

Is this worth the import, not just for the 3d, but for the movie itself?

I saw this in 3D in the theater with my wife. I think its more of a rental than an own IMHO. There were some nice 3D moments, but a pretty mediocre film. Walking out we felt entertained, but neither of us felt like it warranted multiple viewings.

Would have been a rental for sure for me.

$40 from YesAsia or $55 from eBay is a big nono for a movie that got 13% on Rottentomatoes.

Rental (including Red Box) is quite dead in Canada. 3D streaming is not available outside the US.

$30 shipped from amazon.fr. About the price of two movie tickets.

My understanding of Rottentomatoes scoring is that if all critics rated a movie 6/10 the score would be 0%. Thus 13% of critics gave this movie a score of 7/10 or higher. The average score is 3.8/10 from critics and 5.8/10 from the audience. (Based on Rottentomatoes and Wikipedia.)

Given that I am a fan of the genre and 3D, I think it is worth watching once even if I can't rent it.

Took a chance on the 3D import. Thought it would be a winner, what with Jeff Bridges involved. It's kind of a Lord of the Rings derivation.

I agree that the film is mediocre. Lots of plot holes. Pretty good CGI. Had to turn on the English subtitles, as this is one of those mixes where the actors tend to mumble their lines, and they're drowned out even further by background music and foley.

From what I understand, this is a "2.5D" conversion. There were some moments when it almost looked like something was going to leap off the screen, but never quite made it. Depth is pretty good though.

Ordered it too! Thanks for the link quick reference.

Decided to catch up on all the latest 3D title releases now that I'm home from two months of traveling and shooting my own 3D.

Just ordered 4 other 3D titles from Amazon.UK too. Nice the exchange rates have relaxed a bit.

Looks like some more coming in June.

I'm also catching up on 2D only titles with the Red Box. Can't see buying any of those as they will all be on Netflix by the time I want to rewatch if at all.

Finally got time to watch this: Le Septieme Fils

http://www.amazon.fr/Septi%C3%A8me-C...rds=3d+Blu+ray

It was slow getting here, landing only last week.

We really enjoyed it, but then I like fantasy stories like this and never concern myself over what other critics say. The sound rack was well done in 7.1 DTS English, but the disk was Region B. Not sure what the cost is from the Amazon Canada for Region A but I paid $27.66 including tax and shipping.

I bought the disk from amazon.fr also. I would have paid about the same from amazon.ca had they not had to cancel my preorder due to unavailability.

I watched the first two chapters on my computer using ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre which is set to region A. It did not complain about a region B disk.

Now that the 3D Blu of this is available in several countries, any particular pros/cons importing from one country vs. another, other than price/shipping? i.e. differences in the disks themselves? I'm good for any region version.
I searched Amazon U.K. but seems it's not released in the U.K. either, as all listings there were imports from other countries as well. FWIW, I'd like to pair this import with The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet 3D, if that makes a difference.

Maybe it is an all regions disk. I just figured it was B since the box art was all in French language. So, I played it in the region B startup mode. Thanks for the correction.

The amazon.fr disk I got came with a lenticular 3D image on the slipcover. Amazon.fr does not include a 2D disk. The details on the stores' sites look similar although badpandashop is showing 101 minutes (typo?) instead of 102.

You can preorder The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet 3D Blu-ray from amazon.fr or amazon.de (both are Region B).

Had to write Universal Pictures a feedback note about my discontent for them not releasing a Seventh Son 3D Blu-ray.
Quote:
Universal Pictures
Feedback from a U.S. Consumer:

Universal has missed an opportunity for making "The Seventh Son" a successful 3D Blu-ray U.S. release.

After viewing the Hong Kong 3D version, I've found the 3D fundamental for visual enjoyment.

"The Seventh Son 3D" conversion, by Prime Focus, is the most impressive and intense 3D-conversion from a region-A Blu-ray 3D media disc I've experienced to date.

The proficient Blu-ray 3D format provided a very pleasant surprise, and evidence of a missed opportunity for Universal Pictures.

A United States presentation would have provided a formidable 3D home-media experience.

The 3D disc is a prime-example of Hollywood's 3D-conversion being done right!
Strong, powerful, and comfortably pleasant. Totally relevant environmental 3D cinema artistry!
Universal's response:
Quote:
Thank you for contacting us. Our goal is to provide the highest standard in product quality and customer care, and we value input from our customers.

Your comments regarding 3D Blu-ray will be forwarded to the appropriate department.

We hope you will enjoy future Universal releases.

Sincerely,

Universal's response:

Was this via e-mail/web or did you use regular e-mail?

My experience indicates that ALL electronic contact methods simply get ignored.
If you used the US Postal Service and typed out a letter, then you've done the best you can.
